It was so disappointing seeing Venus lost to Vaidisova in the French QF.... she's had a couple chances since 2002 to get into the semis there but blew them both.
00:18 - It's so disappointing to see someone with as much talent as Vaidisova not playing anymore! I hope she makes some sort of comeback at least... I think she quit waaaay too soon....
If Venus actually mentally tuned into matches, she'd play this brand of tennis more and more. I think time and age has unfortunately caught up with her. As much as she wants to believe, her desire isn't what it once was and she isn't making the changes needed to successfully adapt. Instead she plays every year the same. You only have to see how she starts the year to notice that. The hong kong exho every time, even when it doesnt do anything for her.
her reach is amazing...she just needs to get a better game plan though. Right now she is trying to be super aggressive and cut down on errors at the same time which is causing doubt.
She should pick one; go all out or keep errors down. There shouldn't be an in between.
@chrisak49 i disagree...i actually think she isnt being aggressive enough and is being too defensive-minded when she goes out there. she plays way too much defenese and doesnt take the initiative to have an offensive mindset....that and her killer instinct isnt there anymore....i hope she gets her game back cuz she can very much still win a few more majors...i just dont see the fire and drive that was in her eyes back in 2000-2003
@dc3fan2003 i see what you are saying but i see so many matches she loses because she is spraying the ball or being too passive. I don't know the last time I saw Venus hit a return winner. It seems her return game has gone so PASSIVE. And the backhand. I don't know what is up but she used to hit the backhand down the line and inside out A LOT more.
And if you watch her new game, she is hitting flatter. I think she should go back to hitting with more topspin like 1999-2003 on forehands.
@chrisak49 well i think the sprayed balls has to do with her confidence and lack of offensive prowess...she is not an offensive player anymore. she relies too much on defense...but i do agree that her game is passive, including the return. her game now is good enough to reach semis and finals and win tournaments but not to win majors outside wimbledon...i honestly feel her biggest problem is her fire....she yearned for majors back in 99-2003, and nowadays she seems a lil too calm out there

2005 wimbledon--the most desire i have ever seen from an athlete...EVER
@dc3fan2003; true! Just true..Venus and Serena in good shape and with that killer instinct as you describe it, ar the two best players on the tour by far! It they played like they did in 2000-2003 they would be numer 1 and 2 again. Serena came so close to that level in 2010..was very sad she didn't win the French! Venus losing at Wimbledon and the Us Open was just so hard to watch..

@iwalden97 i totally agree...but that desire and passion hasnt translated into the other grandslams...she seems too lackadaisical out there.

@dc3fan2003 i agree with that. if she was more motivated, she would win matches playing like garbage but could win them with desire and persistence
