@Victoria.....Thank you sooo much for answering me.you are so kind I think.I live in Newjersy.USA.it's been 10 days I am looking for a baby starling. but I didn't find I am so unlucky I guess.
But thanks to you.now tell me how find the Exterminator.please may be you can help me,and I think you are a bird lover.wish for me.god bless you. Me and my daughter (10) really want a baby starling.bye take care.
Some people special breed starlings to get certain colors, like silver. If you want a hand raised starling you can look for a breeder also instead of just picking them out of the nest.
I have a friend who had a house sparrow he picked out of a nest though. She couldn't talk or sing and she was mean but she was cute. He raised her up and then let her go outside the house. She'd come back in whenever she liked.
@papia18 If you live in the US it is legal to have them. Talk to an exterminator, they are often called to remove nests from siding and soffits and just kill the babies. Ask a vet or a wild bird rehabber to show you how to feed it (it's easy). Feed it on dry dog food soaked until it is soft. When it begins to feed itself, offer it veggies or scrambled egg as well.
That is really neat, did you raise it from a baby chick? I love starlings, but where I live the farmers consider them a "pest" bird because they eat alot of wheat at the weigh stations. The colors in the sunlight are so beautiful.
Agreed. I have a pair of starlings that nest in a hole in a nearby garage, I love to watch them hunt around for bug..I really enjoy listening to the male make his calls, he includes calls from all sorts of birds! It's really neat!
It is so adorable how the starling is running all over his arms singing like a phone and the guy is all straight faced with this cute thing on his shoulder. It's great!! thanks.
What a gorgeous Starling! That's a funny sound. I think all starlings have one sound they like to do over and over and over. Like my starlings "ugly sound" which they all learned and repeat 650,000 times a day hahaha. I'll try to put a video up, but no one let your starling hear it! ;)
They both have robbed so many of the native American birds nest sites and migrating nesting birds sites, such as the Tree Swallow, Blue Bird, Purple Martin, Screech Owl, Kestrel Hawk, and Wood Pecker to name a few. I have Purple Martins every year and every I kill Starlings and English Sparrow. The Starling and Sparrow will kill our birds if you let them live. The majority of the people who like these birds in the U.S. must live in the city.
I love starlings, but here in Norway we dont keep them as house pets. Instead we leave them alone and let them breed in the free;-) They are endangered in many countries so I do my share by building bird houses for them.
PS. You look like Michael Wincott! And thats a GOOD thing:D
Here in the U.S., starling are everywhere. They are an invasive species hich makes it legal to keep them as pets. Unfortunately, all I have now are the videos becuse the Bird in this video passed-away in November 2008.
@LisTheVideoMaker Starlings are not endangered species!!! Maybe not common in Scandinavia but not endangered! There are millions of those birds in the medditeranean countries during winter!
@CavemanGR There numbers started to dramaticly reduce in some regions of europe, they been even added to red list in UK together with House Sparrow, ironicly 2 birds that get most hate in NA. Yes they not endangered globally... yet, but situation where there more of them on where they not suppose where they slowly dissapper is odd and not good situation for that bird
You are so lucky to have a starling. They are so comical, big personalities! I had a fledling for 2 weeks, it was doing really well, but I have 2 cats so had to give it to a rescue.
Great birds! Love watching them play and chatter in big groups.
We have a lot of them here in the wild in england, but never as pets. They are very sociable birds... and very seldom seen alone. Normally they come in 10s!! But I know they can join other groups and be even more happy!
Your starling is gorgeous, especially the yellow beak. I myself have 4 of them. Check out StarlingTalk . net and you'll meet a whole bunch of us starling nuts. :)
Definitely - that's how the bird also learned to say "Hello". Sometimes when Ghetto makes the door squeaking noise we answer the door too. That's how he learned to say "Who is it?"
That is amazing! I thought you were faking at first....unreal!....there was a bird locally who would mimic a car alarm..that was a starling, too.
They descend in flocks, like crazy hoodlums in the gardens, bullying and chaffing one another....and fly in amazing formations at dusk.[U.K]

How would a bird with a beak like that de-husk a seed? I think something else must be eating the wheat.

Starlings eat lots of things, including sinew of dead carcasses, bits of meat given to them... lots of stuff. They're tough birds.
