@vwestlife It's cool i figured out the problem, it turns out Vivitar has been having issues with their cameras "certain ones" like the one i have and the knob i mentioned turns out the mini screw in the twist knob that lets it turn is too loose, so when the twist knob is pressed in so hard to get the camera to function it leaves a finger imprint it works like normal long as you keep the knob pressed. or get the receipt take it back to the store swapit for a new one or call the company
@41cookiesbabe Try putting in FRESH batteries. IF that doesn't work and IF it's brand NEW, Got the receipt? take it back to the store for a new one and make sure you tell vivitar. If you can't exchange it still call vivitar something should be able to be worked out they may send you a new one or refund your money to you.
Sure hope the DVR410 SKU that I just ordered on bestbuy.com (one of the cheaper ones, I know, but I had a $25 gift card after trading in Yakuza and didn't feel like spending ANOTHER $20 for a $50 camcorder, although I probably should've in hindsight.) isn't as shitty.
@whoo689 There is no true "HD" camcorder you can buy today for less than $100 or so. These cheapo Vivitars and DXGs are all just using low-res VGA quality image sensors and then upscaling the output to "HD" resolution, resulting in very blocky, pixellated video.
The viewfinder is only ONE WAY??? WTF? So how the fuck do you figure out if you're recording your shit right if you're FACING the camera instead of doing the shooting yourself?? You have to record it first and THEN watch the footage? Lame
Take a look at my latest, Specs are similar. I think Vivatar has some history, in 35MM print film but they basically DROPPED THE BALL in terms of making some useful yet affordable digital era devices. I think it's most of what you want, but the minimum standards should be equal to others, Sony, Panasonic, JVC. Swivel LCD, STEREO PCM audio, A bit better HD spec since it's just passable digital really.
Wah wah wah. Poor little tech babies. You've all been so spoiled by technology. Sheesh. What are you expecting for something under $100. You want the best quality then pay for it.
@TripleBstudios2 I mention it in the video and description, but in case you didn't get that far... yes, it does. But ideally, the only thing this camera should work with is a garbage can, because that's where it belongs.
@vwestlife Your own review was more "kind" then that. The digital still camera I bought garnered online complaints as well, but most strinking is the design...it uses a Nokia battery for their cell phones, which is strange. I've used Walkman and digital stills that have no AC input, but it's because DC is normal operation current anyway
I have the Vivitar DVR 870 HD and the lcd does swivel. I do not like this camera because it does not upload in TRUE HD quality. I get the button but it is still very pixelated (ran through Sony Vegas Pro). Not a fan at all. Im picking up a digital camera from Vivitar that it says its 10.1 megapixels so we will see if it really is.
@ToXicTubeTV I would not recommend anything from Vivitar. They are an economy brand with cheap, low quality products. Either save up your money for something better, or look around for a used camera from a good name brand (Kodak, Canon, etc.).
@OriginalKIDZsk8tCrew Correct. That's why in this video I only show the VGA and QVGA footage. I directly uploaded the HD footage into a separate video, with no editing.
I have a question, If I record on High definition and end up playing in standard definition devices. Does it look better than If I had recorded it on standard definition right from the star?
With a "real" HD camcorder, yes. But with this Vivitar, definitely not... even a 10-year-old VHS tape camcorder will beat it hands down in terms of overall video and audio quality.
But I looked on your channel and I see you are yet another skateboarder obsessed with camcorders... LOL. So you probably mean a fisheye lens, not a "lens cap." In that case, you would need one that has some way of being clipped or glued on, as like almost all cheapo cameras, the Vivitar does not have threads for a screw-on lens.
ANYTHING is better than the 810HD. Low-budget HD cameras from Kodak, Samsung, Insignia, Creative, Flip, and Sony all have much better performance than anything from the "cheapo" brands like Vivitar, DXG, Aiptek, and Polaroid.
At this point, Polaroid is just a name. They don't design or make their own cameras anymore. Just like no-name brands like Jazz, Insignia, Digital Concepts, and DXG, they just contract with Chinese manufacturers to put the "Polaroid" brand name onto certain models of cameras, which are also sold by other companies under other brand names.
HI, I seen one at walmart for the same price, Vivitar DVR830XHD Digital Video Camcorder. Do you think it takes good videos and pictures, or is the camcorder not real good. Also can you edit videos using like my sony vegas 8 Pro. Please let me know. Thank you. I rate your video five star.
I was asking about the Vivitar DVR830XHD, its a little different than yours, You have the 810. I just wanted to know if you knew anything about the DVR830, but thanks anyway. And I did read comments, I read most of them, and was about the one you had. But anyway thanks.
I was looking at this camrea when i was in Office Max and i talked to the a man working there. He flat out told me it doesn't come with much. Quality isn't that important to me, as long as it isn't pixelilated to the point where you can't see anything. I need an inexpensize camrea that can be editted with Window Movie Maker. I am thinking about this one.
If your computer has a FireWire port (also known as Sony i.Link or IEEE-1394), then a MiniDV tape camcorder is a much better choice. For a little more money (such as $109.99 for the JVC GR-DA30 on Newegg . com) you get image stabilization, optical zoom, auto-focus, and stereo microphones. And any version of Windows Movie Maker works flawlessly with MiniDV camcorders.
Maybe you can tell me, why are skateboarders so obsessed about camcorders and fisheye lenses? It seems like every time I try to find a review of a certain make and model of camcorder on YouTube, it's a video of someone skateboarding. Anyway, there is no thread on the Vivitar's lens, so if you want to attach anything to it, you'd have to find some way to glue or tape it on.
Fisheye lenses fit more into the shot... alot more.. thus the Filmer can get close up and have the whole skate in it. It also makes gaps and things look longer.
I don't think this camera is quite as bad as you say, I've gotten some decent video out of it and for the price it's really not bad. The thing I don't like about it is that there is no operating manual. It had a quick start manual with it that claimed that the full manual was on the disc, but on the disc I found nothing but the video editing programs that you get with it. Anyone know where I can find a little more about how to use the menus on this thing? So far I like it but I need more info!
Not, it is not good or high quality. For $20 extra ($99.99) there are much better choices out there: Kodak Zi6, Creative Vado, RCA Small Wonder, Best Buy's Insignia camcorder, DXG 567V, etc.
Actually I like this camcorder, even though hd isn't so good. I was actually impressed by the VGA mode though and the zoom, I think this is a little better than the Flip Ultra.
Standard def. video on my Canon S3 IS digital camera looks way better than this digital video camera in HD. Plus the Canon camera I have has really nice high quality stereo mics. The only thing is my camera was 300 bucks but it's well worth it.
That background music during the feature demonstration was so 1980's! Not bad for an $80 digital video camera but I saw the lens on the front which looks really cheap like it was from a webcam.
The song is a remix of the classic "CANYON.MID" from Windows 3.x. Google "virt canyon" to find a site where you can download an MP3 of it.
Trust me, if you want decent quality video you are much better off getting a Kodak Zi6 or even Best Buy's Insignia camcorder for $99. The Vivitar looks and feels impressive for its price, but its video quality is pretty bad.
thanks for the review now I know to pass on that piece of junk
