The real deal maker/breaker will be the price. If you wait and its at least half the price of a ps2 it might be a good deal. hopefully a little less since it doesnt come with a control and its just a box.
P.s any ps3 can play ps1 games. Its the ps2 thats different.

Also, PS2 is the number 1 selling console right now, & they don't want to loose their spot, so I think that's why PS3 doesn't have backwards compatibility.
I'm pretty sure when the PS2 finally dies out (long time) PS3 will probably get backwards compatibility. That or when competitors get better than it, highly doubt it though.

Well I actually agree with you, but I have reasons for them.
I think they offered 80GB because they still had some in stock & they wanted to sell the few lasts console left and make the Slim their primary console
Also, PS3 doesn't offer Backwards Compatibility, probably because PS2 is still selling like crazy! If they put Backward Compatibility, no one will buy a PS2, meaning it will no longer be the best selling console
These are my reasons, not Sony's, but I think this is why Sony did this.

In my opinion, Sony did awesome with the Slim. I used to have a "fat" and it was loud and overheated a lot so I got the Slim and it doesn't overheat ever and it is wayyyyy more quiet. Plus I just don't really like the design on the fat. It's UGLY.

1. Infact, Valve dropped the support for PS3 after Orange Box was released by EA due to the coding having been difficult and the system having not sold enough Orange Box after the hard work.

I did, I never claimed it won't be superior. I just know Valve USED to have problems with coding on the PS3 and therefore hired EA to port the Orange Box on the PS3 which was ported poorly & therefore Valve got sick of PS3 -> Left 4 Deads aren't on PS3 for example.
But now that they've found a decent crew, they can make games on PS3 so that they'll sell better -> so that they can profit as well from them and therefore Portal 2 is coming on PS3. Understood? :) Good.

@chroniczaaa really? name ONE device that has at least half of the capabilites kinect has? eye toy, dreameye and other augumented reality eye cams get raped by kinect, they dont have facial and voice recongization and the eyetoy doesnt scan your body and objects to be projected into the game, its only a webcam that you can use to play. kinect can also be used as a headset with a mic input and output and can video chat with people, not only that, its also as voice activated remote for movies
1. You're wrong, Xbox 360 Slim isn't going to be at the pricepoint of 199$.
2. All 3 are great consoles.

the 2nd gen 80gb which is the last model to support backward compatiblty.. has the ps2 gpu and the cell emulates the ps2 cpu called the emotion engine.. ps3 slim doesnt gave the ps2 gpu at all... so BC is completlt gone
I have a ps3 slim 120gb and I have to say if I had known prior to the purchase that the fat boy ps3's were backwards compatible with the ps2 and the slim isn't I would have taken the 80gb over the 120gb just for the backwards compatibility. I guess they're trying to generate revenue for new ps3 games, because people were just playing their library of ps2 games, instead of buying new games.
You don't mention is that a fat PS3 uses 160w of electricity while in full operation, and the new hardware (2nd) revision of the slim version uses somewhere in the low 70w's. THAT, my friend, is a huge power saving. Also, despite this, some folks prefer the design of the fat (I don't know why, it's ugly to me) so Sony had zero problems shifting the last stock of fats...so you were clearly wrong on the "sitting on shelves" point. The slim makes a profit, too, so Sony ARE back in the black.

I've had all three systems the old PS3, the slim, and the 360 elite. To me the slim is the best system because it is quieter, lighter, and cooler. The only bad thing about the slim is not being able to play PS2 games. Other then that it is actually faster then my old 60GB because it doesn't overheat.
As for the 360 it's good but you to pay to be online. There are some good things about the 360 but to me the PS is just a better deal now.

Can't you see??? You spend some money (x) for PS3. Some man spend money on Xbox 360 (y). x > y (PS3 is more expensive). After 5 motns: The PS3 is like new and Xbox 360 is broken. So??? You need buy new xbox (2x y). Than x< 2y. You pay more but you dont have to rapier or buy new console for 3-4 or more years.

I've been reading the comments and you guys are either hating the PS3 or hating this guy.
First off, watch the damn video and you'll know he's not bashing the PS3, just the mistake the Sales department made. Even me, a Sony Supporter agrees about what he said. Sony did make a stupid mistake with that, but I gave my response on that in the previous comments.

But me I play video games a little more than I should and I know that other people who also play as many games as I do were dissapointed with "NO BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY"

@Andonn360 I agree, but think about it like this. If the PS3 had backwards compatibility, PS2 will stop selling. Sony is still making a lot of money from the PS2. Also, PS2 is the number 1 selling console right now, & they don't want to loose their spot, so I think that's why PS3 doesn't have backwards compatibility.
I'm pretty sure when the PS2 finally dies out (long time) PS3 will probably get backwards compatibility. That or when competitors get better than it, highly doubt it though.

Also I have the 250GB and guess what....No HDMI, 1 controller, No game, No Mic, nothing at all. SONY FAILS! There's no getting around that. @Andonn360 Did you even read what I said!? PS2 is the best selling console ever made, and I don't think Sony wants it to loose against the DS! That's why they want to keep it alive so their reputation with the PS2 will stay alive. Also, maybe only in America PS2's aren't selling much, but in other countries, but PS2 sells a lot, because it's only a $100 console with the best damn game library out there! Plus the games are $20, $30 at most!
But I agree, Sony should have offered Mic. and HDMI.

You should have bought the 80gb if u wanted backwards compatability, and used the money left over to buy hdmi, controller, game, w/e you wanted, Idk why you would need more than 80gb to play games, unless you are using your ps3 as some sort of storage device because you dont have a computer.

Well I actually agree with you, but I have reasons for them.
I think they offered 80GB because they still had some in stock & they wanted to sell the few lasts console left and make the Slim their primary console
Also, PS3 doesn't offer Backwards Compatibility, probably because PS2 is still selling like crazy! If they put Backward Compatibility, no one will buy a PS2, meaning it will no longer be the best selling console
These are my reasons, not Sony's, but I think this is why Sony did this.

I bought a 250gb ps3 slim and love it. It is much smaller and wieghs less. It does freeze once in a while but only when I play tiger woods 2010 lol.

In my opinion, Sony did awesome with the Slim. I used to have a "fat" and it was loud and overheated a lot so I got the Slim and it doesn't overheat ever and it is wayyyyy more quiet. Plus I just don't really like the design on the fat. It's UGLY.

I wonder if you haven't realized that the Slim costs less to produce than the older one and therefore Sony loses less money every system sold now (about 30 dollars each unit as of the beginning of 2010) and gains money every bundle & first party game sold on the system and therefore actually gaining ground.

1. Infact, Valve dropped the support for PS3 after Orange Box was released by EA due to the coding having been difficult and the system having not sold enough Orange Box after the hard work.
2. Ubisoft's threath was bogus, it never really happened. There were threats but they never went far enough to make it "official."
3. Activision threathened them just because they don't earn billions every game. Money greedy publisher.

I did, I never claimed it won't be superior. I just know Valve USED to have problems with coding on the PS3 and therefore hired EA to port the Orange Box on the PS3 which was ported poorly & therefore Valve got sick of PS3 -> Left 4 Deads aren't on PS3 for example.
But now that they've found a decent crew, they can make games on PS3 so that they'll sell better -> so that they can profit as well from them and therefore Portal 2 is coming on PS3. Understood? :) Good.

@19guitarhero94 I agree all 3 systems are good but your wrong on 2 things. first the new Xbox 360 is $299 not $199. second the world wide system sales are this: number 1 selling system, the DS with over 130 million units sold then the Wii at 70 million, 360 at 40 mil, PS3 at 36 mil
yes the PS3 has sold the least but the numbers show that the Xbox (came out a 1 1/2 years before PS3) has only sold 4 million more units then PS3 thats not double. Wii is close to selling double on both 360 & PS3

@chroniczaaa really? name ONE device that has at least half of the capabilites kinect has? eye toy, dreameye and other augumented reality eye cams get raped by kinect, they dont have facial and voice recongization and the eyetoy doesnt scan your body and objects to be projected into the game, its only a webcam that you can use to play. kinect can also be used as a headset with a mic input and output and can video chat with people, not only that, its also as voice activated remote for movies

1. You're wrong, Xbox 360 Slim isn't going to be at the pricepoint of 199$.
2. All 3 are great consoles.
3. What does sales in total matter? Xbox 360 has been out for 11 months longer than PS3 in Japan & North US, while 15 months in comparison with the release date of PS3 and Xbox 360 in Europe. What really matters in sales is what the systems sell weekly now, where PS3 is leading the Xbox 360. The gap is tightening.

the 2nd gen 80gb which is the last model to support backward compatiblty.. has the ps2 gpu and the cell emulates the ps2 cpu called the emotion engine.. ps3 slim doesnt gave the ps2 gpu at all... so BC is completlt gone

I have a ps3 slim 120gb and I have to say if I had known prior to the purchase that the fat boy ps3's were backwards compatible with the ps2 and the slim isn't I would have taken the 80gb over the 120gb just for the backwards compatibility. I guess they're trying to generate revenue for new ps3 games, because people were just playing their library of ps2 games, instead of buying new games.

You don't mention is that a fat PS3 uses 160w of electricity while in full operation, and the new hardware (2nd) revision of the slim version uses somewhere in the low 70w's. THAT, my friend, is a huge power saving. Also, despite this, some folks prefer the design of the fat (I don't know why, it's ugly to me) so Sony had zero problems shifting the last stock of fats...so you were clearly wrong on the "sitting on shelves" point. The slim makes a profit, too, so Sony ARE back in the black.

I believe that they can create a PS2 hardware emulator in a patch sometime in the future for backwards compatibility. On top of that, the PS3 can accept any standard laptop HDD.

I would like to admit one thing ( im a prick ) because..... i bought the 360 and guess what 6 months later it red ringed . so i went a long time without a console because i couldn't afford the ps3. well sorry xbox fans but my 3rd 360 died last week when i opened it up inside theres a sticker inside that says it was repaired january 09 for the same fault and i had it 4 months....so sorry xbox fans but my ps3 is coming monday and i doubt i'll ever buy an xbox again....this prick has wised up.

2: PSN is free (for now)
3: Blu-ray, seeing that DVD is being forced off the shelves I might as well give into it.
4: The PS3 uses a REAL HDD, I can get a small laptop HDD for it, for cheaper then the xbox's HDD that is only useful on a xbox]
5: The PS3's blutooth abilities
6: Very Good Exclusives to rival Wii & 360.

I've had all three systems the old PS3, the slim, and the 360 elite. To me the slim is the best system because it is quieter, lighter, and cooler. The only bad thing about the slim is not being able to play PS2 games. Other then that it is actually faster then my old 60GB because it doesn't overheat.
As for the 360 it's good but you to pay to be online. There are some good things about the 360 but to me the PS is just a better deal now.
