What many don't realise is that Lefebvre only became "traditionalist" once the Vatican withdrew its approval of his society. In the early years at Econe, seminarians were not only permitted but expected to attend the new mass in the holidays and he was content to have Mass at the seminary with the first half of the mass in French facing the congregation from a lectern. Only after the problems began did 1962 become the liturgical rule, leading to the expulsion of those who disagreed with this.
Secondly, Bishop Fellay did not reject any offer in 2008, he simply stood by his original request that the traditional mass be ackowledged as legitimate for all priests of the Roman Rite and that the excommunications of 1988 be withdrawn and then doctrinal discussions could take place, since a "pracitcal agreement" without mutual understanding regarding the disagreements over the Council and Post-Council would noot be fruitful for anyone. The Pope granted these two requests & talks are ongoing.
The SSPX has to do something, weather they return to Rome, or become Sedvacantist. If the SSPX does not do anything, they will eventually die out in say 150-200 years (assuming Sedvacantism has not died out itsself).
@dacatholicbandorgan Everything that is not in communion with Rome will die out, for only the Holy Father's blessed will be eternal. It is a pity they are still taking a long time for this, because the SSPX can really help the Church out as she struggles with so many anti-Catholics within the Catholic Church itself.
I think Lefeverists means(sic) Traditional Catholics. Just as the Araian heretics probably called St. Athanasious and his efforts Athanasians or Athanatics or something.
They are NOT excommunicated. This group of priests have held on to the tradition of the Catholic faith, and should be thanked for keeping the traditional Mass alive!
He was not excommunicated, that was a lie. Vatican II was very ambiguous and many of the changes brought about in the Church are not required by Vatican II which was an ecumenical council. When Archbishop Lefebvre consecrated the 4 bishops, he was genuinely concerned for the continuation of the true Faith (and well he should have been, look at "Catholics" now!) and under both the 1981 and previous canon law, his genuine concern negated the possibility of excommunication.
@juggernette397: I remember the controversy of LeFebvre at the time of legal de jure excommunication at the time it occured. He signed a specific document promising not to consecrate any bishops w/o Papal approval. This is already forbidden under canon law. It is specified explicitely in canon law that to do has the AUTOMATIC penalty of excommunication. He was excommunicated in the very act of his rebellion against St. Peter. The Vatican only declared what he had done to himself.
I was once a follower of Lefebre. I remember when it was announced that he willfully sighned the agreement. He himself said he did but that he had changed his mind. By his actions against the Ven. John Paul ll Lefebre caused a great deal of suffering to many of us, his followers, who were filled with so much hope. He dashed our hopes, He ruined so much.
They tried every tactic they could to get him to sign away his Catholicism, Archbishop Leferbvre never gave in his good fight!, They would have loved to see him celebrate one of their clown messes.
Christ has already sifted the wheat from the VaticanII Chaff!
Novus Ordo Propaganda at its worst. He had to sign for sake of obedience, which speaks volumes. When the shennanigans began, he was horrified for the wanton destruction of the liturgy.
Catholic is truly the beast! What Bent Cross?Inverted Cross behind the pope's chair?dagon fishead that were used for King of Babylon?Sorry for my english.
I'm so tired of hearing about those crosses. Peter was crucified upside-down, as he felt that he was not worthy of being crucified in the same manner as Our Lord. Saint Peter is buried just beneath those inverted crosses, and the Pope is the heir to the throne of Peter. The Papacy (that is, the bishopric of the diocese of Rome) is the very office which Peter held before becoming martyred.
It's symbolism, not apostasy. Please stop spouting this dribble.
It is Christ's Church being represented not Peters. You obviously know nothing of the goings on of Vatican II and how all the people that mattered rejected it and the modernist infiltrators loved the new mess written by 7 protestants under the pen of Freemason Cardinal Bugnini!
One of them concluded that they had finished what Luther began.
Where is the real 3rd secret of Fatima regarding the APOSTACY!
hahaha Inverted Cross? Why don't you do some research about St. Peter and what he was crucified on and why? That might clear something up for you. Furthermore, the theory that the bent cross (simply artistic) and the inverted cross (the Corss of Peter) are of satanic origin is meaningless because the Church has been around longer than Satanism. It'd not our fault they stole it from us..,.Same with your silly fish hat. The Origins of the Mitre go back farther than your little fish thing.
@dblazek08 Christ sanctified the cross, not Peter my brother. His humility in being inverted may have been a greater and deeper meaning than the so called Vickers of Christ want you to believe. Forgive me

He probably signed the papers because he did not recognise the significance of the mistakes written in these letters. He fully became aware of the mistakes after the council. A true man can correct his mistakes. This is pure anti Traditionalist propaganda from certain groups within the church whom fear the power of the Tradition. They thought it would die out in a few generations, and now it appears they were wrong.
Lefebvre was not a diplomat, that was his weak point. But over 1000 years he will be remembered as one of the greatest Saints of all time, just because of that. Without Lefebvre's hash resistance the Motu Proprio would never been issued.
Secret talks are held with the Vatican and the Lebfebrist to reconcilliate. The innitiative comes from the pope! Why? Because the Lefebrists have many young followers.
How many times did Archbishop Lefebvre publicly deny signing those documents? This is what is essential to know. In his biography, the author, a SSPX bishop, states that he signed ONLY after the promulgation of the documents by Paul VI, but there were some bishops who had refused to put their signature even then. He was not among them.
"Schismatic" Bishop Fellay. Wake up and smell the coffee. The excommunications will be withdrawn or declared null and void by Pope Benedict XVI in the coming days.
I second the words of Mr. Perkins. Everyone knows Mons. Lefebvre signed the documents of VII. This is pure sensationalism, hype. I am with the SSPX, but this type of reporting is embarrassing. Why the smearing of traditionalists? Lefebvrists? Thats an insulting term.
Joan of Arc died excommunicated from the Church and now she has the word "Saint" in front of her name. Declarations of excommunication are NOT infallible.
I said he is a saint because I firmly believe he is one. How can one who spent his whole life defending the Catholic Faith against Her enemies (which unfortunately included the conciliar and post-conciliar popes) not be considered to be in heaven?
This report constitutes serious sin. It pretends to make a discovery of something which I and thousands of others knew all along. There is no discovery and no secret. The signing was a common act of all the bishops and did not indicate agreement--and this was common knowledge all along. Let's have some honesty for once. This sort of cheap trick is beneath contempt. It would be risible were it not such a lie.
P.K.T.P.

Mr. Perkins. I clicked on your profile. It seems it has been hacked, as several perverted videos are listed under your "favorites." I suggest you change your password immediately.
A simple, factual report. It is sad that HIs Grace led others to defy Holy Mother Church. The one trait he and the SSPX lack is obedience to God and His Church. Yes, yes, I know, all you SSPX-ers will say you are being obedient to Tradition. Well, you are not fully Catholic because you, like most protestants, refuse to submit to Rome. The promise to protect the Church from error was made by Jesus to Saint Peter, not to Archbishop Lefebvre. That said - SSPX - do come home to Rome - we need you.
What is so secretive about this? Bishop Bernard Tissier Mallerais (one of the four bishops consecrated by Archbishop Lefebvre) admits that the good Archbishop signed all the documents because he trusted that the pope would not approve them. The important thing is that the Archbishop stuck with Tradition while the Novus Ordo hierarchy went into schism against Tradition.
