  • Bessie died in the year I was born (1937). Luckily for us not before they were able to produce wonderful recordings like this. As good as it gets. .

  • This is where Janis Joplin got her inspiration.

  • Amazing..real instruments with a real voice.

  • Wow. Written by W. C. Handy, sung by Bessie Smith - how much better does it get?

  • @seriouslytaryn11 It was written by Spencer Williams...

  • She is gorgeous!

  • nobody dislike this song, is obvious...

  • Damn...It kind of gets to you somehow don't it ?

  • Is the trumpet muted?

  • god bless them that sing the blues

  • Louis Bacon on trumpet, far as i can tell by info online.

  • Isn't that Louis Armstrong on the trumpet?

  • heavenly voice!

  • une de mes chansons préférées de Bessie. Voix exceptionnelle

  • @lilisebastien d'accord, comme un oiseau noire

  • I can't get enough of this. Got to hear it every day.

Can anybody post "On Revival Day'", "Hustling Dan", or "Black Mountain Blues"?

  • thank you bessie!you made my life brighter!

  • she is the best singer ever this was my first time hearing her since i did a project on her and how she spent her life singing

  • what the hell, could she be better than this? this voice upsets me. she sang with all her heart. respect to one of the best singers ever.

  • My favorite version of this much-covered song. As usual on almost all of Bessie's stuff: just AMAZING!

  • best singer ever. she started it all

  • @charliebubblesoar Don't forget to give credit to Ma Rainey, Bessie's mentor and inspiration.

  • I've always loved this song. My introduction to this song was when it was used in "The Color Purple" [movie]. SHUG AVERY was singing it in the background during a scene in the movie. BESSIE SMITH was brilliant; and I always enjoy her vocals.

  • My favourite song of the moment. Bessie Smith sings it brilliantly.

  • a pearl!
