  • Blimey i loved this!!! i used to tape it and just listen to the audio, thought i was really clever, very very touching drama..thanks for posting it

  • I loved this too. I was about 10 at the time. I've never forgotten it but whenever I mention it to friends the same age as me, they never seem to remember it. So glad to see it on here after all these years.

  • Sadly, Brian Hall, who played Patsy's stepfarher (and Terry the chef in FAWLTY TOWERS) is no longer with us.

  • Patsy Bligh (?) Remember she kept wetting the bed...

  • I also remember this, I must have been 11 at the time. Very well done show, must have been as I still remember it all these years later.

  • aw brilliant! I loved that programme.

  • This all makes me feel very, very old... :-( But yeah, it certainly did have an impact on me when I was eleven...

  • I remember this because of Nicola Cowper. A few years later I went to watch Live From The Palladium and who should be sitting next to me...Nicola Cowper. She was more appealing than Jimmy Tarbuck!

  • oh man, On and off I've been looking for footage of that programme for years. No one I speak to remembers it, but it spoke to me so much when i watched it. Very emotional seeing it again!

Bob - Like gillyby, I'm 38, and I'd also be very interested in seeing the whole series again.

  • What did Mrs Broadley say? Was it "Hello, Patsy! I've missed you!" ?

  • Just wonderful to see a few clips of this again and to hear the theme music. It's almost 30 years since I first saw this and it's scary how well I remember the theme tune. This prog must have made a real impression on me. They just don't make kids tv like this any more and sadly probably never will.

  • Would love to see the whole series again. Funny how something can touch you and stay with you forever, I used to watch this when I was little, I'm 38 now. Thank You.

  • Hi Gilly, send me a message on youtube with your email address and I'll send you an invite to a download area where you can grab the full 6 episodes of the series. Same goes for anyone else reading this. Bob.

  • @bexhillbob any more of this on youtube yet?

  • The theme tune is by The Pentangle - awesome english electric folk band from the late 60s/early 70s. check 'em out!

  • I loved this series as a child and it would be great to get hold of it on dvd. I recently wrote to Bernard Ashley, asking why the series has not been repeated on tv. He said that the subject matter was too gritty for todays ultra pc and overprotective world. I'm a primary school teacher and I think there are so many poignant issues raised in this book, brought so meaningfully to life in the BBc production. All 8 - 12 year olds should see it!

  • episodes on the way

  • I remember watching this wonderful programme, been looking for this for ages couldn't remember the name. Absolute quality children's programme.

    xx

  • i was totally absorbed in the book and series when i ws a kid

  • Hi Romdut

I have no idea who composed the theme tune. The director of the show auditioned actors and actresses and my agent put me up for the part of Jenny. Because the serial was different, none of us knew if people were going to like it. Thank you for your kind comments.

  • You're welcome. We had a lot of fun making it!

  • Hi Lindsey, hope you are well. Do you possibly know who composed the theme tunes ?

How did you get involved with the series?

I was 11 when it was broadcast and it has stayed with me because it was so different. I even felt sympathey for Eddie in the last episode when he realises he is acting like his father thanks to kennys observations.

  • @romdut - just seen this comment. the theme tune is by the english electric folk band The Pentangle - i think it's from a later album - i'll have a look through the vinyl and see if i can find it. used to love this show too.

  • Thanks eugenemachineuk, if you find it on one of your vinyls I'd love to know what it's called, cheers mate you're a star!!

  • Are you still in acting Lindsey? I studied drama for a few years in the early 90s but never really got anywhere.

  • In response to the previous comments the cast list to this superb show are as follows : Nicola Cowper - Patsy Bligh, Kevin Taffurelli - Kenny Grainger, Brian Hall - Eddie Green, Catherine Chase - Sylvia Green, Patsy Rowlands - Mrs Green, Brian Peck - Joe, Steve Hodson - Pete, Lindsey Walker - Jenny, Bob Mason - Bob, Shirley Dixon - Ruth and Kathleen Heath as Mrs Broadley. This was the best, Lindsey if you read this thanks for your involvment, i have a dvd copy and watch it lots.

  • my mate said he played kenny in this, if you have the whole series can you see if someone called adrian took over this role? as i know the first kevin was played by a boy named kevin thanks

  • Hi there. Nobody took over his role as I was in the show too. Did he stay in acting? Lindsey

  • I'd forgotten about this excellent series. Wonderful theme tune.

  • I loved this as a kid, never thoght i would see this agein!! :-)

  • OK, I'll put some more clips up in a few days. I have the whole series.

  • Cheers for posting, I wouldn't have had a clue how to do this.

My favourite bit is where Patsy's having a dream about the theatre and her step father is doing the slow hand clap. For some strange reason when I see the clip I think of the Singing Detective, haven't a clue why.

  • @bexhillbob Hey! I CANT BELIEVE you have this!! Gilly - same goes for me!! Im 37 and LOVED this to bits - read the book over and over too - it really touched me back then and has stayed with me ever since! I would LOVE to see the series! where's the download?!!

    THANKS!!! :)

  • i havent see this for years lol have u got any more if so plzzzzz put some on thanks
