  • wow, dave's comments; sort of arbitrary.

  • Saw this Legend in Thunder Bay, Ontario in 1990 !

    Still have the shirt !

  • lol at 2:57 he drops the slide

  • in 1991 sept he came on stage in striped beach trousers and sleepers at first glance he looked liked an old hippie remaining straight from Woodstock,or a bit eccentric millonaire from Hawaii beach. He played supersonic all the way,as he ended his solos each time awesome applause as on a jazz concert.Crowd shouted full throat all the way.The sound quality crystal clear as 1000 cd players in full power.Greatest and unforgettable musical experience in my life.

  • Is he singing live for this tour?

  • A True Blues Living Legend, Nothing Else Can Be Said.

  • The old boy can kick some ass!!!!!!!

  • Yeah, I had reservations about a second guitar with JW. But Paul is growing on me. He has a list of session work longer than my leg, been to Berklee and plays very well.

  • And... Rolling Stone can kiss my ass.... 74th out of 100??? Really?

  • @26095 those guys at RS do no understand music at all if JW is 74th.

  • @xkecoupe Brian Setzer, Eric Johnson, Ted Nugent....Rolling Stone underground.....NEVER!! You must be thinking of Cream Magazine....Anyone remember Cream??

  • @graybeard420 I do.

  • @26095 - Rolling Stone used to be a cool underground newspaper (I remember those days well. In fact they even "discovered" Johnny in late '68), but for the last 30 years they've just been a crappy superficial teenage gossip mag. I gave that rag up for good when they put that skank Madonna on the cover in '82. Yecch! Johnny is #1 NOW AND FOREVER!!!

  • @Bopalena yeah!

  • god bless johnny

  • That second guitarist smokes! Awesome!

  • @welcome2myhell That 2nd guitarist is Paul Nelson. One of the nicest men you will ever meet. He helped Johnny get away from that monster Teddy Slatus and get healthy again. Without Paul we would not have the great JDW III in his present state of greatness once again. He literally saved Johnnys' life and career. God Bless PaulNelson.

  • @KingBeeFL I second that

  • @KingBeeFL I've met Paul! He lives next door to a customer of mine. And yes, he is a great guy, very down-to-earth, generous and no airs about him at all. Completely agree, without Paul, Johnny would have been dead by now.

  • @KingBeeFL who's teddy slatus? a bad manager johnny had? a guy who supplied him drugs? i know john used to have a heroin habit; but i thought that was many years ago. and he seems to smart and getting a little too old for hard drugs, today.

  • @1skullduggery Teddy was JWs' long time manager that JW was way too loyal to and who knew that and took advantage of JWs' loyalty. He was an alchoholic and drug abuser who kept Johnny in the dark and didn't help Johnny with his problems, so as to keep JW needing Teddys help. JW has overcome anxiety problems and a few physical difficulties since beating his earlier drug problems. Teddy wouldn't help, karma took care of that, Paul took over. Notice JWs' happiness at end of clip with Dave :)

  • @KingBeeFL 'too' smart, i meant. lol. guess i'm not. lol.

  • Boston Garden 67- 68 Johnny opened for Led Zepplin. In the middle of a song a fight broke out in the lower center seats with " Hells Angels " and Boston Police, and others.

Johnny just slowed it down and watched the action till it was over, then blasted into a solo I will never forget. He is, was, and will be the Greatest !!!!!!

  • Caught this the other night! I am excited to say that Johnny Winter will be at Bull Run Restaurant in Shirley, Massachusetts on Friday, January 27!!!

  • Johnny is one of the finest guitarists I've ever heard and ever known. Talents like his go through life but a few times.

  • Good gracious...Johnny can still play those strings like they're on fire. Continue on in good health cause we can't afford to lose you!!!

  • Check Michael Buffalo Smiths Interview with Johnny Ar universal music Tribe dot com!

  • WOW Johnny. I owe you another smoke out dude. You ROCK. Sling that guitar like you know how.

  • Johnny Winter was one of my main Childhood guitar heroes, and I kept lovin' him all through my adult life. Fortunately my band got to open for him in the 80's. I got to meet him and he was very nice to me. Grew up on Still Alive and Well & Saints and Sinners. He totally influenced my slide playing. Thank you Johnny!

  • JDW III..... An American Icon I have seen him more times than I can remember. Simply the best!

  • Johnny's first time on TV in 30 years.VERY well done, johnny should be invited to ALL the freakin shows....he is a story of awsome talent wrapped in a survivor. He's met satan, kicked his ass and stomped it into the oblivion...came back to us with the purest talent to play blues/rock, anything. He's a TRUE hero of guitar, but also of life...johnny you are appreciated!!

  • look out , baby !

  • Johnny's still playin the blues in 2012 . Nice!

  • A quick JW story. Late 70's at Winterland SF. Johnny blows the doors off, finishes his 3rd encore, jumps in the Limo off to his Hotel. The lights go up and they beg us to leave while they are tearing the set down. Nobody leaves and 30 min later the lights go down the place goes nuts and Johnny comes out and plays 3 more. I will never forget that night. Love this man!

  • @marinergreg great story

  • I love Johnny Winter !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Johnny's in fine form here, great performance!

  • Glad to see him playing and looking great again consideing what he's been through, he's been through some rough times, nice to see him playing the old Firebird also, sounding wicked, one of my all time favourites.

  • One of the all time greats. Still bad ass as ever...

  • yup folks, he's " still alive and well " ! God bless him !

  • Still a bad assed slide man!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Johnny has recorded so much brilliantly blues guitar music that his reputation is untouchable. No one has played so well for so long.

  • And God bless Paul Nelson, who I truly believe saved Johnnys' life.

  • I remember the days of Johnny Winter AND, smokin' guitar shredding, and full tilt boogie goin' on. No one like him. The Master is STILL in the building.

  • At least Dave squeezed Johnny in at the last second after blowing smoke with John McCain for most the show. In his true playing prime (long after the "Pop" years were over), Winter was there with the VERY best. I personally don't rate them, but pegging him at #74 is an insult. He had nights he was good almost beyond belief--but he had bad nights, too when he turned everything up to 10 and you didn't know what he was playing. I agree it's good to see a little weight on ole' J.D. Winter III !

  • @DonARen1950 I stayed tuned in just to see Johnny Dave could only say

"God All Mighty" when he was done He knew he just witnessed greatness

#74 I don't know about that either especially with some of the other 73 before him

Many greats over the years NOW if they were just going for slide no doubt he would be in the top 3 with Lowell George+Bonnie Rait and/or David Lindley...Joe Walsh...hell I can't make up my my either, so I can't blame Rollin Stone. At least they got #1 right with Jimi.

  • This.Is.Awesome.

  • Yeah baby - this is best I have seen him look in a couple years. Rolling Stone ranks him #74? They don't know much about guitar playin I guess.

  • I have the album on which Mike Bloomfield put Johnny on the map, and his complete Woodstock set. He's--and always will be--remarkable.

  • Back? he never went away. Hell yes, Johnny!!!!!!!!

  • Johnny's back, with a vengeance!

  • And Johnny is clean! We love you Johnny!

  • Looking good... Sounding like Johnny, too. 'One of the greats', is a understatement!

  • THE KING of Blues...the best
