I think your using KDE because I'm using gnome. Anyways, I was doing a little exploring and saw Wicd Network Manager. Because I'm not familier with any linux operating system let alone backtrack. Thing is, I looked at the networks, and heres what I see.

@rrrrrrrr212 the check poison feature is not always accurate. The only way to check would be to open wireshark.

@Kalatiso it doesn't have to be email accounts, it is whatever is on the other end. I have heard of the PIN requests thing....I have multiple accounts at 2 different large banks and I just use my userid and password...no PIN-requests. Who said anything about banks by the way?

@mugenfan5 You have to be connected to the access point. This is only sniffing traffic on the network that you are on. As long as someone else on the same network types in login information, then this will work yes as long as the ARP poisoning is successful.

I did it the first time, but on my computer (where the router is) when I tried to log in into my youtube account it said "blablabla... unsecured lalala... Get me out of here! (button)" - I changed the etter.conf as u said. After that it didnt detect my mom's facebook login/pass at all. When I restarted the session the program sometimes closes at choosing wlan0. If it doesnt close then at finding host it either closes or freezes. Any ideas?

Hm, Arp poisioning not working, at all? 0/8 successful. I know for sure atleast 2 of the machines on my personal LAN have firewall disabled, and no anti-virus. (DUe to recent installs of windows) 2 running Win 7 64bit, all others on Vista 32bit. Not sure what to do? Great tutorial Btw ^_^

@4Alpha7Kilo Hey there. The operating system does not matter, its the router that matters. Today, there are a lot of routers that prevent ARP poisoning. It just depends on the router. ettercap is an old program which has not been supported or updated in like...5 years!

@MsDjMAC Hello, many have been reporting that ettercap has not been working properly. It may be a 64bit issue. I have a 64bit system but I run backtrack on 32bit and ettercap works fine. Sometimes it freezes. It seems to be more stable with backtrack 4. There is an ettercap alternative. you may want to research ssl strip. I may do a video for it later.

I've actually tried this method and works fine..quick que.. my ettercap always lags at the first time I ran it, I actually need re-open the tool to make it work, I've already edited the etter.conf file but this is the little hiccup.. and bro, is there a possibility that I can actually managed to this without prompting the user for the certificate issue?? @aronsystem which version of Backtrack are you using? There is a console version of ettercap that you can try to use. There is also an alternative solution to ettercap as well. I think I have posted about it in my forum.

@1990shahid Backtrack 5 is Ubuntu Linux. Backtrack linux just has many programs which can be very useful. You can put these programs on a different distro of Linux if you want. Backtrack is designed for security testing.

Hey about the NOT secured Wireless Networks....is there any way to "crack" or somehow get my router password? my home WLAN is not secured and since the ISP guys were noobs and somehow changed my routers password or something .. so now Im unable to login into my router to secure my WLAN and as you said it can ruin my life ... and I dont want this to happen lol

@esojware I assume you are using the chk poison plugin. Often times it lies to you. I have had it tell me that it does not poison when it really did. Often times you cannot fix this problem. If it really is not poisoning, you will be able to tell by using the program wireshark which is another topic.

ARP poisoning may work or may not work. It depends on the router and the settings.

@weshakeandbake Wheew man did you pick a difficult question! LOL. By using VMware alone, that can determine how Backtrack functions. I have had programs not work at all with VMware, and if I boot from a live DVD or USB, it works perfectly. Do you have an instant messenger ?
