This is similar to enrichment. I've volunteered at the zoo; the animals are delighted to have interaction and stimulation. This was, in all likelihood, the highlight of these animals' day (tied with feeding time, haha).

teasing animals isn't torture, but it's not good for thier "enrichment" either when there is a window or fence in the way. Toys are brought in by the zookeepers so they may keep their activity up and utulize their instinctual habits...bringing this worm is labeled as "teasing". And if you look at wildlife laws, you'll see that teasing is a disruption of the animal's natural behaviors. Fine if this happens a bit, but this will get you kicked out of the zoo.

While I think this video is cute, I have very mixed feelings about it. Enrichment activities for animals in zoos include things the animals are capable of getting at.... the animals in this video couldn't get at the toy being dangled outside their enclosure. If the zoo employees were asked or approved then by all means I will apologize for my mixed feelings, but after reading through the comments I am lead to believe no employee was aware of this. =( Should have asked zoo animals stress easily.

That was in no way torture. Torture is when you hunt down the animals and sell the cubs to stupid people who slowly kill them by lack of knowledge. Torture is when a seal is clubbed to death as a sport and torture is being skinned alive or semi conscious.

I'm not an animal expert but I think the animals would enjoy this break from the monotony of zoo life. When I see big cats at the zoo they're often pacing back and forth in their tiny enclosures probably bored out of their mind (except for the lions which are usually sleeping). Still, if I tried what was in this video at my local zoo (Taronga) I'd soon get kicked out.
Yeah it is sort of sad, but they get to do something instead of sitting around all day in a cage/glass wall watching epople walk by. So they are enjoying something :D But yeah lol i would done that too if i went to the xD But yep they are actually do something; playing :D

It's a shame those cute lil' fellas couldn't play with the toy. I would've loved to see the jaguar play with that toy! And the Monkeys and meerkats! It's so cute, almost sad that they couldn't really touch or play with the toy.
Oh, and zoo's aren't useless. They also try and breed animals that are in a small number these days. And they make people aware of who walks the earth with us, and try to make people aware of the problems that we can help reduce... That is IF you read the signs!
I worked at a zoo, we did lots of things to keep them from going crazy, like giving the rino a log-on-a-rope to attack. Or hide food for animals to surch. We even had balls inside the stables. You know... living in a zoo is boring when nothing happens. They had lots of fun with this, and it wasn't at all harmfull! Thank you for making them have a laugh instead of pulling there tails. xxx
The monkeys reminded me of the scene in "2001 A Space Odyssey" where those monkeys, or unevolved humans or whatever they were, were going psycho at the monolith.
Because of the terrible things humans have done to nature, Zoos have become important for several reasons. They contribute to conservation, science and verterinary research. They provide an education for people to better understand and respect nature and all that is in it. Zoos also contributes to the breeding and conservation and sometimes reintroduction of species all over the world.
Zoos once were a bad thing a long time ago and sadly many illegal zoos run for profit. But many zoos are helping species thrive in a safe environment to benefit us all.
lilatubenei, The Zoo's are here for a reason. They help the endangered species from becoming extinct. They help breed the animals and let them reintroduction out in the wild again. And maybe let them reintroduction to their natural habitat...but sassyirishgirl is right about the humans have done as in terrible things, the humans environment has taken most of the animal's habitat. I hope i help out a bit =3 if you want to know about it a bit more you should research.
San Diego zoo is better. Enclosures are way bigger. Hope that jaguar has a bigger play area or something

It's a shame those cute lil' fellas couldn't play with the toy. I would've loved to see the jaguar play with that toy! And the Monkeys and meerkats! It's so cute, almost sad that they couldn't really touch or play with the toy.

Oh, and zoo's aren't useless. They also try and breed animals that are in a small number these days. And they make people aware of who walks the earth with us, and try to make people aware of the problems that we can help reduce... That is IF you read the signs!

I worked at a zoo, we did lots of things to keep them from going crazy, like giving the rino a log-on-a-rope to attack. Or hide food for animals to surch. We even had balls inside the stables. You know... living in a zoo is boring when nothing happens. They had lots of fun with this, and it wasn't at all harmfull! Thank you for making them have a laugh instead of pulling there tails. xxx

The monkeys reminded me of the scene in "2001 A Space Odyssey" where those monkeys, or unevolved humans or whatever they were, were going psycho at the monolith.

Because of the terrible things humans have done to nature, Zoos have become important for several reasons. They contribute to conservation, science and verterinary research. They provide an education for people to better understand and respect nature and all that is in it. Zoos also contributes to the breeding and conservation and sometimes reintroduction of species all over the world.

Zoos once were a bad thing a long time ago and sadly many illegal zoos run for profit. But many zoos are helping species thrive in a safe environment to benefit us all.

lilatubenei, The Zoo's are here for a reason. They help the endangered species from becoming extinct. They help breed the animals and let them reintroduction out in the wild again. And maybe let them reintroduction to their natural habitat...but sassyirishgirl is right about the humans have done as in terrible things, the humans environment has taken most of the animal's habitat. I hope i help out a bit =3 if you want to know about it a bit more you should research.
