What a joke seen the bottle neck caused around 5pm onwards....lol...........you now have southern traffic colliding with airport traffic!!! No forwarded planning with this idea just more congestion...What did they think would happen when you have thousands of people all using the same highway!!!..........waste of rate payers money..........."IDIOTS"
I drove for an hour and a half today just to try out the new southbound lane. It's awesome and I can't believe how much quicker it is that Wiri Station Road. Well done guys and girls.
Hurrah, more roads, less public transport investment for Manukau. Still, hopefully it'll make roads less busy around Manukau City Centre so that it can finally be made a bit more pedestrian friendly.
@svartmetall48 - the project also involves building a railway into Manukau, alongside the motorway. Trains will start running between Manukau CBD and Britomart from mid 2011.
@GeoffBlackmore Yes, I'm fully aware of the Manukau Spur line, however, the overall focus for Manukau is still road-based. Due to poor station location, I do wonder how well utilised the Manukau rail link will be compared to the more conveniently located buses which stop directly at Westfield Manukau. Still, we'll have to wait and see.
