Lukecahir, Was Sergei really in an accident?? That explains why he is always facing down.Sad hey, i take my hat for him, bcoz he did'nt stop his music after his accident, he continued...Awesome Sergei, really awesome.
Yeah well Sergei was in a car accident as a kid and can't hold his head straight for any length of time. He was going to be a virtuoso piano player but the accident ruined that.
How does he play the trumpet like that? Doesn't that block his air ways to his mouth? I tryed to play the trumpet like that, it sounded like shit coming out of an old mans ass
yeah well thats you. I play like that. I sound better, my air stream is more constant, and its a hell of a lot more comfortable. A lot of people think of holding your horn straight out as the 'control' like in an experiment. Or, the 'normal. Well its not, its just one of the hundereds of different ways you can play your trumpet. Its all based on how you play. Except in marching band... mandoes that screw your chops up.
Who cares how he holds his trumpet? I'm an amateur trumpeter and believe me if I could play half as well as him with my bell pointing towards my bell end I'd be happy!
LOL - Try telling that to Dizzy Gillespie! You play the horn the way your body allows you to play it best! That's why he's where he is! Learn the fundamentals and then mold them to YOUR body and style of playing!

Sergei's playing downward isn't a result of an accident. It's part of his technique, he leans forward to get a more natural flow of air.

So far he doesn't strike me as being able to produce half the sounds and play nearly as beautifully as Wynton does.
His technique and speed are amazing, he just doesn't capture my attention with anything
sounding good.

If that doesn't capture your attention and heart, you have no ear for music.

This man is excellent. He could play in any jazz quartet; but 99% of those players could never do what he does on the trumpet. Period.

the difference is he is circular breathing, so the column of air is not as essential as for most amateur and professional players

No doubt fantastic playing. I wonder if he can still play like this if he held the trumpet straight out instead of playing to the floor.
