Its not about max power... why would it be? its about having 1001HP for DAILY usage... you can drive it anytime, anywhere, for as long and hard as you want, it will keep working. @ToniFilth Newer cars have ECU (engine control unit) where you can change torque and power delivery at the certain rpm and increase power (remapping or chip tuning), and this gauge is surely linked to that maps and reading all the time all values at real time, depending on pressure of gas pedal..

So you can exert 1001 hp without going 200mph, but metrically, better charactierized in the auto industry as bhp, the veyron exerts about 987 bhp which is torq per second. The 1001 hp is exerted at redline in neutral under the bonnet only as torque per second and cannot be achieved on a stock unit in motion. The car never hits 1001 driving to 253mph, it maxes out at 987.
at a certain point in the powerband on any engine horsepower will start to decrease that of which is around high rpms, the same thing goes for torque except torque loss is higher than that of the amount of horsepower lost. i bet that engines making 950 hp at 7k and 900ish lbs of torque at 5~6k
So you have less than 200HP at the moment then, which is laughable. Im 19 and have 300hp... all paid for by myself, including the $600 per month insurance, $800 per month fuel...

The torque is more important for acceleration than the max. HP ! The torque is THE ONLY REAL strength of the engine and should start low in the rpm band. Max. HP are reached at the high RPM level, to keep the speed up against rolling resistance, air resistance and so on. IN WHICH GEAR EVER:
2 cars with the same max HP can drive 250 mph ! But the car with more torque is the winner, cause it is sooner at max. speed.

Some of these comments are laughable. Every car has a maximum power or torque band. There is no car in the world (with a combustion engine) that will immediately be giving full power output when you enter full throttle.
Anybody with an inkling of interest in cars should know this already - it's actually common sense. Why don't you get pushed back into you seat when you give it full throttle at 1500rpm? Many of these people can't have even driven cars - let alone comment on a Veyron...

@blueroseking no...diesels torque bands are much lower...thats why most diesels never see past 3000rpms...their compression is so high (21:1) that they make torque down low...usually you will see diesels quoted with relatively low hp figures but extremely high torque numbers because of this. There are exceptions...but diesels and gas engines are very different animals

Can I just say... thats the rev gauge... the 1001 is there BECAUSE the car has 1001bhp, think of it as a kind of "easter egg". The engine at max can do 10,000rpm and this gauge has it subbed to x10.
No, I've the car in Forza Motorsport 3, the RPM is in the center of the dashboard You can see it in "Testing 2" thumbnail in the related video, on the extreme right there is the speedometer and on the left there is the HP meter (sort of a torque meter). However in FM3 the HP meter isn't animated :-D
And a gauge can tell you anything, whether it's PSI, horsepower, oil pressure, temperature, etc etc. it's the little round thing with numbers and a needle. Sounds familiar?

@strathpol You are such an idiot... Your heap of junk does not have 300hp ALL the time!!! You only have your maximum horsepower for a very narrow band of rpm. HP = Torque x RPM. That is why at low rpm, you have low hp. Simple!!! Stop commenting about things you don't know about, simply to try and show off your little 300 (doubtfully) hp car in a video about a car that costs probably 50 times as much as your car.

The torque is more important for acceleration than the max. HP ! The torque is THE ONLY REAL strength of the engine and should start low in the rpm band. Max. HP are reached at the high RPM level, to keep the speed up against rolling resistance, air resistance and so on. IN WHICH GEAR EVER:
2 cars with the same max HP can drive 250 mph ! But the car with more torque is the winner, cause it is sooner at max. speed.

@heavymetaltuba its pretty much the exact oposite of the 'power reserve' gauge in a rolls royce, and the veyron does have this dial. the 0-200kmh time seems pretty close to the published one aswell. i don't see any reason why it should be fake?

Some of these comments are laughable. Every car has a maximum power or torque band. There is no car in the world (with a combustion engine) that will immediately be giving full power output when you enter full throttle.
Anybody with an inkling of interest in cars should know this already - it's actually common sense. Why don't you get pushed back into you seat when you give it full throttle at 1500rpm? Many of these people can't have even driven cars - let alone comment on a Veyron...

your a idiot you do not have to hit 253 mph to have all your horsepower. you reach horsepower output of a engine during revs. meaning you can be in first gear and reach the horsepower output of your engine. because your transmission and gearing are what produce the actual speed of a car.

@099psp man you got it all wrong,any car reaches it's full horse power depending on the rpm not the top speed that's why when you read any car specification in any website it tells you,example (600 hp @ 5000 rpm) that means this car will reach it's full horse power when it reaches 5000 rpm.and the video you just seen tells you that exactly cause you can see the HP gage reaches 1001hp in any gear depending on the rpm if i leave it go all the way to full rpm and full throttle.

@blueroseking no...diesels torque bands are much lower...thats why most diesels never see past 3000rpms...their compression is so high (21:1) that they make torque down low...usually you will see diesels quoted with relatively low hp figures but extremely high torque numbers because of this. There are exceptions...but diesels and gas engines are very different animals

@099psp You must be 12 years old...at top speed the veyron is using its transmissions direct drive or overdrive gear ratios with the final drive...so far away from top horse power it isn't funny....it prolly makes a third of that I'm sure doing 253...its in the gearing...and torque that make you go forward...Hp sells cars...torque moves the world

Can I just say... thats the rev gauge... the 1001 is there BECAUSE the car has 1001bhp, think of it as a kind of "easter egg". The engine at max can do 10,000rpm and this gauge has it subbed to x10.

Veyron's W16 has max èpower at 6.000 rpm, rev limiter at 6.400 rpm.

No, I've the car in Forza Motorsport 3, the RPM is in the center of the dashboard You can see it in "Testing 2" thumbnail in the related video, on the extreme right there is the speedometer and on the left there is the HP meter (sort of a torque meter). However in FM3 the HP meter isn't animated :-D

The bugatti's engine isnt 16.4 litres It's 8. The 16.4 on the engine stands for 16 cylinders and the .4 stands for 4 turbos.
