Its pretty obvious that the opium trade is run by governments and powerful drug lords. However, even if you are simply carrying a sackful over the border, or guarding a stash for the cartels you are prosecuted for the one-size fits all crime of being a drug dealer. The same applies in the UK and it is so blatently inneffective its an insult to our democracy, unethical and counter-productive. Even though it was legal to grow poppy pre2001, after it became illegal production more than doubled.

@RAAZ11 Thank you. I always see people commenting saying they went to control the opium trade because the taliban outlawed it. They went because of oil plain and simple.  There was already a shit load of oil there, now as I said 1.8 billion barrels.

There plan was to withdraw in 2011, but now I see on the news the US government is saying that date is not set in stone. So we will see. I wish for peace in your country, war, famine, droughts, etc. it has been ill for around 30 years.
