  • I would definitely agree with the person saying you don't need to spend big bucks to sound great. I think it's important to get something that a. stays in tune b. is comfortable to play for a long period of time (all day) and c. sounds they way you want it to sound.

  • dude turn off that freaking delay and easy on the reverb, show us how it really sound!

  • @blazvignater yeah I know what you mean, but it's easy to set up and mod those guitars to get them to a higher standard, I now own a Bonamassa Epiphone Les Paul and its simply the best guitar I own and IMHO better than a standard Gibson. There's a couple of bids of it on my profile if you want to check them out!!

  • Im viewer number 100 000! :D

  • @SuperIthinknot

    Congrats!

  • DAT TONE

  • Come on!!! stop ripping off Eric Johnson licks. Please go on a vacation and invent your own thing.

  • He sounds like Eric Johnson.

  • I would've never thought that the word "versatility" would appear on a Les Paul video.

  • @RemusN7 Oh, come on. Gibsons have four knobs for a reason, and it's not so that you can leave them all on ten.

  • @RemusN7

You dont think a Les Paul is versatile? Really?

  • @royalknight2 It's not the adjective I would've used to describe it. A superstrat would be described as versatile, or just a strat with a bridge humbucker (taking all the knobs into account). A Les Paul sounds ultra-nice, and is versatile, of course, but just simply not the most fitting word for it.

  • What's the point of all this shit going on here? Why is it always Epiphone vs. Gibson on youtube? It's a retarded argument. Epiphone and Gibson are not competing. You buy an Epi, Gibby makes money, and vice-versa. Epiphone are great guitars for the money. Some would argue that the only real difference is the brand name. That's not true, but certainly the quality difference does not justify the price difference. Epis are great guitars that you can play and not care if something happens to them.

  • @ErebosNetherDarkness absolutely ... I own a Gibson Flying V and an epiphone "korina" flying V and like it both !!!

  • I've got a £1,800 Gibson Les Pal *AND* a £500 Epiphone Les Paul Custom and the Epiphone is so good I use it as much as the Gibson.

  • hes an ugly mother fucker but damn he can play

  • @themanchild27 oh my god i'm laughing so hard!!

  • @MasterxMorgan you own an Epiphone? Wow... I'm impressed you lowered yourself to that level... Lol

  • @stefanhaukguitarist - Lol, no man. I buy those too. I don't, however, buy starter pack-quality guitars. Those suck ass.

  • I think we should just accept that @MasterxMorgan over generalises people who play certain guitars and is a gear snob. We can't change his views nor his taste, so let's just get on with our lives.

  • @stefanhaukguitarist - Okay?... I'm a gear snob now? I said this three times, but here goes again. I have Gibsons and PRSs, yes, but I also have Schecters, Ibanezes, and yes, EPIPHONES. So, don't even start.

  • @MasterxMorgan you can all take your idiotic arguments elsewhere.. how old are you all.. 10?

  • @thatloser88 - The argument is over, dipshit. You really ARE "that loser."

  • @MasterxMorgan ;)

i'm not about to hypocritically start another one with you

  • @thatloser88 - That's what I'm saying.

  • @MasterxMorgan

Nothin' wrong with an ibanez or schecter. or an epi casino.

  • 4:39 WOW!!

  • @MasterxMorgan - Why you pickin on someone for playing an Epiphone? Guitars are all subjective; that is to say - the players personal preference. My cousin makes guitars, they are beautiful builds, using materials he loves to get the effect he's lookin for. Been a guitar tech & player/bassist for 40+ years. Lots of people would kill for them and they don't have Gibson or Fender on the headstock. Watched this guys vids (after a quick search) and he's an AMAZING player. Put your jealous ass aside.

  • Comment removed

  • (from email) @ThisMusic - Show me where I'm picking on anybody for playing an Epiphone you piece of shit. Right, you can't, because I'm not picking on anybody for playing Epiphones. I'm picking on those who's egos are massively inflated for thinking they're rich for having a Les Paul, but a cheap Epiphone. And jealous? Show me ONE comment where I've made a bad remark on Bonamassa. ONE. Right, you can't, because I haven't. Now shut the fuck up.

    You were picking on @stefanhaukguitarist...

  • @MasterxMorgan You were stating he will never be a good guitarist because he doesn't own expensive guitars. I was implying you were jealous of his ability, not Bonamassa, you imbecile.. moreso, have the balls to say those things publicly instead of posting it once so I get the email then censoring your public response on here so people don't think you're aggressive, or a dickhead. Guess that plan fell through, huh.

Now you're madly trying to back pedal because a bunch of ppl called you out.

  • Comment removed

  • @ThisMusic - No, I'm not trying to back pedal. I didn't block those people, either. I deleted all of the new comments because I'm just really confused, and I flamed you for no reason that second time. That, and I need reading glasses. Sorry man; I am developing eye problems. But seriously, though, I never said that he wasn't good for having a cheap guitar. If you read my reply to fenderkid6, you'll see what I mean.

Also, balls? Ha! This is the internet, broski. You don't need balls on here.

  • @MasterxMorgan Exactly! I was a tad confused at the flamage too haha. Yeah I seen that comment now. Consider it square & no dramas here, we cool.

  • @ThisMusic - Lmao, okay my dude. Peace.

  • @MasterxMorgan I'm not one say I'm great to anyone, but I think it's great you can afford to play nice guitars, but understand not everyone is in that position. I chose to buy an Epiphone because it sounds good and plays well, the audience don't care what brand your guitar is all they want to hear is it being played well.

  • @stefanhaukguitarist - Thanks man, nothing wrong with Epiphone or those who buy them. Actually, I own one; an Indonesian-made Standard. Something IS wrong, however, with most of the people on YouTube. Alot of YouTubers play their Epiphones with large-ass egos. Usually Epiphone players, not so much on others. A YouTuber going by the name of EPI6fingers speaks for the arrogant players.

Thanks for the not-heated reply. Enjoy your playing.

  • I've just suddenly realised he has a potato face...

  • This is almost a replica of the video where eric clapton, in his cream days, is talking about his tone and style of playing in the Royal Abert Hall Farwell Concert 1968 DVD

  • Joe Whosa Whatsa?

  • @MasterxMorgan sorry mate I'm 16 years old and wouldn't dream of affording a Gibson, so I've saved my pennies and have just bought an Epiphone Joe Bonamassa which is the closest in specs to his Gibson signature. We can't all be connoisseurs, but I spend more time playing my guitar and trying to improve than worrying about the fucking sticker that's on my headstock!!!

  • @stefanhaukguitarist - That's fine, as long as you don't swear on your nieces and nephews that you're such hot shit playing on a cheap Epiphone. Guess what? I play on Gibsons, Schecters, Ibanezes, and Indonesian-made Epiphones; so you better hold your whores. Hehe.

  • @MasterxMorgan also check out gary clark jr, he plays an epiphone casino.

  • @stefanhaukguitarist Cool man keep at it.

  • @stefanhaukguitarist same here! all the specs on the epiphone are the same except the bridge! and the pickups are slightly different. but epiphone makes a perfectly great guitar. the name on the headstock doesnt mean anything at all! a nice guitar is a nice guitar!

  • @stefanhaukguitarist Damn straight. A low end guitar in the hands of someone who practices will sound a million times better than a Les Paul Custom played by a talentless, fronting loser who has more cash than sense. I guarantee that if you gave Joe your Epi it would sound damn near identical to the LP he's playing in the video.

  • @stefanhaukguitarist I play a freakin squier so yeah all you elitist "tone gurus" can suck it im an average at best player who cant even read tab. I JUST LOVE TO PLAY.

  • @stefanhaukguitarist Right. Don't buy into all the bullshit. Hendrix learned on very cheap guitars. You don't even have to have an amp to get better at working picking, fretting, chords, etc. That is where your talent expresses itself.

  • @stefanhaukguitarist when your that guy,you can tell the difference.kind of like switching from a squire to a usa made strat....

just my opinion, but guitarists like your self, can get the right sound out of anything.I do feel you on that.

  • what kind of scale do u think he is using for that lead

  • @rustyjames761 Blues and Dorian scales, you can tell by the sound.

  • I cant stand this guy! the way he looks, talks, everything about him. BUT MAN CAN HE PLAY!

  • @RunNingTheoRy I met him. He's actually a really nice guy.

  • @infinterhombus your right one of the best guitars I ever played "not sound wise but playability" was a 200$ ESP explorer looking thing, man that guitar action was vary nice. And if someone don't like the sound change the pickups lol

  • No matter what sound Joe Bonamassa is trying to immitate ( for demonstration ), he always has his own sound. Impressive. He is the man.

  • delay-lay-lay-lay-lay-lay-lay-lay-lay...

  • turn the tone up and you can almost get like a single coil sound.....no joe, still sounds like a FUCKIN WICKED AWESOME LES PAUL!!!

  • @ChrisTheRipper47 - The weight. They get damned heavy after hanging on you for about 4 hours.

  • @Lear23Driver yeah that's true i have a Les Paul and its because they are solid body guitars

  • les paul talks about joe bonamassa

  • les paul talks about joe bonamassa

  • Does this guitar have even one bad thing about it?

  • @ChrisTheRipper47 Bad balance, one of Gibsons least ergonomic guitar to most, the neck breaks extremely easily, reaallly heavy, overpriced... I could go on. Ed Roman pretty much covers most of it. By the way I LOVE the Les Paul but there are bad thinks about it so please don't anybody get offended. :)

  • The bitching about the balance is about personal preference.

The bitching about the weight is resolved with chambering.

The bitching about the price is people to fucking cheap to afford one, so they buy an Epiphone and justify it by saying "it's a Gibson." No, they're to poor to afford better, real deal. Epiphone doesn't come close.

  • @MasterxMorgan you'd be quite surprised.

  • @MasterxMorgan you are sadly fucking mistaken if you think that the playability of a guitar has to do with how expensive it is.

  • No one said anything about playability, so you can stop talking there.

  • @MasterxMorgan Let me rephrase that then; "You are sadly fucking mistaken if you think that the price of a guitar has anything to do with how good it plays, with how good it feels or how good it sounds".

  • No one said that either.

  • @MasterxMorgan a good player an expensive guitar does not make.

  • @fenderkid6 - Does not make... What?

  • @MasterxMorgan it means having a flash guitar doesn't make you any good, only wealthy. (or stupid, if you buy it on credit) "if he acts too hip, you know he can't play shit."

  • Comment removed

  • @MasterxMorgan boy oh boy mr. you sure know your stuff :) I should probably throw out the hand me down my grandpa bought it 1962 . My dad handed down to me.

It doesn't look like the one in the video ,the name on the top part say fender. It's probably a piece of junk. just like the case it an ugly tan cloth weave and has a fender on it. I hope the trash man takes it , thanks for the help mr.

  • Comment removed

  • Any player should play different guitars and find one you like. Looks are nice, but sound is more important. Les Pauls and Gibsons sound really good. So do other brands. Solid body is one superior feature about electric guitars for sustain.

  • Can anyone tell me if this is a 58 or 59 Les Paul reissue?

  • @sebah1991 A lot of the '58 flametops that came out in 2002 have that kind of top.

  • is this joe bonammasa he gain a lot ;)

  • Joe can get that tone man. He can play LOUD AS HELL and that helps any tone. LOL.

  • @LesterPaul01 tone is both in the hands and the gear. Mainly in the hands of coure.

  • beautiful flame

  • Kinda kinda kinda kinda kinda kinda kinda kinda kinda kinda kinda..........

  • His early tone was great

  • I think he is a great player but that tone sux

  • So many things between the guitar and the amp, I can't hear the guitar...

  • Man I hate delay for that kind of music

  • @709AJ I agree bro

  • @709AJ What kind of music? Are you stupid?

  • Each guitar has its own sound. It takes a good ear to pick out a great guitar. Craftsmanship is important, but it comes down to the sound coming out of it. Some high priced guitars sound like crud, while some cheaper guitars sound wonderful.

  • boo ha guitars suck! dubstep is the fucking real music! not this so called 'music' skrillex ftw!!

  • @MrBoringolddude I was just messing aha, wouldnt be watching if i dint like it :')

  • @MrBoringolddude i was gonna say. you wouldve looked like a total dingbat

  • @MrBoringolddude how the fuck is dubstep "real music," let alone "music"? a stupid fuck with some software can make a dubstep. and if u think guitars suck, why the fuck are u watching this video?

  • @MrBoringolddude you better watch what you dickhead, you dub shit head lover,

dubstep is easy to do, just fart.

theres no talent in dubstep. you are dumb fuck.

guitars are awesome. i dont care if your joking or not, because its not funny. SO DONT EVEN JOKE ABOUT SAYING GUITARS SUCK.

  • What model les Paul is this

  • Great player. Glad he changed his look now, because he use to look like Drew Barrymore

  • @SomeKindOfMadman hahaha that's funny, man!

  • He's lost a lot of weight since then, sheesh.

  • What is the color of the guitar please ?

  • Guitars are just a matter of opinion... One isn't better than the other.. Its just what you like... There's a difference in the way their made but... yeah...

  • @FreaquedeMusique Well said...no use arguing over subjective matters

  • @FreaquedeMusique That's so true. It's what ever makes your ears smile.

  • Here's ur versatility.

Eric Gales at Musik-Schmidt, 13 Nov 2007 on youtube.

  • Turn the tone knob to 3..same sound. Turn the tone knob to 10..same sound. Change p/u's and tone knob again..same..damn..sound. Great player, not a versatile guitar though. F E N D E R.

  • @tomigunn777

    I play both

    Strat and LP

Players don't give a rats about the rivalry, it's just the kids that think so small.

Players play both. Let me tell you what a Strat can't do.....just listen to this. A Strat can't do that.

Also have a listen to Snowy White dueling with that fender player on Roger Waters The Wall show.

The FAT Soaring sustaining ballsy sound is the GT. HAHHAH you're a tool!

  • @tomigunn777 Dude,he pretty much played 3 versatile scales all over again, thats why it sounded the same.

  • ZZ top just got paid!

  • To MasterxMorgan: You must really be an A-hole. I have an opinion and you don't have to agree, but if you have to use profane language to do it, go on the Jerry Springer Show, you piece of white trash.

  • Great stuff.

  • Sounds as if he is looking for treble...Get a Fender Stratocaster, like E. Clapton and J. Beck. They have never looked back.

I hate all that reverb and overdrive. All this vid did was make me love Fenders even more.

  • Fuck off if you don't like it, shit.

  • @nelliethetele

I don´t discuss the fact that the strat is the most versatile guitar on earth. But have you ever played a les paul with p90´s? and I don´t gree... u can do a million things with only the 4 knobs of a les paul.... that´s the reason is the most iconic guitar.... and the strat of course

  • He should have paid much more attention during the time Danny Gatton wasted trying to teach him to be a player

  • @guitarsurfercody are you being serious? that guy has some insane chops?

  • the peter green sound <3

  • With two Budda Superdrive 80's it's a wonder he has any hair left !

  • @rapamisc spelled ur name wrong sorry

  • @rapamusic oh yeah he incorporate a lot of eric johnson style in some of his solos but i hear he takes alot further

  • I can hear a lot of Eric Johnson tricks in there

  • ha ha pause @0:48

  • Joe, love your playing, but the difference in tone when you have the tone on 3 versus when it's on 8 or 9 is pretty tough to hear when you're running the signal through that big ol' effects board. Can you go straight into the amp and forgo all the delay please? I'd love to hear the tone of the guitar itself.

  • The flame on that is stunning.

  • Funny how he's now predominantly a Les Paul player.

  • like i said : i miss in his style the feelings, he talks about 'PETER GREEN', please listen to 'GREENS' albums !!! (... but give me a bit of 'JOES' speed...) , LES

  • is that opening riff from one of his songs?

  • Les Paul is my all time favourite guitar. I've had many copies over the years. All very good. My penultimate copy, which I still own and love is an Epiphone Les Paul Custom in silverburst. FInally I bought myself a 2011 Les Paul Traditional in Desert Burst and it's amazing. :) Check my channel for clips :)

  • @KotowTV Epiphone are owned by Gibson, Les Paul himself licensed Epiphones to be made overseas to save cost. They contain some Gibson parts and have everything the same, however some materials aren't as good and the electronics inside are more reliable in Gibsons made in the USA. For me, Epiphone are great Les Pauls, they definitely have that thick beefy sound, but Gibsons are just more soild, better at staying tune and sound that little bit thicker in my opinion.

  • What's a bit of an eye opener for me is hearing guys like Joe and Warren Haynes talk about how they use their volume knob; a bit of an aha moment for me when I realized that the pros don't use the volume knob as much for boosting their solos as they use it more for a gain control knob, to control tone and such. The extra volume on stage more of a bonus and and afterthought. This is different then most gigging club guys I know who use the volume control for, uh, volume control. Very cool.

  • @cm0220ster For a single channel messing with your volume and tone control's on your guitar is pretty much a give.

  • i want to buy a les paul and form a band...that's how college life should be lived...

  • his sound is great, but very processed. the echo and reverb is a little much. i like guitar > amp :)

  • @seicheberlin I would agree, for purposes of a demo, would much rather hear it just amp and a little reverb.

  • Sounds like Clapton in Cream, thinking about spoonfull. :3 But faster.

  • really eric johnsonish

  • Am I wrong, or this les paul later got black plastics and a bigsby?

  • thought i would post this for you les paul guys

  • The tone and volume control tricks he shows here will only work well with 500K volume and tone pots. All new Gibson USA Les Paul Standards are built with 300K volume pots and 250K tone pots, so it will not have the same effect.

  • ok I need this TABS !... can anyone help ?

  • Looks like a div. Plays like a saint.

  • Unreal player, I mean the guys phrasing is fucking godly.

  • he sold his soul

  • @brooklynstudio for a les paul

  • @brooklynstudio he got his money's worth...

  • I got shocked first time I played my SG, I couldn't play normally for about 2 days

  • i would love it if joe made an album that had a similar sound to that first riff he was playing.

  • It looks like he's playing a 1959 Gibson Les Paul 'Burst.

  • @acdcgregpage03 reissue

  • I love Les pauls, and Joe, but I think the fender strat is more versatile. What do you all think?! I think humbuckers only sound good overdriven.

  • @insomniac5150

I agree that starts are more versatile, and also more subtle. Their design appeals to me more than the Les Paul which I honestly don't like. But I have to say that humbuckers deliver a whole lot more kick than single coils. Despite the fact that I prefer the strat, I have to say that Les Pauls are the ideal rock guitars.

  • @regelemihai yeah exactly, that was my point 'they only sound good overdriven' i think clean tones on a Les Paul are........dull. if you want clean= Strat. If you want Crunch= Les Paul.

  • @insomniac5150

Exactly right. I'd settle for either one, frankly, if I had even half of the money required to purachase one :-P

  • @regelemihai i want a Les Paul, but the prices are silly.

  • @insomniac5150

Indeed they are. I just saw a 335 that costs more than 3000$.

  • @regelemihai i take it you're American? in England where i'm at they're about £2100 so that sounds about the same, i love 335s. i just can't afford one!

  • @insomniac5150

Yeah, it's about the same price, give or take. And just like you, I can't afford one. My cheap and trusty Fender acoustic will have to do for now.

  • @regelemihai Maybe we should write to Joe and ask him to donate us a couple cast off Les Pauls, tell him we'll pay him 100 dollars a month instalments lol

  • @insomniac5150

Lol, it's crazy enough to work.

  • what are the specs on that Les Paul? I need one just like it, is it a flat top?

  • The different tones would come through a lot more clearly if he was playing straight through to his amp instead of drenching the sound in reverb and delay. It sounds great, but the differences he's showing are hardly noticeable.
