  • What happened to Nas?? dont get mad at me but dont you guys think hes a bit of a hypocrite? please explain

  • its easy to learn a style from studying a older mc that already did it and run with it, its not easy to create a style from nothing for all the considered best mcs they learned from the ones who created they style, BIG PUN -G=RAP style, Nas- Rakim style, JAY-Z- DADDY KANE STYLE the smooth player cat, so try to create something from nothing and see how hard that is, you wouldnt have these other MCS with them and the styles they created, and most of all MELLE MELL the most credit for an MC

  • @2:45 I love it when you see the clarity and distinct laying down of the law when he says that he pulled Nas aside and said he's got love for him....BUT: "at the same time it's principle, man." Rakim is just so street, so low-key and hushed about out-of-school-talk, and that's why I love him.

  • you know you know you know :D

  • man somebody needs to get nas and rakim on an permier production.

  • @shagdad76 They did. Check out the song "Classic" by DJ Premier. It got Nas KRS & Rakim. Kanye is on the track but he just says random shit in between verses.

  • Yo..Rakim you need to do another album...whats hip op without you?

  • I think its SOOOO sad how literally no one knows who Rakim is. This man, created every lyrical MC out there. From Nas to J Cole to KRS. He CHANGED Hip Hop. Love to my brother Rakim, the GOD MC

  • @TheJokessss rakim got his first album out in '87 with Eric B called "Paid In Full" and Krs One got his first album out also in '87 with BDP called "Criminal Minded" now idk if its true but Ra is rapping since 85 and Krs since 84..so...i dont tink your right about that..j cole hmm...song with drake..i dont realy like him..and Nas..well Nas(made a song with main source back in 91)but Nas..he is Gods son..Rakim's son

  • @Graail7 Not to argue around and all that but Rakim was known as the Kid Wizard back in them days.

  • Wait: He says that Nas wrote a track about Rakim. But Wich track? Somebody tell me?

  • @JRakels U.B.R ((Unauthorized Biography Of Rakim) from streets disciple album

  • @themstar94: Yes, Rakim is the best MC to bless a mic! But no, Rakim doesn't need to "fix up" - I have seen Rakim is his "evening apparel", and he's impeccably sharp: just one bracelet, one ring, a sick camel-colored button-up jacket, killer-cut dress pants and the best pair of shoes I've seen on a brother! And no, he wasn't going to court, he was attending a Kool G Rap Tribute party. I have met Rakim four times now ; this is his wind-down attire, he looks damn young for his age,he's all swag!

  • Rakim is thee best rapper, but he needs to fix up, hes nearly 45 and hes dressed like he is 20

  • @themstar94 i didnt know clothes had age limits, its hip hop u dress how the fuck u want, what kind of gas as comment is that, this shit about the music who gives a fuck what he wearing

  • Rakim's the man, no doubt. And nas did emulate his rhyme style, but nas also took it to another level and added more emotion, personality, etc. with it.

  • @jb4real14 naw man Nas did not take it to another level he aint on Rakims level, its easy to learn someones style but try to create a style from nothing try to create something from nothing and see how hard that is,, trust Nas aint took nothing to another level at all, u might say that cause nas music probably came out for your generation

  • rakim is goood but nas is better.. some people find that hard to admit

  • @LHR90101 really? how the hell is that possible. Nas came from Rakim!

  • @LHR90101 not even close Nas whole style is from studying RAKIM, try creating something from nothing, is easy to learn someones style and run with it, but try doing something like RAKIM,G-RAP and create a style from nothing,,,

  • Rakim is hip hop. Still looking like a b- boy. With a b-boy swagga.

  • Wtf akuu193?! You want kiss or what?

  • damn his lips are so black

  • a great BOOK was published recently, with the best MCs in the game, Rakim, G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, Tribe- Pharoahe Monch, all giving amazing insights into being a real MC, its the boook thats called this-

    HOW,TO,RAP .. HOW,TO,RAP .. HOW,TO,RAP

    HOW,TO,RAP .. HOW,TO,RAP .. HOW,TO,RAP

    HOW,TO,RAP .. HOW,TO,RAP .. HOW,TO,RAP

  • Man, this situation was over a long time ago, Rakim is all cool with it, so is Nas. Thef fact that disputatious dialogue is still happening is damn childish. Rakim is a sick brother - unbeatable lyricist, completely the jewel in Hip-Hop's crown. So chill y'all - if it's cool with the God, all is forgiven, so stop chattering and listen to these wicked brothers spit fire, for real.

  • @aftermathkayg go away with your words... on the internet. just a reminder, to bring you back to reality. you, all your +1s and your opinions are irrelevant to everything and anything that has every existed and Rakim is the shit! So when he talks, his shit is legit. oh yeah this is like one of those emails DO NOT REPLY.

  • @aftermathkayg You must also keep in mind that without Rakim there would be no Nas or anybody else. He brought rap to a new era and a lot of these cats now are ruining it. Old school my ass. He will rip any of these new cats a new asshole if they ever try to diss him. You better check his files dude!

  • @aftermathkayg You must be a teenager or something. Grown men don`t like their business out there like that. Nas and Rakim are 2 of my favorite rappers of all time and Nas should have talked to him first. Just because someone inspires you don`t mean you gotta put their personal shit out there...lol

  • @aftermathkayg but at the same time, he deserves the right to privacy, and not have another rapper talk about his private life, which is no concern to Nas.

  • @aftermathkayg Well said

  • God MC

  • @pagola. Not true. Rakim gave Lupe Much love for preserving hip hop. And this was on Lupe's Freshmen debut.

  • they brought together all

the true pioneers of emceeing to

protect and document the skills in a book,

    dedicated to real emceeing... called-

    ..H'' O''W ....TO'....R ''A ''P..

    truly classic,

    book to check out...

  • @aftermathkayg no disrespect but this is how new yorkers are.....they beef with each other all the time and if your not form new york your not "hip hop""

  • Mighty full of ourselves aren't we?

  • @rakimthegod1 word!!! rakim can walk on rap water!!! it flows from the mouth of rakim!!

    another old school king!!

  • @aftermathkayg When was this interview? i thought rakim was dead..

  • Comment removed

  • Nas is better period ! Look I dig them both Rakim give the world flow, but Nas amplified it. Em's first album sounded like Nas he knows it and so does any other real rap fan. It's no where near the end for either of them though, I smell a battle rap brewing!!!!!!!!

  • Nas is "better", eh. Cause his back catalog is so great? Last banger he had was Ether. Talk about being relevant.

I bump Rakim for 10 year olds, and they want me to play it back. THAT'S relevance and longevity. Nas doesn't have the catalog Rakim has.

  • @jallenundat Ether wasn't even at any level where Rakim's joints were...but I mean Rakim's joints up to this haven't been up to par, but he's an old rapper...you just have to take it as it is..

  • and I'm not disrespecting him, but Rakim is just a smart rapper...Nas comes off as being an upstart, but grew to be if not smarter than Rakimg...just more clever...you can't hold that against him...he's pretty good. he's had some wack albums, but I think Rakim's had some bad direction these days with bitch ass niggas like Dre who know nothin about Rakim and his artistic creativity.

  • @MPCHustle Excellent response! And I agree about Dre. He could have had been rolling in money and critical acclaim. The NWA reunion, Detox, losing Royce, and Rakim? He's always been overrated in my eyes, lyrically speaking. His producing was top notch, but he screws up way too much.

Rakim's production on his last album was mediocre at best. Lyric for lyric, though, he surpasses Nas, which I have NO right to say. When NAS came out, we were all like "this is the next gen R."

  • LUV DIS OG MAN

  • @aftermathkayg the interviewer brought it up and he answered it honestly...I'm a way bigger Nas fan than Rakim, but I do think Nas should've given him a heads up about it. It's just a matter of principle like he said and there is no real beef. Nas did the song from his heart, but he did release a lot of new personal info and some people aren't as comfortable about that. There is no real negativity from him anyway to Nas.

  • thumbs up if you think rakim got baked as fuck before this interview

  • God Rakim + Illmatic Nas = Fat Combination

  • @T0nyParker thats fucking trill

  • Comment removed

  • he looks like a raccoon

  • @fadeout2135 look up classic with rakim and nas and kanye and premier and krs one its awesome

  • Rakim is a legend.

  • 4 u dummies trying to clown Rakim really don't know hip hop period. He was speaking about how Nas put his biz out there without at least asking him if it was o.k. which he didn't. That's what men do before doing it. Seek that persons blessing to see if they cool with it first.

  • @aftermathkayg He's only talking about it cus they asked him about it. I think he's mature enough to realize everything you said in your comment.

  • I bet Nas is like fuck , i wasted my time giving this grumpy old bastard his props.

  • @FLOOD504 lol

  • @FLOOD504 for real thats how i would feel, if i was to spend all my time writing a whole track about a man that isn't my father or brother then he turn around and acts like a bitch about it i would be like wtf?

  • co to kurrrr ma byc wpisuje nas i wyskakuje to gowno.. gdzie jest nagly atak spawacza??

  • This guy is boring. I could listen to tupac talk all day and not fall asleep.

  • @slicksottia I could listen Ra breathing and not saying a word all day and not fall asleep...

  • GO CHECK OUT LECRAE! JAY-Z TRIED TO SIGN HIM BUT LECRAE TURNED HIM DOWN BECAUSE LECRAE DOESNT CARE ABOUT MONEY. LECRAE IS THE REALIST. /watch?v=7RWEllqh5J0

  • @iMusicPromoter sick

  • @iMusicPromoter i actually heard a couple tracks from him, christian rap right? he was actually good

  • @iMusicPromoter He didn't turn it down because he doesn't care about money. Nobody turns down millions of dollars for the fuck of it. If he did that he's mad stupid. He could have supported his family and been good.

  • @fadeout2135 Classic - Kanye W, Nas, Rakim, KRS-one???

  • @MillionAirL take kanye out, and you have a classic

    kanye is a pop star.

  • @thejokerceso But he will still murrrrrrder most mc's who clame to be hip hop. He's successful and that makes him pop so be it,but he will kill most rappers out.

  • Rakim needs to fall back, he is old and needs to retire like George Foreman.

  • we love u rakim. killuminati

  • @Sirgreaseflick

This. Not everyone likes the publicity, Rakim is one of them. That's the point Rakim was getting at, even if he was a legend he probably doesn't want to put his family through the crazy lifestyles that celebrities get.

  • @fadeout2135 listen to ny state of mind 3 with alicia keys nas and rakim.

  • @aftermathkayg true dat!! could this be a reason as to why nas isnt making the bio of krs1?

  • yeah yeah its mr. coolman

  • Handsome dude....God created beauty--tight skin and sharp face, god is Great!....

  • Rakim ..... Man I am needin you to put the Ali Song out. Show these Lil waynes what REAL hip hop is ...

  • rakim is the real deal.

  • Rappers take note! THIS IS WHAT AN MC IS

And who said you couldn't have lyrics AND swag?

Rakim had it all, the total package.

So fuk outta here with these lame excuses of why you can't be lyrical no more and you gotta have swag and money to be a nice rapper.

Just a pathetic reason to accept mediocrity and the dumbed down ignorant mentality in our society.

    *Follow @ ma_THT

  • @ghiblix2 hmm good point if it goes to sounds quality. BUT - not only album quality is important but concept, lirycs, flo, technic. Ra has got everything!!! Tehcnically Ra takes over above Nas, lirycally? We can discuss..In my opinion these two's are dope as fuck and obviously top5 in rap history. I'd add too Big Daddy Kool G Rap and Biggie.

  • @ghiblix2 of coruse Rakim is better and much better.... Nas did basically 2-3 classics album and Ra did 4?

  • @sandroeleven He's 15. propz to him for understanding hip-hop at its purest form. Why should he be listening to Wayne. I commend him for not listening to hip-pop maintstream commercial coperate bullshit.

If you value hip-hop you wouldn't be making comments like that.

  • @jonnydines Yeah man im 13 right here but Rakim is one of my all time favorites when my brother turned me onto hip-hop Rakim really stood out.

  • these 2 even got a track? ive heard unauthorized biography, never heard a trach though

  • @foof505 classic.......thats the song its nas rakim kanye and krs 1

  • @sandroeleven No :D I hate mainstream. I love rap of the 80s and 90s =)

  • Rakim is like Michael Jordan...yeah, he may have stepped outta bounds but because he's Jordan...he gets LOVE....ALWAYS...because of what he's done for the game!

  • whats the song in the end??

  • crazy rap mix...watch?v=VrHzu6ELrtQ

  • I swear, black people will never stop hating on each other...even these sanctimonious "conscious" ones...

  • SEND A RESPONSE AND WE WILL PROMOTE

  • Rakim Allah- elevated the bench mark so high in the 80's ..I think very few if ANY have reached his level of insight since. Only Nas has come near- but most artist now are influenced by record sales and not reaching the streets. I'd like to see a Rakim / G rap calabo for old time sakes!

  • @Hallucinator88 rakim is a true poet, dont forget GURU RIP, he never sold out to coporate publicity and greed.

  • @Hallucinator88 Throw in there Big Daddy Kane and Slick Rick and you will get a sick collabo :-)

  • yo i've never seen Rakim smile before... like this dude never cracked a smile.....

  • both rakim and nas are really good rappers!

  • how old is rakiM?

  • This man will FOREVER be LOVED and RESPECTED.....HE EARNED THAT

  • @MOCHAMILAN respect ;)

  • Rakim should make an album about him, called Ali.

  • me and STEVEN MARLEY is workin on a joint right now

  • It's all about that knowledge drop style of rap man..... 3rd religion 7=Perfection Peace

  • En'less respeck!

  • WTF WHY IF I PUT RAKIM ON YOUTUBE SEARCH I GET RAKIM & KEN Y VIDEOS!

  • @LuShiitox those guys are shameless...he must be from saturn or something to not know he committed a major fuck up by taking the god´s name in vain...

  • he's the best in nyc better than j. its obv that prodigy trys to sound like rakim lol

  • keep ur head ra but kill dat eli jersey shit look like a retro video from 98

  • Rakim was and still is one of the best that has ever done it, along with the likes of Kool G Rap, Chuck D, KRS-1, Chub Rock and a host of many others. Today's artist such as The Jay-Zs, Nas, Big, 2 PAC, Big L, Big Pun, Grand Puba are the last of the real hip hop era. All these newer artist, are just fly by night rappers. Some are good but not to many of them are going to be talked about as changing anything. Back in the days there were stories being told about the things going on around us. Las

  • @Pnobronx

So Eminem hasn't changed anything and nobody will be talking about him the future? Pretty big omission on your part.

  • Get : “The All Seeing Ty” the Hottest RAP Album to come out of NY in years. You love “The All Seeing Ty” available now on itunes, and amazon.com Buy Now!!! RIGHT!!!

Supa-Ty the best lyricist since Rah

  • haha what the fuck happened with his voice at 4:23

  • THANK YOU! Mah dude Rakim, you are not alone as far as that Nas situation, cause business, and personal are not the same thing....

  • Nobody giveah fuck about yall favored rappers Dam..

  • Rakim looking like Earthworm Jim. Could this nigga look and act anymore stereotypical; ignorant ass negro.

  • These corny ass, homosexual, so-called "emcees" like: Lil Wayne, Drake, Soulja Boy, Gucci Mane, Wocka Flocka, Lil Boosie, etc. had no chance to stand against Rakim Allah! They couldn't survive against: KRS-One, M.C. Lyte, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, Kool Moe Dee, Miss Melody, Roxanne Shante, Just Ice, Houdini, and all those real emcees that I didn't name. Real emcess today are like panda bears in China, they're close to extinction!

  • @TheWackyWorldofO LOL kool moe dee has not put out an album in like almost 20 years, rakim just put out an album after a 12 year hiatus. I Mean phuk really? get off these guys & chicks dicks. I Mean really? Don`t talk shit on those guys u named, lil wayne is the best rapper alive, drake is nice too, soulja boy, waka flocka flame, gucci, and so on make banging music, its not meant o be lyrical. if u recall disco rap was far from lyrical, just fun party music. so jump off their dicks.

  • @TheWackyWorldofO Jay-z, common, lil wayne, drake, Pharoahe Monch, Tonedeff, and so on could murder most of the 80`s emcees. only about two emcees from the 80`s still drop good stuff, and thats g rap and masta ace. I`m no denying rakim is an originator, but he is outdated, and meh now.

  • @WeezyHOVaUryu1994 I don't think it'll be smart for me to debate with someone who isn't old enough to have a driver's license, about music. What you're saying is almost like saying that Dwayne Wade, Lebron James, & Carmelo Anthony are better ball players than Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, & Michael Jordan and anyone with 1/4 of a brain would know that is not true. You wasn't even around when these guys were rapping & probably wouldn't even know who they are now if it wasn't for youtube.

  • @TheWackyWorldofO my age is irrelvant. if that mattered then u would have be at least 30 something to have an opinion. u must bring up age of course, proves u have no real arguement. Also i`m some of the modern basketball players could slaughter the old skool players.

  • @WeezyHOVaUryu1994 Your age is relevant b/c you've never experienced real hip hop which is why it doesn't make any sense for me to debate with you. Of course you're going to say that Dwayne Carter is the greatest rapper alive b/c you haven't grown up on Naughty By Nature, Public Enemy, Chub Rock, & D-Nice, you only grew up on Dwayne Carter so you have no other choice but to hop on the Dwayne Carter bandwagon.

  • @WeezyHOVaUryu1994 When it comes to skills & talent none of the skinny jean wearing guys you mentioned can come up against Chuck D or Miss Melody. If rappers of today are so better than rappers of the past, how come rappers today sample so much stuff from rappers of the past?

  • @TheWackyWorldofO thats like saying why does kanye west sample rock music or something, it could be cause they like the music. Stop with ur real hip hop this and that, I used to be a weezy hater, and screaming real hip hop, but then I Actually realized how dope he was when i really listened to him.

  • @WeezyHOVaUryu1994 ya blo kid.

  • @WeezyHOVaUryu1994 So your answer to the question is, "because they like music"............this is why I usually don't debate with children about this topic b/c their lack of experience cause them to say unintelligent statements like this. If new school rap artists were so better than the old school, they wouldn't use lyrics from old school artists and incorporating it to their music. It's like saying that you're better than someone that you're copying, why copy that person if you're better?

  • @WeezyHOVaUryu1994 One example of this is the whole Nicki Minaj/Lil Kim situation, Nicki Minaj is just a carbon copy of Lil Kim. Kim was the first female rapper to wear the colorful wigs/weaves, the first sexually explicit female rapper, and also the first one to be full of plastic surgery. Nicki Minaj copied that whole style but has the nerve to say the she is better than Lil Kim. You won't copy someone if you think you're better than them.

  • @TheWackyWorldofO Of course rakim influenced people, but that does not make him better. Rakim influenced Jay-z, but hov is far better.

  • @WeezyHOVaUryu1994 Jay-Z will never be better than Rakim, you're talking about a rapper that copies lyrics from: Tupac, Biggie Smalls, & Snoop dogg. How can he be better than Rakim?

  • @WeezyHOVaUryu1994 So in conclusion I don't debate with babies, once you get your high school diploma then you'll probably earn enough credit to debate with adults.

  • @WeezyHOVaUryu1994 4 of those emcees you named r dope to super dope (jay mostly from 95/96-03 as the Black Album was his last all around solid album 2 me). Common, Pharoahe Monch/Tonedeff (those last 2 CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED, PM for 20 years, tondeff for the last decade have ALWAYS been in my top 7-10 emcees), but 4 u 2 put LIL WAYNE/DRAKE in the same sentence as those other 4 makes ZERO SENSE & shows your age. Had u said Diabolic, Elzhi, Louis Logic, Juice, One Be Lo, Percee-P, Black Thought

  • @WeezyHOVaUryu1994 Kool G Rap, Blackstarr, Masta Ace, Copywrite, Apathy, Brother Ali, Blu, RA the Rugged Man, Rhyme Asylum, Crooked I (And the rest of Slaughterhouse), Nas, Em, Cunnin Lynguists, Andre 3000, Jadakiss, Sly Boogie, Slug, Lowkey, Chino Xl, Immortal Tech, Big Pun, Big L, etc etc then maybe you'd have a POSSIBLE argument, but Lil Wayne/Drake? They're not in my top 100

  • If you don't know the IMPACT that Rakim has on Hip Hop, ask Jay Z, Nas or 50 Cent "My favorite rapper use to say check out my melody" from Hate It Or Love It. Rakim was the first rap artist to use complete and complex sentence structures and coined the phrase "I Ain't No Joke". Half the planet uses it today.

  • MAN FUCK NAS BITCH ASS.... RAKIM IS A GOD..... end of story kids.

  • I'd have less to say if you said Jay Z surpassed Rakim. But even then, Rakim was about the critical acclaim for the storytelling, not record sales.

  • honestly rakim being who he is ....whatever no one takes away what he did in his time...but you wanna compare lyrically rakim isnt touching nas....nas can say what he wants....

  • Damn I have so much respect for Rakim. I'm 15 years old and I'm sittin here and listen to em' magnetized like he's a god :D
