  • @TheDarkMinister Are you from another country or were you drunk when you typed that? If you want to see the full potential of the 4.6 you race the DOHC. Even then its not on equal terms due to the relatively large displacement. Chevy guys are crazy sometimes. Knowing we weigh almost the same.. knowing the rules of displacement... you expect a different outcome. and I know an l98 should be getting a run for its money PI mustangs

And about the DOHC... isn't it like a special deal for the cobra?.. just another modular engine used even in lincolns but without the sc an stuff. I know I would't have a chance as for my car is mostly stock but hey.. nothing special. And I tough mustangs were lighter?.. specially the fox body

  • @TheDarkMinister They wanted no part of the L98s. The L69 5.0 HOs did well with comparable year Mustangs as well. The TPI 305 held it's own and was even ahead in some cases (g92 options). Shhhh..be careful though, they get all butthurt if someone challenges their beloved "five point oh" (4.9)

    It's hilarious how they ignore that Ford admitted to overrating their HP outputs....They were not 225, but 205.

  • @dangerdean28 Your friends are clueless. Its as simple as doing a simple engine swap... and I'm not talking about 4.6 either... There are plenty of 5.4 3v and 4v waiting to be plucked... Trade in the 2v engine and use that money to go to a 5.4 3v or 4v... and the get the engine at the price of two bolts on at best. Bore the block and a set of performance (ported heads) and you'll be saying ls what?

  • nice touch elaztecapecador... turning your headlights on so no one can mock you for your winking headlights... just a guess but i think your plastic headlight gear is stripped on one side so one light stays up with them off " can get new alum ones off ebay" just a guess on my part but it is a common prob... and who would run with them on in daylight

  • @JPARKERZ28, yeah the plastic gears were already messed up when I got the car. I bought new ones like 3 years ago and they seem like they're working fine. Also, it was almost getting dark. It looks different in the video.

  • @elaztecapecador I bought brass gears for mine, and it has never messed up since they were installed.

  • @elaztecapecador I'm very late to the party, but if you unhook the actuator arm fromt he headlight you can use the manual twist on the headlight motor, turn it 180 degrees and use the unstripped side of the plastic gear. The headlight motor only ever uses half the gear, and when one side goes bad simply use the other. It's a free 5 minute fix, and VERY simple.

  • wow i can't be the only one that noticed this... but it looks like the mustang has an open rear diff... watch the first burnout i only see 1 black stripe... i have 2 f-bodys myself and would shit on most fords but this wasn't much of a race love the ford vrs chevy haten though!!!

  • Its a 1997 WS6 I have the same exact one but its white whith a Golen LT1- LT4 383 stroker conversion.

  • pontiac has not been a real pontiac since mid to late 70`s . they have been using quote gm corporate engines . so therefore not much difference between camaro & firebird whatever the designation . bodystyle biggest difference . I SOLD a 71 comet last year that ran 10.5 , cost for everthing $ 6500.00 .

  • @crownv80 I agree sort of. 1981 was the last year for the Pontiac blue block, but the truth is that the tooling for the engine was too old, the design was not as good as the Chev small block, and it would have cost too much to build a new block. GM wouldn't let Pontiac go back to the 400 because it was too big. Don't knock the LT1/LS1 T/As, they are beautiful cars and the best, fastest Pontiacs ever.

  • does 383 stroker mean anything to anyone. Thats no where near the stock transam engine. Stock 5.7 engine is a 350 lt1 stock for stock a 5.0 would actually probaly be a decent race. No way the trans am would have pulled him that bad. Both nice cars tho.

  • Dude, I don't hear no cam in that LT1. Who strokes without a cam install? A LT1will put 5 or 6 lengths on a 5.0 in the quarter stock any day of the week. 5.0...225 horse, LT1 275 to 285 horse. No way that is a decent race. 383 would just run away and hide from a 5.0. Not arguing...just stating.

  • you are crazy!!! Have you watched videos or seen races in real life of stock lt1's vs stock 5.0's. All of them are close races. You gotta factor in the weight. Its not all about horsepower. its about horsepower to weight, gear ratios how they hook up, theres alot more factors in racing then just horsepower. And a stock 5.0 vs a lt1 trans am is usually a good race. Lt1s are not that quick, i owned one. now ls1s that would walk a stock 5.0 all day.

  • I don't need to watch a video. I watch my rear view mirror everytime a 5.0 lol wants some. My sister has a 93 5.0 LX Mustang because she just loves Mustangs. My other sis had a 94 GT 5.0 Those things were terrible slow. I know a little someting about a 5.0 and a whole lot about a LT1. I know all about gear ratios, weight, blah blah blah. I said stock vs. stock. Anytime a 5.0 or whatever wants to line up with this LT1 then..hey...I am all for that. 11.20 119 mph all day all motor.

If your car really really runs 11.20 im not even gonna say my 5.0 can beat you cause it prob wont run that fast but i know of about 30 mustangs in the north texas mustang club that would blow the doors off your trans am. i raced plenty of ls1s with my lt1 and always got beat by at least three car lengths. im not saying Lt1s arent good motors but stock ls1 cars make more power and weigh less. enough said.

  • WS9 TA is not a Camaro. I don't think I can beat anything on the road. Matter of fact I don't race much anymore. I will however speak my opinion when someone says a stock 5.0 will run with a stock LT1. 11.20 is quick but I have quicker so I am not saying an LT1 is a giant killer but numbers don't lie. This WS9 was a factory freak 13.55 car ALL stock to start with. I just hit the right set up on the TA with what was done to it and it runs pretty dern good now. Have a good one.

    yea ws6 did exist in the late 70's and through the 80's some years, but then it was just perofmrance suspension.

    on 96-97 LT1 cars (it was also available on the 98-02 LS1 cars) it was an option that included performance suspension AND ram air.

    Not all 96-97 v8's had it, it was an option on both formulas and Trans ams.

    If it's a 95 he just slapped a ram air hood on it. It's not a firehawk (which actually did have ram air 93-97)

  • ws6 package didnt start till 96 could however be a firehawk they did have them in 95 but i'm not sure if was offered on trans am's

  • The T/A is either a non WS6 or it is a 96-97. The WS6 option did not come out until 96 on the 4th gen cars. Still a good run.

  • Actually,the WS6 option was first available in 1978 as a suspension option. It was a suspension option in the 80's also but with the 4th gens it was a more total performance option with the ram air included.

  • @elaztecapecador ws6 is just the suspension upgrade not really anything to do with horsepower, the slp lid and cold intake are the only thing i see and of course exhaust .

  • actually, the ws6 is just the code for the suspension package used, the ws6's can be traced to the third gen with the ws6 performance suspension. its on the package list for my 86 trans am. they didn't become known as a ws6 until 96-97 when they started to badge them that way.

  • @twp35 the WS-6 option has been around since the second gen, the first gen trans am was only built for one year. I drive a 1984 Trans Am WS-6 on a regular basis, The car handles like a dream, granted the RAM Air was was not available, back in the days if the second and third gen the WS-6 package was suspension and breaking upgrades. As a point of fact the 1977 trans am in the Smokey and the Bandit movie was a 1977 Trans Am SE with the WS-6 package.

  • Back in the early 80's, I had a friend there in Greybull with a blue 69' ram air firebird.....during "days of '49" celebrations cars would come from all over to race at that very spot your at. His bird took them down one at a time...every time. Its good to see someone trying to keep that alive.

    Another great place to race was up "airport hill" and of course the timed night runs up shell canyon.

  • One guy with a Two way or CB at shell falls and one at the top of the canyon where that turn out is to what ever campground that is (aspen something or other I think). Guy at the bottom radios with the start, top guy times the run. Race at night so you can see lights of oncoming vehicles...use all three lanes.

  • If you live in the Greybull area, you know shell canyon. 2 Two way radio or CB's, one guy at shell falls, the other at the top of the canyon at that turn of going to what ever camp ground that was (aspen medows or something). Race at night so you can see the lights of oncoming cars when going through the outside turns. Use all three lanes...

    Guy at the falls calls the start over the radio, top guy calls the times.

  • I've been thinking....it was much lower than the falls. There was a turn out right after entering the canyon...shadey and rather close to the river, about a half mile before the road goes from two to three lanes. We started there...

  • I know you said you bought the car this way. Have you ever taken it to the dyno? I really think you should, because something isnt right. That car barely gets out of the hole fast, after watching that vid of you racing the talon. My buddy has a 94 firebird formula with a 383 stroker and it moves much faster than that.

  • I will have to look into that this coming summer. Right now I don't have the money or time, college is getting in the way. But you're right, there is something wrong with the car. Maybe a good tune would do the trick. Also, I think I may have to rebuild the engine.

  • That would be no good if you have to rebuild the engine.  A good tune is probably all it needs. Many LT1s have ignition problems, usually something to do with the optispark. My buddy had a similar problem with his.

  • when you guys pass the camera man you look like your only doing like 90... My friends 00 trans am would be doing 145 in the quarter and has a top speed of 220 something because the bike we were racing didnt go over 220.
