Although I am an atheist and will stand by my beliefs to the end of time, I must concede that religious people sure do know how to make amazing songs.
i don't know why, but i'm a sucker for old hymnal songs, i just love the meaning of the lyrics(i am a t christian) and just how they sing & and the piano style. it surprises me that their are people who actually dislike this video, it's a wonderful song, each vocal part is sung wonderfully!
Does anyone else think that they chorister at 1:50 is Andy Roddick? Seriously..it looks just like him. Love this btw. Wish I was so talented. Merry Christmas all!
@tehmonkey100 I agree. Europeans have almost perfected religion: All of the culture, none of the extremism. Warms my heart, it does. Makes me sad to live in America.
@ih8makinusernames American's don't have many options. We either have culture less commercialized atheist bullcrap or strict religion. I myself am not too religious but America needs religious morals, values, and culture!!
@TheAmericanDefender America needs humane morals and values. A lot of religious morals make no sense. Their culture should be less commercialized, but not necessarily religious. And of course you have the choice.
@golferknip11 Sorry my mistake Its because this is Britain, a country thousands of years old. The Churches are easily more than a 1000 years old. This is Cambridge Cathedral I THINK, built around the year 900AD.
adanali85 - just had a quick visit to your site, and I guess you're Turkish, any chance you could post some nice Turkish music vids for us to watch?, I love the sound of the oud!
I am a Wiccan turned Reformed Unitarian/polygamous Mormon with a smattering of Zoroastrianism (but no mayo on that, please) and I find this to be a perfectly lovely version of a Christmas classic.
I would be disappointed if the hymn were concluded with a round of applause. That would mean it was a performance and not a sacred act of corporate divine worship.
The combination of architecture, art and music-is this not proof of the existence of God? The inspiration was not created in a godless void. I don't mean to be rude or intolerant: This is something that Christians created, embrace and offer to others who want to join with Christ.
Amazing, we make the most beautiful creations (art, music, architecture), and commit the worst atrocities in the name of the same faith. christian, Jew, Muslim. makes no difference.
How nice that the above comment from adanali85 is from a Muslim, pitty that the same spirit of mutual respect and appreciation cannot be reflected in the wider world. Christian, Muslim, Jew or Hindu - we are all human.
to all who think this is a Roman-Catholic service:
It isn't!! It is an Anglican service within the Church of England as a matter of fact :))) We are Catholic, but not Roman-Catholic. Wikipedia might help you with its explanantions.
yeah , when people gather to make songs and hymns to God and especially to the evolution and growth of humankind, to evovle the best things in our souls, thats when we are truely strong and find peace among ourselves and eachother.
this is a great arrangement and performance. I particularly like the high choral counter melody about 3 quarters of the way through.. truly excellent climbing effect that takes the composition to a new level.
Lately I've been having problems with religion, I'm not sure what I believe in and whether I can still call myself a Christian or not... But this amazing song somehow makes it easier to believe in God. Such a powerful piece. I've loved this carol since the very first time I heard it many years ago.
im personally not christian/catholic, and this is amazing. Your religion is amazing in how it has developed a story around your Jesus that is so truthful and powerful that things such as this may come out of it. great video
even though i am an atheist, some church hyms and gospel songs are so beautiful, mabe it is just because i love almost all music generas except trance. :)
@herifuzhenguan2 One day, you might ask yourself why it does what it does to you. If you really thiunk about it, long and hard, your atheism will disappear like smoke on the wind.
This carol is rather unknown in my home country (Finland), but I have loved this beautiful song for a long time. This version here is totally awesome!
My favourite hymn! I always think of a snowy Victorian christmas morning in a church in the English countryside and it warms my heart! Thankyou for putting it up!
1. God rest ye merry, gentlemen, Let nothing you dismay, For Jesus Christ our Saviour Was born upon this day, To save us all from Satan's power When we were gone astray: O tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy, O tidings of comfort and joy. 2. From God our heavenly Father A blessèd angel came, And unto certain shepherds Brought tidings of the same, How that in Bethlehem was born The Son of God by name: O tidings of comfort and joy
3. The shepherds at those tidings Rejoicèd much in mind, And left their flocks a-feeding In tempest, storm and wind, And went to Bethlehem straightway, This blessèd Babe to find: O tidings of comfort and joy. 4. But when to Bethlehem they came, Whereat this Infant lay, They found Him in a manger, Where oxen feed on hay; His mother Mary kneeling, Unto the Lord did pray: O tidings of comfort and joy.
very beautiful carol. Merry Christmas everybody from Madrid (Spain). Feliz Navidad a todos, amigos, este villancico es precioso y está interpretado de maravilla.
i must say i also thought that this rendition was corkingly splendid also. the other replicantes leave much to be desired old chap it really is appalling. anyway im off to shoot some feasent and smoke a pipe if you don't mind.good day
