  • Thumbs up if UKRetroGameAddict brought you here

  • I can't think of Intellivision without thinking of Plimpton. Seeing the commercials back then, he made the console seem even more sophisticated and intelligent. Best spokesman Mattel could have found.

  • "I found Intellivision more realistic"...as the Right fielder throws out the runner at second going from first. That happens everyday....

  • he said at the beginning: "i'll try almost anything once.." lmao don't bend over in jail

  • My aunt and uncle never had kids... but, they bought an Intellivision game system for their cottage up north... each season, we would go to the cottage.... each season, I got to play the Intellivision system... that was 1983... I love my aunt and uncle... I wish they had kids of their own.... they would have been great parents.

  • Intellivision was awsome except the controllers were ass lol

  • These commercials make me realize I grew up in the Dark Ages. :)

  • I could deal with the Intel Controllers. The real problem was that you couldn't buy replacements (that I know of). Basketball, Football and Baseball were real serious with me and my friends. It was great how you could "lead" receivers of passes on football and basketball. The computer man would intuitively go to the ball. Sicc

  • @Earthfart, I like Intellivision's controller better. The stiff Colecovision knob is hard to move around.

  • @intellaricovision ur doing it wrong

  • great commercial, there really was no comparison in terms of graphics

  • I want George Plimpton to follow me everywhere and do side by side comparisons of shit.

  • LMAO

  • NuggetPumpkin: He died in 2003.

  • I could hardly tell the difference between the Intellivision games and the real sports.

  • Intellivision=16 bit, believe it or not.

  • I still have my Intellvision, and I still play it from time to time. It was awesome gaming back in the early 80s when I was a kid. Colecovision was by far my fave and I also still have it and play it from time to time.

I have the PS2 Intellvision game, they should redo all those games for the new consoles.

  • I think they will on the Nintendo Wii's Shop Channel. They released games from systems such as NeoGeo, Turbografx 16, and Commodore 64. :)

  • I got that intelliviosion game on the ps2 also I got it for 50 cents

  • The intellivision had a 16-bit CPU , but the graphics were 4-bit , giving it a 16 color palette.

also it was a quite slow 16-biter since the CPU operated around 894.8KHz

while the Atari's 8-bit CPU ran at about 1.19MHz

  • @digiprez77 It's 10 bits, not 16.

  • "There really is no substitute for real football or baseball like a 2 Bit video game!"

    Or a 2-bit whore.

  • yeah, I agree with the guy in the commercial. There really is no substitute for real football or baseball like a 2 Bit video game!

  • I prefer the Intellivision and its controller, and they don't break down easly like the Atari joystick. And it has plenty of classic games. A wounderful system.. ;)

    (That's why i have 8 systems.)

  • History repeats itself again and again. Sounds just like Eurogamer: "In my opinion, the 360 plays and looks better than the PS3." blah blah blah.

  • thats really funny because

    intellivison=shitty controller

    atari= good controller

intellivision= not a lot of classic game

atari= a classic library of game and a classic consol

  • WRONG . . . Intellivision had a great controller. Atari's controller was very limited.

  • ima go buy those games at the store now for my intellivision and the atari ones and compare em...

  • My family had an Intellivision, and I'd also go to a friends to play Atari. I liked the Intellivision controller better because it also had the number pad. The 2 systems were awesome though.

  • I have Intellivision Lives for the Gamecube. It was the only thing at Gamestop I could afford. It is better than the Atari. My cousins friend had a seizure from playing the Atari.

  • I just got this console a few days ago.

  • My father worked at Mattel Toys for 25 years as a toy designer. Back in the early 80's some employees who had children got to take home toys for their kids as "Test Toys".

He use to brong home all sorts of things for for my brother and I.

I remember having Intelevision, He-man and Hot Wheels and other stuff before they were out on store shevles.

  • intellivision football game was so fucking cool!!!!

  • The Intellivision Football looks just like the Atari RealSports Football...

  • The Plimpton commercials "inspired" Atari to create the RealSports games. Atari owners can thank Intellivision for forcing Atari to improve their sports games!

  • That's a bit brutal to Atari.

  • Lol ,Sega and nintendo of the 80's

  • lol i cant believe u tards argue about atari

  • libel?

  • hell ya Intellivision rules. but all i see out there is Atari crap

  • Fuck you, shithead! Go play Asteroids, Missile Command, Pitfall, etc. Hell, look at the damned controllers. The controllers are even better than Intellivision's.

  • Plimpton is right, Intellivision kicks Ataris ass!

  • No, it is vice-versa. Intellivision sucks. Atari 2600 rules.

  • Ever play Sea Battle?

  • Ever play Pole Position, or Missile Command, or Asteroids, or Space Invaders, or Pitfall? All are either only for Atari or better on Atari.

  • Autoracing, Sea Battle, Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, Utopia, Microsurgeon, Atlantis? None of these are available on Atari and kick the ass of all the games you mentioned.

  • No, they don't. Dungeons and Dragons is for faggot dorks (not even straight dorks), Autoracing sucks in comparison to Pole Position, Sea Battle sucks in general, Atlantis also sucks, and Utopia is crap. Pitfall is the greatest game for any console made before 1985.

  • you haven't a clue my friend, listen to Plimpton! Plimpton owns you.

  • No, he knows shit. When it comes to all games from before 1985, nothing beats Atari. Intellibvision had a crappy controller, a copy of the Atari design for the console, crappy games, and 16 wasted bits on 4-bit games that lack fun. If I got one for free, I would smash it and then play my 1978 Atari 2600 on top of the smashed remains.

  • I recently revisited 2600 games and was struck by how little they held my attention. I dug out my Intellivision and spent the whole afternoon duking it out with buddies in Sea Battle. Later we spent 3 hours competing in Utopia. Say what you like about fucking faggot games for fucking faggy faggots or whatever other witticisms, but that's a strong comment on the Intellivision's true dominance of the 2600 as a system with fun, playable games that actually involve the use of some strategy.

  • Plimpton don't have a Nobel for nothing!

  • That's because you are a poser. Only posers aren't entertained by Atari. I played Intellivision and I was bored in 5 minutes. With Atari 2600, I played it all night, without boredom (I stopped so I could sleep).

  • a poser, eh? good one. you obviously still live in your parent's basement.

  • No, I live seperately. I have my own crap as well, like my own '60s TV (which is great for Atari 2600, the second-best console in existance, second only to NES, and it is greater than Intellivision).

  • this guy jerks off to pictures of George Plimpton after playing intellivision titles, he's just in an Atari closet

  • Pole Position - also on Intellivision

    Pittfall - also on intellivision

    defender - also on intellivision

pacman, donkey kong, donkey kong jr. the list goes on on and on. In fact, every single atari game can be played on the intellivision via the intellivision system changer that accepts atari cartridges.

  • Pole Position couldn't officially be on Intellivision, because Atari licensed the rights from Namcot in the US. And Pitfall is better on Atari, Defender is better on Atari (but is even better as an arcade game), Pac-man isn't as bad as it is said to be on Atari, Donkey Kong is better on Atari 2600, all pre-Famicom ports of Donkey Kong Jr. suck, and don't forget that Intellivision's controllers suck (the Atari 2600 controllers are better).

  • Pole position was available for Intellivision. It's a rare game, but it was available. The Intellivision controller has 16 directional disc as well as keypad. The atari, a simple joystick and one button. Note how you use your thumb for nes,n64,xbox,ps2-3 etc, intellivision in a way pioneered this with the disc controller and using your thumb to control movement. Also there is a joystick attachment for the intellivision controllers.

  • Yes, but I don't like disc controllers. I also don't like keypad controllers, because they have too many buttons that usually go to waste. The Atari controller used everything. And I really don't play N64, Xbox (fuck no), nor Ps1/2/3 (fuck no). And the Intellivision version of Pole Positiion is probably not official, nor good (the Atari 2600 version kicks ass).

  • Intellivision looks so realistic!

  • I remember playing these games as a kid. Compare that to the sports games like Madden that kids play today. I miss Atari and Intellivision.

  • Plimpton also hosted Greatest Sports Legends in early 1980's. Why is that show not not on the air.

  • Plimpton ain't easy.

  • the play called in the football portion of the commercial is a 9-5-1-6, any questions? my favorite play was the 9-1-1-1 when the back came out of the backfield straight ahead and stopped for a middle screen. trick was to drop the qb back off the screen, scramble up or down, then release the pass at a 45 degree angle back to the middle of the field to the waiting back. unstoppable. huh. huh. huh. hear that?

  • Intellivision football was solid, thick-ass manuals/playbooks. To this day, I don't really play sports games, but I really did on intellivision. Thank you all for caring.

  • The Intellevision did indeed out-perform the 2600 in graphics...I hated the damn Intellevision controllers, though....

My next-door neighbor got an Intellevision for Christmas and cried & screamed at his Mother b/c he wanted an Atari instead, lol.

  • Plimpton: "Now I will go back to whatever it is I do." *(*refer to "The Simpsons")

  • He was the man. Strong call on Mattel's part to have him for a spokesman.

  • George Plimpton was truly one of a kind. I love his pseudo-British accent and attire. It's a shame that he is no longer alive. Fun fact: While George Plimpton was attending Harvard University, one of his colleagues was Fred Gwynne. That's right! George Plimpton and Fred "Herman Munster" Gwynne were fellow college students at Harvard and even worked for the Harvard Lampoon. Come to think of it, they both have similar voices.

  • CULT!!!

  • SO REAL IT HURTS!!!
