I've heard some people talking shit about this song saying it's "simple"... There's 8 distinct instruments I hear in this song... 3 guitars, drums, tambourine, two rattles and a hermonica. And gallons of reverb. ALL HAIL THE GROUPIES!
Paula's Pandoras are listed in the similar to this sidebar. She would've loved that because she sang this song with her all-girl band...I think it was at a Los Angeles dive called Al's Bar. Unfortunately Paula didn't live to see the debut of Youtube. Now much of her music is on Youtube too.
Primitive - The Groupies [New York, New York] - 1966 - "VERY GOOD raw Garage-Rock vocals, hooks." - Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From The First Psychedelic Era (Disc 3)-1998.
I search a track by the The Groupies, cant remember the name used in Dj Shadow's Painkiller (Kill The Pain Mix) which lyrics contains : "..my radioman is my number one high" . Thanks
Although I prefer this original to the cramps version, had it not been for lux and ivy, many of us would never have heard of these weirdo 60s no-hit wonders.
So you gotta give 'em credit of opening up this particular can of worms.
@bigczech7 I'll give this groupe credit for originating the song,.. but must say that I find that The Cramps did a much better version of it. Their version has much more texture and atmosphere musicaly and the vocal performance is much more dramatic too.
@Skulldini Well I can’t deny that. I totally love the cramps, that’s why all these originals that they paid tribute to, keep showing up on my recommended section. I saw the Cramps in Detroit, one of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
@bigczech7 Absolutely! Thing was, when they'd cover a song they didn't just duplicated it ( like most others do ),.. but they'd give it their own distinctive flavor,.. crampsify it, so to speak.
@dancing0being I found that they had a very cool and distinctive musical style and were often quite inventive, clever and funny too. Can't please 'em all though. Hell, nothing is enjoyed by everybody all of the time I guess.

Hey ho,hello,brings me back in my,waauw it`s still my time.Thanks for being here.Oh,what a feeling.The rebel`s always there,was always there,will always be there.......
primitive tab. look at smokestack lightnin by howling wolf. i cant help but think this riff was borrowed. the timing is a bit different. also the cramps covered this and theres tabs for it. just so you know, this song fuckin ripppppppssss it.
That's because, they did take it from Smokestack Lightning lol.
And yeah, whichever way you look at it, Howlin' Wolf, the Groupies, the Cramps... this riff can do no wrong. This song can do no wrong! My personal favourite version is the Cramps, just because Lux sounds insane on it.
YOu can hear it on their myspace page. go to myspace and add /theoriginalgroupies after the dot com . It looks like you can download it, but I couldn't get it to work. Check my channel for two more Groupies videos (Little Baby and Meet Me in the Bottom)
Awesome !

Cramps made a dull song and just an inferior copy of this. Can't find nothing creative.
I also never liked Cramps. Monotonous and boring band. Late 70s-early 80s there were many fantastic and high energy bands with tremendous power.
My opinion.

Critics said the same.
My father said when i was small about the 80s- "My daughter, never mess with U2, Cure, Smiths Holy Triad". I just expanded and improved his list.

I like most of all the "Skeletons-Primitive" song (different song, same title). It's fantastic for me but hard to find.
Cramps?? No, not my taste.

I don't own any Groupies, sorry I can't help.
The Cramps are brilliant - one of the greatest rock'n'roll bands.
MmeLEnfer 1 year ago
@MmeLEnfer
No, the 80s band Skeletons have a song named Primitive. Only title the same. My father had recorded it in a cassette tape from a radio station.
Cramps is a good band but i find them not very attractive. I don't like many 80s bands too. I just said my preference. If you like them...
dancing0being 1 year ago
@dancing0being That's cool. They're actually a 70s band though, formed between 72 and 75.
^That sounds cool
MmeLEnfer 1 year ago
@dancing0being Well The Cramps dont belong to any decade, 80's or otherwise. They span thirty years,.. they're post-punk though ( formed in 1976 ).
