I hope I don't get blasted for this but I had never heard "The Dog Days" before hearing Pentatonix perform it and I was instantly hooked. But, curiosity got the best of me so I watched the Florence and the Machine version and I have to say I did not care for it at all...(ducking, lol). I hope this group rules the charts with their album! Love, love, love, them!!!

And for some reason Kirstie -- no offense to anyone who likes her, because I like her, too -- I thought she was trying a bit too hard to look sexy as the season progressed. I guess she has to maximize her position, being the only girl and "stories" tend to revolve around her, but she doesn't have to act too over the top to be sexy. She's already a beautiful girl.

@porcusuxor I definitely agree that she was trying, but with the exception of that song, I don't think I would say she was trying 'too hard'. I didn't like some of the outfit choices (re: Britney dress) but I kinda assumed she had little control over that. Honestly, though, I thought she was sexiest in a clip of them practicing when she had no makeup on, was in a t-shirt and shorts, and had dorky glasses on. :D

I think the way you describe it is the only way it could be. Still feels to me like the mystery voice continues after Avi hits the bass on the 9th count but my mind could just be putting it there. At any rate these guys feel like the Beatles of a capella to me. Taking a format that's been around forever and blowing the doors off it. I know that's a bold statement considering I haven't heard any original work from them yet, but they are just so incredible it feels like the right comparison.

There's an extra voice in this one I can't figure out. Mitch sings "Ruuun", Scott and Kirstie come in together singing "Ruuun", and then at 3:58 it sounds like another voice comes in... another suspension, but lower. I thought it might be Avi, but he comes in with bass and it seems like this extra voice is still holding on at that point. It would have to be Kevin, but can he really do that and not mess up the beatboxing??

@clrammer, how observant you are! I hadn't noticed or fully appreciated that moment until you pointed it out. It sounds, to me, like Mitch holds "Run" alone for 4 counts, Kirstie and Scott come in with "Run" on the 5th count, Avi joins with "Run" on the 7th, and then Avi jumps to bass at the 9th count, while Kevin in holding down the beat throughout. What do you think? Whatever they are doing, it's AWESOME! Pretty sure those are my favorite four seconds ever!

p.s... found out Avi actually CAN hit two different notes at the same time!!! If you haven't already, check out PTX's interview on NPR- link is in the description. Avi demonstrates his special skill during the interview. (He uses it during "E.T." as well.) It.is.unreal.

@K1S7Z3 YES, it's possible--and Avi does it like a boss! There are a couple different names for the technique, including "overtone singing" and "throat singing." For a brief explanation of how one can sing two different pitches simultaneously, check out the Wikipedia article on "overtone singing."

To hear Avi's overtone singing in action, give another listen to "E.T." During Mitch's solo ("This is transcendental...) both the low bassline and the high-pitched whistling are Avi!!

Anyway, I agree with @chickeechick24 -- it is Avi. I've watched it a bazillion times since then, and Mitch, Scott, and Kirstie were still holding their notes when the "extra" comes in -- and if you watch the vid carefully, you can see Avi move from a half-crouch to a stand when he does.
