  • i didn't know crossing someone on a stairway was a superstition, what is said to happen if someone does?

  • wtf? where is part 2??? PLEASE ANSWER

  • @mopryIScool I am sure it's there you know

  • is that the 10th doctor?

  • saw 2

  • I know how the dart trick was done, Derren used a very common magician prop.

But that is all i will say.

  • Derren Brown is my favorite magician but I think Ive spotted a big flaw in this trick. Notice at 8.52, right after the women throws the dart, the gap between the 9 of clubs and the Queen of hearts, it seems pretty wide, then look at the 2 of spades, it seems that the Queen is in a slightly diagonal angle. Now if you skip to 9:30 you can easily see that the gap between the Queen and the 2 in much bigger. This is not Derren Brown, its a clumsy mistake. It could be the angle who knows...

  • She's a professional darts player, right?

  • Wonder how many people they went through to hit the correct card!?

  • BULLSHIT i like derren but this throw was bullshit

  • Goddamnit i wanna push the button in the intro.

  • They made her say all the 52 cards before throwing the dart in the deck :-)

  • this is like saw

  • This was a little unfair, they were expressly led to believe that they could do things to acquire points, and it is feasible for them to assume that their actions are being observed and points awarded. In real life, superstition has no such plausibility.

  • @tml4873 Just to clarify, I made this comment based on part 1 only. I think they were justified in trying to find a way to get points, but they're not justified in thinking they were successful.

  • LOL I loce the way he says "stupid little fish" XD poor fish

  • isn't their some sort of racist stereotype about scots and gambling machines?

  • 8:25 i was thinking of the queen of hearts too.

    is this normal?

  • @SUPERPERSON9000 For some reason women go for bright colours and "emotional", "positive" symbols like hearts, diamonds flowers etc etc.

So ask a girl think of a playing card at random and it is fairly easy to get it right.

It is likely to be hearts or diamonds. Women are more emotional than fellas !

That's why it works and it does i've done it on several women.

I've not found a girl yet who picks black Spades or Clubs.....

  • @SUPERPERSON9000

Again, suggestion, as usual. 1:58 - "...will form the HEART of...", I didn't catch the queen though. And I think that Derren also used that suggestion on the woman somehow.

  • @sanriver12

No Fucker it's not allowed it's copyright material !!!

  • I thought "B. F. Skinner" as soon as I saw that room

  • Anyone ever thought of how powerful elctro magnetics can be?

  • Cant you see, hes OBVIOUSLY a demon! :p

  • This reminds me of the Saw movies!

  • for tht much money i'd jus break the glass door

  • If you visit Walmart in here in America, people are more like cattle than pigeons. moooo!

  • its not all superstition though its also rationalisation - if you watch what they do its rational thinking - i.e. putting lemons on the yellow circle because its yellow.

  • Haha, the cat meows and everything!

  • She's the one that died on the way home from filming right?

  • Is it just me or does Derrens voice go weird at the dart bit.

  • teehee: Pigeons are to people what people are to Derren Brown. :-p

  • Thanks for the clarification

  • yo how come commented about the super-stitous girl who says what if i die on the way home after breaking the mirror and then she died

  • It was a joke - Derren has a dark sense of humour on occasion sometimes. She is perfectly healthy and alive. Watch the program again it was all about superstition

  • lol

    that's fun :)

  • I bet he did this with 52 women (statistically). Took me a minute to figure it out, but eventually I thought of the scam where he predicts the winning horses xD This was an awesome one... Guess one shouldnt ruin the magic by revealing the trick, but oh well =)

  • avraks, WHY... Would 52 women make any difference.. If there blind folded, playing darts.. and i realise there are 52 cards in a deck.. but. THINK ABOUT IT...

  • Long time since I posted this, but yeah.. There are 52 cards in a deck, and chances are she is going to hit one of the cards. I asume there are only 52 cards on the wall... They choose a card which will have to hit one of 52 cards. 1 in 52 people will hit the card they chose.

Yeah, I realise not everyone hit the wall...

To make people choose one of the cards he's circled, he uses suggestion.

Just a theory, might be wrong;)

  • @avraks

    just a correction

    If she's thinking of a card that's a 1 in 52 chance alone

Now she has to hit the card with the dart which is another 1 in 52 chance

This is all doing so blindfolded which i really can't make the odds for

taking the blindfold out of the occasion and saying she will always hit some card that's a 1 in 2,704 chance that she will hit the correct card.

  • @DAGOxFLIP

Quoting myself: "To make people choose the card he's circled, Derren uses suggestion."

I realise my comment was a little messy, sorry. Think about it though; manipulating subjects to choose a certain card, should be a small feat for Derren.

  • @DAGOxFLIP you're bad at math

  • Comment removed

  • This is hilarious. Lol at David Tennant

  • I needed to keep it random so I employed two stupid fish! brilliant

  • i love david tennant in this !!!

  • when the timer comes up it kinda reminded me of saw

  • Well derren is very rich. And at times plays games with guests, and if he loses they would get 100 pounds or something. And they never win, leaving them sometimes sad (only in the case of that comedian I guess)

But can someone explain the dart thing? It makes NO sense at all. She probably didn't even see the card. Nor prob know where it was on the board. AND even if she knew, most people wouldn't have hit it ANYWAYS.

And now, she hit is spot on without seeing :|..

  • I guessed queen of hearts and said it right before she did lol

  • Awsome, David Tennant from Doctor Who. Derren Brown is amazing with NLP and Psychology. This stuff he does is simply great. I wonder if he is doing shows still.

  • Yes he sure is and they are well worth it too

  • Fucken idiots. He does use his skills for amazing things! you cant mess the human mind to much orelse it can fucken up the participent...there are certain rules he cant break. He is fucken brilliant and can do many things we cant do!

  • derren can control ne1...y isnt he usin his genuis nd knowledge of the human mind 4 greater thngs???

  • Probably because you couldn't really do anything "great" with this kind of skill, unless of course you count helping people with psychological issues, but that is what psychologists are for and there isn't exactly a shortage of them.

  • not exactly..he nos how the human mind works nd is capable of manipulating peoples minds nd make them believe watever he wants, if ya saw d episode wer he buys d expensive plain pieces of paper makn d shop keeper believe itz money ul no wat i mean

  • I actually have seen that episode ^^ I'm quite a big Derren Brown fan, however i still don't quite see how it would be possible to use this for 'the greater good' or "greater things" as you said. If you could give me an example then that would be great but i just can't quite think of what he could be doing that would help people other than what psychologists are already doing.

  • I think what Derren and I am a fellow huge huge fan massive fan, was trying to say is that there are a number of people who literally have their lives ruled by superstition and find it uncomfortable to operate in any other way. He set out to try to find out why this is.

  • You're right and these are people who have psychological problems or issues, but what I'm trying to say is that Travisprice90 said "y isnt he usin his genuis nd knowledge of the human mind 4 greater thngs???" but ultimately there are no greater things that I can see other than helping these people that have psychological problems and like I said previously that is what psychologists are already doing.

All I'm trying to find out is what he actually meant by "greater things"

  • wel by greatyer thngs i meant more like he cud be very rich or jus accomplish mor than jus havn a tv show dya no wat i mean?? but now wen i thnk abou it like with his power of persuasion and belief if he had a conversation with ne world leaders he cud change alot in d world yano!

  • i have to disagree, travis, derren is already using his ability for the greatest thing :) you see, he shows us all that all is in our mind, and we can control it, you can be a 'better you' if you try, you can accomplish your 'great things' if you want, you can generate options when you feel stuck, coz you are actually stuck in your mind etc.and we CAN choose the world leaders for peace if we can just get rid of all the conditioning of the media on us, which is in our minds.hope it makes sense :)

  • wel i guess yr deafinatly rite ther :)

its jus strange that he reale has extrodinary skill n mabye duzn get enuf recognition 4 it? david blaine 4 example is alot less talented than derren n jus duz d stupidist of shows lik yano! but yeh def valid point u hav ther kiviann!

  • that scottish guy is annoying

"there's piles of money aout thar"

  • derren, oh my, you put THE DOCTOR in a social experiment!?!?!?!?!?!

  • I thought a black cat crossing ur path was meant to be 'lucky'?

  • is derren brown believe in religious??

  • Nope - Not in the slightest, Why?

  • He is an athiest.

Thank god for that ! :)

  • I'm sorry thank who?

  • haha

  • clever lol!=)

  • thank you derren (and his host) for opening thedoor to the insanity we all face while trapped in this tiny human brain. BF Skinner wasn't much of a family man and put his own daughter ina Skinner box for the first 6 months of her life, once again proving that those that study psychology do so for a reason...they want to know what's wrong with themselves. Think about it!

  • Skinner didn't put his daughter in a Skinner box. He invented a box that resembled an enlarged hospital incubator in order to keep her warm without having to wear a huge amount of layers during the Minnesotan winters.

I'd suggest you be sure of your facts before posting them.

  • derren is so imprssive ... he always shows how human minds work and how redicilious it can be sometimes but he always semse very getnle though ..

  • IM thinking we have to get on preserving his jeans. dare i say a Derren Brown special bank!

    LOL

  • genes, genius, genes...

    (not jeans)

  • *giggles* Well...maybe they liked his jeans too. Fashionable things from famous guys. ^^

  • i LOVE derren brown!

it's sad how little fame he has here in America; from what i understand he is much more popular in the UK. but in the US it's nearly impossible to catch him on TV. so i'm really glad you've posted all this. thanks!

  • Your'e welcome, enjoy and I will let you know when the new stuff comes out.

  • I am SO with you!

  • if i was there i would ahve thought, this is derren thats up to this so there;s a hidden meaning behind the experiment. david seems to be thinking the same thing in a few of the shots

  • woh this show is weird!

I've never heard of it till now...

    Thanks for putting it up!

    David Tennant :P

  • Your'e welcome, please come in and look around !

  • derren is so funny xD

  • Thanks for uploading! Saw the repeat last night, but it's always nice to have the opportunity to watch again (and again)! :D

  • You are most welcome - fellow Derren fanatic !

  • 08:19

"So here's how it works, your'e going to name a card, say it (pause) and MEAN it"

Well one theory - "MEAN" rhymes with "QUEEN"

not obvious I know, but then thats the point.

  • But then ...if this is the theory it would only work with "english participants" cause if Derren would say something like that to me i would automaticly focus on the translation of the word Mean or Queen in my own language...

  • All the participants in this case were British I think dear.

We have not had any "Jugdish's, Raspal's,

    Rupinder's or Gurjit's " in this series

or in the last one either

  • I usually don't post my guesses because I don't want to ruin the fun! But I think he

MIGHT have had subliminal messages along their stroll like in the heist episode. And I would guess that he had another "Just Do It" poster that had something to do with the Queen of Hearts. And the way he said "commit" was weird.... Also, QofH is a common choice for girls anyway. AND he perfectly placed that card. She's not aiming. Just throwing. If she were a lefty, the card would be on the other side.

  • He knows she is right handed, thats why the QoH is placed there, this reduces the target area by at least half. He influences her to choose QoH before hand, so she has chosen before the blind fold. She has a vague idea where it is so throws it up slightly. There is a very powerful electro-magnet in a small surface area. This pulls the dart into the circle. Watch how she throws and listen to the impact. This is then turned off once its hit. The ending had me in stitches. Zimbardo next please!

  • Nice theory - hmmm not sure on that one and we did not see him influence her to pick the QOH.

Having said that when I have done card tricks of females they do tend to go for "Hearts" naturally - true !

  • Then again I suppose Derren being a "queen" and her being female, she might pick "hearts", lol rofl lol

  • Women do tend to go for hearts more, but i think it was perhaps something not filmed if it was suggestion. Someone mentioned on cutframe's upload that he says "d-hearts". But I think more importantly is that he points at the QoH on more than one occasion lol. Once when he says "hit the correct card". I can't think of any other way of her hitting it dead on - Any other thoughts on it? I like the goldfish touch. Cheers for uploading, missed the beginning. What software do you use?

  • I use a variety of software, none of the free stuff though. Always best to get the registered versions. if you send me a message I will tell you.

  • It would have to be an extremely powerful electromagent, given that Mythbusters on Discovery did a similar thing, trying to use a Neodynium magnet to deflect a bullet from a gun. I needed a very very large magnet, due to the velo, unless it was buried in the wall of course.

  • The QoH is forced, it is a common card choice and has been used before. I agree with the electromagnet theory but not definitely sure. Also if you are blindfold you may have less choice not more of where the dart goes?

  • You would need a very strong electromagnet given the velocity of the dart and the fact that Mythbusters, Adam savage & Jamie Hyneman tried deflecting a bullet from a gun, with a neodynium magnet and the magnet ended up being huge and difficult to hide. I suppose they could have plastered it into the wall but even then getting the "Point" of the dart exactly right would be very difficult. With a magnet it is more likely for the dart to end up sticking to the board sideways I reckon.

  • Talking about the wall, notice how that room was considerably smaller than the lower half - partition wall perhaps?

  • Fantastic...just love it!

  • So clever!!!!!

  • "You're the bloody doctor, get us out of here!"

    *pops balloon*

    "Not that time!"

    "Not that time..."

    <3

  • Maybe he forgot is sonic screwdriver.

  • Haha!

    I think you're right.

    xD

That and if they had the Tardis, they could just warp to the other side of the glass door.

Or just walk out after five minutes...

    <3

  • Wouldn't it funny if just one person had noticed the writing on the ceiling and did not tell the others and then just walked out, without saying a word.

  • Rofl!

    That would've been hilarious.

*The lady from the underwater trick episode exits the room*

    Glen: "Did she just..?"

Jason: "I think she just did."

Kitty lady: "Are you sure she didn't just...unlock the door through a trick or something?"

David: "Damn it! She must've stolen my sonic screwdriver!"

  • It would have been very funny

You can imagine the look on the TV crew's face's...........

"No you can't do that you have to go back in there and pretend to look stupid while we film you being stupid.....lol"

  • David: Has anyone seen my keys, I've left the the lights on in the tardis and it's double parked and you know what they're like round here..."

  • lmfao.

    You're an absolute charm computersolutions.

    xD

  • Thank you, Thank you very much indeed, long time since anyone said that about me lol

  • I did actually have a wonderful idea of getting a model to pretend to be a traffic warden, beside a mock-up of a Tardis on a double yellow line. It would not cost a lot but the photo would sell really well.

  • Haha, it really would be special.

    xD

You should try that out sometime!

    It's quite sad though since you won't see a special site like that in the US. Hardly anyone would get it here x_X;

  • Loll :-D

  • brilliant episode, thanks for uploading!

  • No problem you are welcome

  • Anyone notice that all the picture cards form a diagonal pattern. I wonder if this increases her chances of hitting the right card with the dart

  • All the cards form a diagonal pattern!

  • I noticed that
