I still say that if Hitler had let the armed forces do their job without interfering, and had listened to and followed the advice of the experts around him, the war very well might have gone for him. I still do not see the need he had for things in Russia. But his health was going down hill so I think he made decisions in the last 5 years based not on facts.

The German Army, Navy, and Air force, were pushed into war before their supporting material had been created. All because Hitler was falling apart and he wanted to accomplish things before he was do degenerated to govern. But, if he had not made any one of 8 mistakes, the ware might have well turned into a German victory.

Be thankful he made these mistakes

Rommel shot himself so his wife and children would not be tortured and maybe killed. I think anyone of us would do the same thing.

Rommel has the reputation of being humane his africa corps was never accused of war crimes.He was not SS but in the regular weir which was in opposition to many policies of the SS. The "Fox" was eventually asked to commit sucide for his part in the operation "Valkarie' attempt on Hitler's life. He chose sucide to prevent any repercussions towards his family. So, he was an honarable man. Maybe not the demon that people try to make of every german during this time.

My father was in the Eighth Army that fought against his forces in the north African desert. As soldiers, most had a healthy respect for Rommel as a great tactical general and dangerous adversary. When Rommel landed the Afrika Korps he had his panzertanks made multiple rounds to create illusion he had a much bigger force.

My great uncle fought against him in Africa and was amazed at how good he was. After the war he couldn't believe how little Rommel actually had in terms of resources. Then in th e 70's he found out about Ultra and how the Allies had broken all the German signals including the paths of his supplies etc. He figured he was a genius.

...I w ten sposób ten maniak Hitler pozbył się swojego najzdolniejszego dowódcy. Obok Guderiana i innych, Rommel był bardzo doświadczony i utalentowany. Szkoda (dla Hitlera) bo zabijając Rommla i wyrzucając Guderiana sam podcinał już spróchniałą "gałąź" na której siedział, nie mógł wygrać wojny.

as much as I despise nazis as the scum of the 20th century,I respect Rommel as a soldier and as a real German. Just because Hitler liked and favored him doesn't mean he supported the nazi's radical social purge or their disregard of human life. Most German soldiers went to war for Germany and soon recognized the evil of the nazis. Throughout the war, Rommel disobeyed Hitler's orders to kill Jewish POWs and his afrika corps were known as the most chivalric/humane German soldiers in the entire war

Rommel was defeated totally and utterly in North Africa. The Afrika Korps was captured, killed and dismembered as a fighting force. Rommel then failed to gain advantages for the Nazis in Europe & died in ignominy in a Nazi orchestrated piece of propaganda. You may find the facts disrupt your fantasy, but no amount of flowery language or brainless criticism will change them. As for opinion, you are free to express what you will, thanks to we who fought against the likes of Rommel.

One of the greatest frauds of the war is the notion that Rommel was somehow independent from Hitler and so forth. Rommel was a Hitler toad as long as it suited his interests. He turned on Hitler when it became convenient to do so and not sooner. Rommel was kept from the real crucible of the battle: Russia. Why So as not to embarrass the reputation of this rcruitment General.
