I actually agree as far as the black-on-gray lettering. Even in pretty well-lighted situations, it's pretty difficult to see the legends on the keys. It was a pain when i was getting used to the Fn keys on the HHKB. I myself would've preferred white legends.
Still, the feel is one of a kind, and I really enjoy typing on it now that I'm used to the layout.
@dereka60 Not a dumb question at all. The topre keys are special in that they're the longest lasting of any keyboard. In other words, they'll take more strokes on average before they break. They use a capacitive/rubber dome hybrid mechanism. Topre are the type of keyboards used at airports and other areas where keyboard malfunction is unacceptable. If you look at it this way, it's probably the last keyboard you'll ever NEED to buy. Do a search online you'll find a better explanation.
Nice video presentation, thank you Harvey. Am a RealForce/Topre owner too. Regarding your informing us that:"Topre are the type of keyboards used at airports and other areas where keyboard malfunction is unacceptable." I have to smile because ou and many others on the web have posted that same quote, and I ask all of you to name one airport in the United States where you have seen a Topre keyboard. Beware of succumbing to the product hype of the manufacturer {:>

Stupid keyboard, you can't even read the lettering and of course those who buy it will say "I can type blind", then why on earth did they ADD the dark lettering or why is this user adding a red escape key and blue wasd keys, to look cool? ....because it looks terrible. And seriously....no numeric keypad... and btw, it looks awful combined with that glossy plastic on that monitor... I never understood the concept of glossy plastic either; finger print magnet, scratches, reflections.
@rayray097 I'd definitely pick the Topre over the Cherry keys. I have the FILCO at work and the Realforce at home (I'm afraid of leaving a $260 keyboard at work). When I come home I enjoy the realforce much more. It just feels like a superior keyboard. Much more sturdy and pleasant to type on IMO.
@llViperStrikerll it only supports 6 key rollover. If you happen do more than that it simply won't register the 7th stroke. I haven't had it squawk at me yet, but I don't have many scenarios where I press more than 4 keys at a time.
It's the multi-weighted. I can't really tell the difference unless I press each key individually to test them, but I think that's the point. By far my favorite keyboard.
I'd been using the FILCO for a few months already. The G15 was a temporary replacement.
The Topre feels better and better each day I use it. I'm typing a lot faster than I was with the G15 or even the FILCO.
I'd highly recommend it although I'll still be switching back and forth with the FILCO when I'm in the mood. As far as the 87U vs the HHK, that all depends on what kind of layout you want. Personally I couldn't give up my arrow keys for function arrows. Your call.
Where in US ,or how did you get this realforce 87U?
I have been looking for this keyboard in WHITE all over the internet, however only one online store called elitekeyboard carried it, but only in Black.
Should I buy it through one of online shops in Japan?
cherry blacks?

Nice KB there!
91U is more eye-appealing with yellow Keycabs on but the Japanese layout made me discounted it a bit.
for a short KB with English layout, this is da real shit!

can i actually press 7 keys at the same time and do quick taps or will it start squeaking after a period of use.

I was able to get this at elitekeyboards.
You may have some luck looking at geekhackorg. Someone may be able to point you in the right direction. They also have a classifieds section,
