Bella is overweight. And so is her mother. This is not a growth spurt. She's still beautiful because she's Bella, regardless of her weight. Her value has nothing to do with her weight. That's not a growth spurt - that's child obesity. And it is the parents fault for allowing them to eat unhealthy foods and be inactive. Childhood obesity is an epidemic in North America leading to type 2 diabetes and heart disease at younger and younger ages. I don't advocate putting a child on a diet but you can cut out the junk food, encouraging healthy eating, and lots more activity. She would slim down in no time.

when I was her age i was around the same weight. i was obese for my height and my parents knew it Turns out i never really grew into my weight (height wise) i am 5'0 weighing 147lbs...HOWEVER once my body matured (and i lost weight after going to the doctors and her pointing it out i was unhealthy) i turned out ok. Mom NEEDS to cut out the sweets / fast food from her daughter, it wont be a good turnout if she doesn't...all in all shes a beautiful girl, but in fact is overweight, child or not

when I was her age i was around the same weight. i was obese for my height and my parents knew it Turns out i never really grew into my weight (height wise) i am 5'0 weighing 147lbs...HOWEVER once my body matured (and i lost weight after going to the doctors and her pointing it out i was unhealthy) i turned out ok. Mom NEEDS to cut out the sweets / fast food from her daughter, it wont be a good turnout if she doesn't...all in all shes a beautiful girl, but in fact is overweight, child or not

Me and My daughter LOVE to watch this show. But not for the reasons you think we would. We like to make fun of the mothers and what SHALLOW lessons they are teaching them. We watch it as a spectacle. Kind of like, WOW look how crazy these people are... not in an admirable kind of way. In more of a "look at the freaks!" kind of a way...

Aww, I think that this little girl actually gains confidence from the pageants. (That's what they're there for.) She's just having fun. Just because her mom doesn't starve her, that doesn't mean she isn't a cute kid. She's natural. I like her, and the mom seemed okay. That's rare to find on this show.

all the makeup and crap they put on these children, there skin is just gonna flawless when they are older, yeah right. And honestly, people actually need a little bit of fat to live, its only healthy. what if these kids dont wanna be in pageants, what if they just wanna go to the play ground, like a normal kid does, and some children say that they love pageants but thats only because their parents have pretty much brainwashed there kids, its very sad for these children. I hope this soon ends.

I think this whole thing is sad. She's just a little kid! Who cares if she's got a little baby fat for now? Kids aren't supposed to have perfectly flat bellies, and for once I'm glad to see that not every kid in these pageants has to diet--most do.
But I think considering how image-based these competitions are, it's not fair to put your child on display. Even on youtube people are making fun of her weight.
If that's what happens, you shouldn't subject your kid to it.

Wow. I never knew that the beauty pageant girls in Little Miss Sunshine were based off the girls from this TV show. It's really obvious when you look at it, though. I always thought that movie was stretching the truth, but turns out it was a shockingly accurate depiction. :\
