Well look, since this is D&B, im gonna talk about the UK rave scene from about '89 to '94/95, from where D&B evolved. If you had been there you would understand the difference between 'raves' nowadays and the 'real' rave scene.

You have to understand that most of the raves were illegal and after '94/95, they clamped down on illegal raves which pretty much killed the spirit of the scene. Promoters were forced to use cheesy commercial venues, play it by the books,

and the rave scene pretty much became club nights.

The difference is 100% freedom + good drugs + large venues (indoor/outdoor) + purely underground music + 90% good vibes (10% morning comedown) + unity + affinity = Variables you will not come across again in your lifetime, unless you move to a non-globalised third world country who are just coming into their own underground musical unity movement. Im open minded, nothing wrong with modern clubbing/raving, but the point and truth still remains,the original ravescene was a special period in dance and music history, it died when they clamped down on it and everything became commercial. Don't let that detach from 'raves' of today, but its like Woodstock, you was either fortunate to be there or most unfortunate not to. Won't happen again
