  • thx for the warning about the sound :)

  • very cool

  • how often do you change the water?

  • am i the only one who got a raging boner after watching this.

  • any one else using this to grow weed? thumbs up if you are

  • Hi i wanted to know what kind of pump are you using. Can you tell me what the name of the model is? Thank you for answering the question

  • gonna make a bunch now myself

  • where do u set the water level?

  • @Xxbre92x Just touching the bottom of the net pot is where I like to keep it.

  • cool guy. thanks for sharing!

  • i like that you did this so small as it just helps show the level of diversity available when growing plants of any kind, from small simple single plant systems all the way up to huge outdoor aquaponic systems that are incorporated into the landscaping

  • @Xxfades321xX Thank you. My hope is someone can build something small an inexpensive just to get into the hobby. Complicated and or expensive systems have their place to be sure but for most people those type of systems come later. You are right, I think the diversity of types and styles are fantastic. Giving people the confidence to built their own systems means we may see simply amazing systems in the future.

  • Can you please tell me how i can make a hydroponic bucket/system with normal water and with out an air pump??? plz reply

  • Simple is best! Keep up the good work.

  • This is a neat little system. However, that tomato plant will be huge in a few weeks and will need a much larger container. I think I may try this with a standard 5 gallon bucket.

  • @backyardsounds I totally agree with you. It's the main reason I made this other video watch?v=105e3eALKPs

  • lol sorry to say but about 90% of people will use this for weed lol and the other 10% for regular legal plants

  • @SlotsxMyxThing You're probably not far off. I just put the info out there, what people do with it is up to them. ;-)

  • The BEST simple setup i've ever seen in my life

I like that more than everything i've seen on youtube

  • If you used the same air pump, but redesigned it to run more than one coffee can, how many do you think you could use the pump with? IOW how many different cans would a pump that size be able to run at one time?

  • @IFUJUSTSMILE2 The same size pump? Honestly I don't know. I found by simply putting a t in the line, the output goes to which ever side is less restricted (only one side worked). Maybe if you use one with valves you could adjust it so they both work but that's only a guess. I've seen higher pressure pumps that could run several of these but they are much more expensive. You save so much building your own system you could buy 3 or 4 pumps if needed. You could experiment and let us all know. :)

  • Very simple very effective, bet you got some nice "tomatoes" thanks for the idea I'm gonna make a bigger system but based on your design happy growing

  • thats not hydroponic. bubble ponics

  • What size pump do you need?

  • I've made 3 so far! Your idea really works! There is a learning curve w/ the nutrients, but your design is wonderful! Thanks!!!!!!!

  • @kypulpfiction That is really great to hear! :) Thank you for letting me know.

  • very nice i love it and it is so simple

  • yea. with that little picture at the end can you should us were the water level is?

  • if you have a ppm and pH meter you don't have to change the water as often as the say just pH it ones a day and ad some grow micro and bloom to reach the ppm number you won. usually water change is good but you can get way with out it, but you do have to change it when you go from vegging to flowering i happened to do only 4 water changes in 2.5 month from start to finish and the plant was better then the times i used to change it every 7 days. that you save nutrients and you get good results

  • how often would i have to change the water

  • @rapstarvision Some people say 7 days some say 14. My best advice is to follow what ever the instructions say from the makers of the hydroponic nutrients.

  • Great design i love it I will build one soon! Couple questions though where and what are you using as a resivior? Do you have one? And does the water circulate back through the pump again?

  • @MrOnefakename The container itself is the reservoir. Keep in mind that it is a air lift pump. If you need a bigger system to grow larger plants check out my top drip bucket hydroponic system video. It works the same way as this one.

  • what brand is your pump so i can go buy one

  • Air tube?

I thought u said water went in there

  • @xXxBLINGO07xXx Actually it's both. The air bubbles rising up in the tube push water up the tube. Look up "air lift pump or airlift pump" for an explanation.

  • does the pump have to on all day?

  • @marito001 Yes. It is an aquarium air pump. They are built to run all day.

  • @FenderGibsonWashburn thank you!!!

  • does it need light on top???

  • Just finished making mine :)

  • i dont really get how the water goes up to the plants..

  • what are those little orange pellet like things in the net pot itself and where can i get them ?

  • @amptron1 I call it Hydroton. You can find it by other names such as clay aggregate, Grow Rocks, expanded clay pellets, and is often called LECA in Europe. You can but it in any hydroponics store and many places on the internet. Unlike most grow media it is manufactured specifically for hydroponics. It's not absolutely necessary but I use it in nearly all my hydroponic systems. Thanks for the question :)

  • Very nice system, i built one by my own and it works perfectly! but i found one problem!

What is about the hydro-solution below the netpot, there isnt any air inside! I think this would be a problem for the roots in the solution, isnt it!

I started my system a few days before, so i couldnt say something about it, but maybe you could help me!

I will try another variation, maybe it works...

  • @FUXILUCHSI Like all systems that use an air-lift pump, that's where the air is mixed with the water. Even in my 5 gallon system I added an air-stone. Not that it was having a problem, I just felt I should. As long as the roots don't get brown and slimy they're getting enough air.

You are more likely to run out of room for the roots for larger plants since this is so small of a system.

  • i made me a perc latr it seems like it works but wen the water comes out it comes like a little bit of sperks at a time how fast or slow is the water pose 2 com out???????

  • @kwan12341000 If you listen to the one I built in the video you will hear it makes the perk noise every second or two. As long as it's keeping the roots wet it's working fine. :-)

  • i like this idea , good work man

  • @ironlungdtoker Thank you. I'm happy you like it.

  • I'm trying to make the air lift pump. I've done everything you've said to do but when i turn it on it works for a couple of seconds and then water stops coming out. I dont know what to do. I mean do I put the tube coming out of the side higher or lower or do I not put it as far into the tube? If you could help me that would be great.

  • @wireedacnt Without seeing it I will only be guessing. Like I told TunaTrain, the aquarium hose has to fit tight enough in the cap to not leak any air. The tube coming out the side only has to be in far enough to hold it, If it's a little way in shouldn't hurt anything. If anything lower the tube, going higher won't help. Check the end of the video to make sure you have the measurements correct. Don't be afraid to experiment, you may come up with something even better. :)

  • I tried making this and its not working correctly. When i turn the pump on it just makes bubbles inside the pvc tube. if i push the rubber hose down further it sticks out bottom and just makes bubbles in the coffee container. I need to figure out how to get the water circualting, also how high do i fill the water? above the hole with tubing going to net pot or a few inches below? or right below?

  • @TunaTrain The first question I have to ask, is the PVC end cap air tight? The aquarium hose has to fit tight enough in the cap to not leak any air. The bubbles lift the hydroponic solution up the pipe, the air pressure exits out through the tube going to the net pot and carries the solution with it. If the cap is sealed, fill the can with water to see at what point it starts spitting water out of the tubing. This is your minimum solution level, usually right below the tubing.

  • @FenderGibsonWashburn Thank you so much, i feel stupid, i caulked everything so that it was air tight and it seems to be working now. Its not supposed to be a steady stream into the net pot correct? It shoots dropletts of water out every second or so. I have a feeling its plenty of water but i will test it out now. I am using perlite instead of clay pebbles, do you see any problem with that?

  • @TunaTrain Excellent, sounds like it's working perfectly! Perlite should work just fine in this system. Message me or review the video if you have any more questions. Have Fun! :)

  • Could you plz tell me what is the benefit of the air pump ??

Is it important all this much ?

  • @SalehMagrabi The air pump is necessary. It's what makes the whole thing work. The action of the air pump is what feeds the plant the hydroponic nutrients. It also puts oxygen in the solution for the roots of the plant. If the air pump is not available there are some very simple hydroponic systems that use no pumps at all.

  • Looking to get into hydroponics. I think i will start with a small setup

like the one you have to see if i can get any thing to grow.

I have given up with house plants. I do not even have a green pinky

  • @wtf0804 This is a nice mini system to "get your feet wet" LOL sorry, bad pun. Besides doing some gardening I didn't have much success with plants either. With a properly working hydroponic system you don't have to know much about plants. You maintain the system, the system grows the plant.

  • where does that other tube go i guessing a motor but what kind how big

  • @KAmotoclothing It just goes to an aquarium air pump. Size really doesn't matter. I tried it on a small one for a 1 gallon tank and one for a 30 gallon tank and they both worked.

  • Very nice

    Eazystarrr024 loves smokin ganja

  • how exactly do you cut the holes for the air tubes to go in and out of the pvc pipe and into the net pot?

  • @MrZablon I just use my Dremel tool and eye it up. Drill a little bit and check it. Just keep the hole smaller the the outside diameter of the tube. You could use a drill bit slightly smaller than the air tube. Find one that works for you and always use that one. I use my Dremel tool more often than not.

  • How do u transfer the "tomatoe" ;) plant when it gets biger I'm a Newbie a growin

  • @iloveweeed100 just take the net pot out and stick in in another system. That's the cool part about making your own systems is that you can standardize all of them to use the same net pots.

  • Built One and it works great.. Thanks.

  • @lastpatriot4America That's great! Thanks for letting me know. :)

  • You just saved me a lot of money. For clones this is perfect and it works. Thank You

  • @lastpatriot4America Glad I could help. :)

  • can i grow weed with this

  • @dkinb67 You can grow pretty much whatever you want. You only limit is this is a pretty small system. If you try to grow like a six foot tomato plant you will run out of room for the roots.

  • @FenderGibsonWashburn I don't have sound on my computer sadly, so I was wondering what materials you used and the nutrient solution. I am trying to grow an American Radish by using hydroponics and your video was the best I could find. If your nutrient solution contained any kind of Nitrogen or Phophors, tell me how to get them.

    Thank You

  • @Michan1100 I do not make my own nutrient solution and have no interest in doing so. If you don't live near a hydroponics store you can order it over the internet. A quart bottle will make gallons of nutrient solution. Hydroponic solution not only contains nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, it also contains many micro-nutrients the plant would normally get from soil.

  • looks basic but you confuse me with the part that trickles the water down. Ok so do you need 1 or 2 air line tubes? one that agitates the water for oxygen... and one that sucks the water out and trickles it down?

  • @maui234 You only need one. You could add a second one as you described if you like but I haven't found it necessary.

  • hi im trying your set up soon i have everything im just waiting for my floranova nutrients i was just curious if a little 15 gallon pump was enough how much should it bubble and only fill water to right below net pot? please help

  • @rasta619420 An air pump for a 15 gallon tank is plenty big for this small system.

  • hi im trying your set up soon i have everything im just waiting for my floranova nutrients i was just curious if a little 15 gallon pump was enough how much should it bubble and only fill water to right below nepot

  • Does anyone know of any good seed banks that they have ordered from and recieved good quality with no problems from the law?

  • Hey there awesome videos and plants. Just made this and its my first hydroponic. Do you keep it running 24/7? Or a couple times a day? Can't find the information anywhere else.

  • @2HHHHBKdx2 Yep just leave it run 24/7.

  • @FenderGibsonWashburnhey did it cost anything to build this

  • @ferrah202 It all depends what you have on hand. The air pump was about $8 and the air tube was a couple bucks. The rest is a used coffee can a used yogurt cup and a piece of left over pipe.

  • Comment removed

  • It's ok to use pebbles but you have to have hydroponic plant food in the water.

  • also are those little pebbles plant food? I just put pebbles in mine and im guessing thats not great

  • @fastcash124 they are orchid stones make for easy clean up and they r reusable and if they are stone from ur back yard im not shure i havent tryed it i would immagin ud have to cleen them well to remove any harmful contaminates

  • no solution is coming up my hose to the plant, whats goin on?

  • @fastcash124 u probibly dont have enough solution in it

  • damn I need to fix my coffee lid now haha.

  • soil peo[le

  • What happens when your roots hit the water/solution or does it not matter or should thier b an airstone on the bottom ?

  • @Tc4speed1 The roots will definitely hang in the solution, that's a good thing. You could add an air stone but I haven't found it to be necessary. Once the roots are long enough you could actually switch this over to a totally bubbleponic system if you wanted.

  • @dail420leaf I can't really tell by your video if your plant is getting any hydroponic solution. Your best bet is to have the cup part way down in the solution till it establishes a healthy root system. The Percolator actually delivers solution right to the roots so there is no need to submerge the plant at all. I hope this helps. :)

  • hey man thank you i didn't do it exactly like you did i had different supplies but it was very helpful. i hope to post a couple videos of the one i made in a couple days.

  • @atanner1025 That's great! It what it's all about, use what you have on hand. It's fun to be creative. Let me know when the videos are posted, message me.

  • dude another quick question i got this old tetratec deep water pump and wen i plug it in all it does is vibrate does this mean its broken or do i just need a airstone? thanks man

  • @lookoutbitch I'm no pump expert but from your description it sounds broken to me. It should be able to pump air with or without an air stone. Since it's broke anyway, open it up and take a look. If you can fix it cool, if you can't at least you see what's inside.

  • will this work for weed?

what is the hydroponics solution that you use?

and where can i find an air pump?

  • You could grow some killer weed with that.

  • dude your videos are awesome i wish some of em were a lil more instructional for some of us that are trying to build there first system but i liked to ask you if i built this system and added a air stone what would be the pros and cons of that? o yea whats a good way to keep the water warm could i put it on a heating mat or put one of those water warmer thingys in there?

  • @lookoutbitch Your not the first person to ask so I have plans to make a construction video. For growing herbs in such a small unit I didn't find it necessary to add an air stone but It would be beneficial for the plant, I don't see a downside. Since germination mats are used under plastic pots and are able to get wet I would say that would be the best way. I personally wouldn't use an aquarium heater in such a small system. Don't be afraid to experiment. :)

  • dude your videos are awesome i wish some of em were a lil more instructional for some of us that are trying to build there first system but i liked to ask you if i built this system and added a air stone what would be the pros and cons of that?

  • I love it.

  • i liked it. it was very simole and very cheap. and it looked like it was working great.

  • good stuff very basic and smart

  • looks neat but here's some of my concerns: 1. the net pot needs many more and larger holes or openings. As the roots grow they will need better access to the air and solution.

    2. changing the solution and monitoring will be a hassle because you have to remove plant and/or lid to do so. This is a benefit of a central reservoir.

Very creative design mixing hydro and aeroponics! An update showing a mature plant would be nice to see.

  • @vtprisonco 1. there was one large hole cut in the very bottom. I grew that tomato plant to harvest with that net cup in a 3 gallon bubbleponic system.

    2. True. I have since learned how to add a solution level to the outside which can also be used to drain the system. This was meant to be a one container stand alone system for a beginner.

This is actually closer to a top drip (side drip?). No aeroponics involved unless you add an air stone. Good observations, thanks for the comments. :)

  • How big of a plant can you grow in one of there?

  • How big of a plant can you grow in one of there?

  • how does a hydroponic solution work?

does it tell u the ratio on the bottle of how much to use?

can i make my own solution?

  • @sparklerbombg Yes some bottles tell you the ratio, or you can buy a device that measures the ppm (it measures the dissolved solids in water in parts per million) and that's the easiest way to measure your solution. And yes you can make your own solution. There's an awesome system for sale on the channel indoor growing. Wish I could afford it :)

  • how would i do this if i just a seed no clone send me a message at ebk97 its my youtube

  • does anyone know if fastergardens com is legit?

  • @TheHempMessiah Yes they are , I ordered a package a while back with no problems. The coffee can kit is cool though.

  • @alsfilms Really thats good to hear i ordered the bubbler system im waiting for it to arrive, how did you do with yours?

  • Comment removed

  • This is really cool. You look like such a nice man too. Peace!

  • I think I will have to try that. I have some of those cans laying around the house thanks for the tip.i will post a comment of how it goes as soon as its made thank you again.

  • @xiSevenSaintsix Looking forward to hearing how it goes. I have received a few messages from people who have built this system and really enjoy it. The most common thing I hear is to make sure the vertical pipe is small enough. 1/2' inside diameter is the maximum you should go. Smaller diameter seems to work even better. Pex and Poly pipe are also good alternative to the pvc one.

  • hey i made this exact thing for my indoor herbs and its not really working. how far down in the resevoir does the pipe have to go? does the tube going to the pot also have to be sumerged? because im getting no lift? its not suppposed to be a constent flow of water but jus a drip right? let me know if im doing something wrong i dont want to buy a water pump i like this idea so let me know plz..

  • @jdes1524 The pipe and the air tube from your aquarium pump must be close to the bottom. The level of the hydroponic solution should be just below the net pot or even just touching. Try putting the tube going to the net pot closer to the bottom of the pipe. You could also try a pipe with a smaller inside diameter. Compare your measurements with the diagram I have at the end of my video. If your still having issues message me. I'm sure you will love this system once it's working right.

  • @jdes1524 I had the same problem, then i chewed some gum, stuck it around the air tube going into the top and blame, air tight seal, started pumping water up.

  • @footslugs #LOL That's fantastic! Whatever works for you. I think it's great when people get creative. :)

  • That surely is a very inexpensive way of building your own hydroponics system. I actually find it very creative. But I guess the only drawback to this system is that if you plan to grow many plants, you really must get a bigger reservoir or make several percolators.

  • @lovingmygarden If you want to grow many plants or one very large plant this is not the system for you. If you wish to grow some type of herb or even flowers on your kitchen windowsill without spending much money, this is just the thing. Thanks for taking the time to comment. :)

  • @FenderGibsonWashburn : thanks for the ideas :)

  • What is the round pebbel looking stuff that the plant is growing in?

  • why not just let the water sit in the bottom of the container and a pump inside and let it bubble onto the roots? why use the pcv pipe?

  • @ArizonaAdventures This is a system built in a coffee can and it sounds like a Percolator. Don't you think that's kind of cleaver? Why build a top drip, or NFT, or Flood and Drain, or Aeroponic, or etc... They are all Hydroponic Systems and they all work. My goal is to show people with a few available parts and a little imagination that they can build their own system. If you would rather build a bubbleponics "sub-aeration" System then do that. Why ask why? Just have fun! :)

  • @FenderGibsonWashburn I think its a great little setup that anyone can make with very little money, I love budget builds!!! I just got done with a cheap indoor grow box im putting the video up now, and I'm definately going to try the Percolater!!! Thanks FenderGibson!!!

  • Can you give me a list of materials for this

  • @rudzik1515 Yes, a used plastic coffee can, a short piece of 1/2" i.d. PVC or Poly tube, a cap for the tube, aquarium air line, and a yogurt cup. Extra materials, grow media, hydroponic solution, an aquarium air pump, and a plant. I hope this helps. :)

  • @FenderGibsonWashburn how long should the pipe be?

  • @kris82076 If you use the exact same coffee can with the exact same cap it's 6 1/8" long. The length is not critical. You can use any similar container, the pipe can be PVC PEX or Poly 1/2", The net pot can be almost anything from 1.5 inches to 3.5 inches. Nothing about this has to be exact. There is a diagram at the end of the video, if you do something similar it should work. The best thing to do is just build it and adjust if necessary. Don't sweat it. :)

  • I made one of my own today and i was just wondering how much water is supposed to trickle over the roots? Is there supposed to be a steady flow of water or a kind of spurt ever 2 or 3 seconds? Im new to hydro lol. Thanks.

  • @TheBigxrich12 If it's doing a spurt every 2 or 3 seconds CONGRATULATIONS! It's working correctly. Great job!

  • thank you, for the reply =]

  • This is exactly what I ma looking for! I am trying to find a way to do hydroponics with a Lilybulb? Have you ever tried this with a system like this? I am a beginner and becoming very interested in growing flowers with hydro. Have you tried this with bulbs?

  • WOW! sounds like a great experiment? I just have one question... How much light are you suppose to use for the plant?

  • @cgarciaq23 The seed packet or the tag that comes with your plant will tell you as far as sunlight goes. Artificial light usually longer. It depends on the plant and many other factors I don't have room to get into here.

  • Really enjoy this build, great work I admire your imagination. I have been looking for net pots now in my area for a week. I eat yogurt every day and throw away my cups.

    "bonks head"

  • @Nephilen The cool thing is, if you find a source for net pots you can swap out the yogurt cups if you wish. I use both.

  • @Nephilen Just found a place to get net pots, still a great idea to use the cups to start off. thnxs again

  • I wonder if a Mr Bubbles would work... one of those air machines used byu fishermen to keep their bait alive... It seems like the same thing, except louder... Let me know what you think, THANKS!

  • @MrsHamdulila I don't know from experience but I can't imagine any reason why it wouldn't work as long as the batteries hold out.

  • I forgot to mention do you need cloning solution in order for roots?

  • @bukvithaya Nope, no cloning solution.

  • Thank you so much

  • that was all i needed, THANK YOU!

  • WIDERSHINS: The very finest set up I have seen so far I have been looking for this type of set up for a long time. Some of the comments were great some made me slap my head on the table to see if I was still awake. When you get past seventy years old anything will amuse you. Thank you great video.

  • what are those peanut looking things your using to grow your plant?

and where can i get some? :D

  • WHAT IS THE LIQUID YOU USEING...I WANT TO MAKE ONE OF THESE AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THE STUFF IS...THANK YOU ..I DONT KNOW WHY ITS ALL IN CAPS BTW

  • How did you start the seed? If you put it in perlite, do you keep it inside the house or outside? Does it need sunlight or just to be at room temperature?

  • @mindy2215 There are many was to start the seed. I have a video that shows how I do it with a paper towel. I also sometimes start the plants in those peat-moss disks and carefully wash the peat off. Starting in perlite works too.

I've used this system outside setting on my porch and it works great in the summer. Room temperature is fine for most plants. Plants need plenty of light from either a south facing window or grow lights if indoors.

  • Nice DIY!

I've been using the word Hydroponics I guess without knowing what it means.. Now that I know I'm curious to build my own thing .. this is just the right size too!!

  • i dont see how that works.....diagram is fine just doesnt make sense. how is the water getting to the roots?

  • CAN YOU MAKE A STEP BY STEP VID ON IT

  • COLOMBIA !!!!

  • Gotta Build me one

  • kool dude, thankz :) will update you on my next grow next month if your intrested in watching it

  • How many times is that shit suppose to pump the air up everyday? Would like to know since im interested in making one of these man. :)

  • @tight4soundz Just let the pump run all the time.

  • soo i'd really like to make this, is there like an instructional video somewhere? haha

  • @youalllovezakk I thought it was pretty simple but you are not the first person to mention an instructional video. Do you think I should do a video of me actually making one?

  • @FenderGibsonWashburn well i just don't really understand the concept of the airlift pump i think, i'm sure that if i was to look into the making of an airlift pump i could figure it out, i was just being lazy :P thank you thoo, i'm gonna try and make one of these soon :)

  • @FenderGibsonWashburn i think people would benefit from that

  • @FenderGibsonWashburn i think u should man it would be a hit im using a a 6 pod system with only one pump splitting 6 ways and it works perfect people can add on to your system they should know that to like what i did

  • @FenderGibsonWashburn yes yow should deffinately do that...and show us what those lil penutlooking things are and what the sulution ur using iss

  • @FenderGibsonWashburn yes i'd follow those instructions very closely
