I think it is about the ship Serenity as well. The lyric "She'll fly true" is what Zoe says at the end of Serenity. There are other Firefly/Serenity references.
It is for both Firefly and Battlestar Galactica. Zoe's line is definitely recognizable and refers to Serenity. It can also be about Laura Roslin's fight with cancer, Starbuck and her special destiny, the Galactica itself, and/or Starbuck's Viper.
The same can be said of "In the Black" being representative of Inara and/or William Adama (both left their families behind due to career paths).

This is BSG? I guess I always thought it was written for Serenity. I haven't seen much BSG, so it's hard for me to say.
