Ben Franklin was a ladies man. I love how they include that bit of historical accuracy in the beginning as they're both walking up the flights up stairs.
" My Venerable Colleague, enjoys a priviledge here, that is much to be enjoyd. Being Seventy Years of Age, the Ladies not only allow him to embrace them as often as her pleases, but they are perpetually embracing him. I told him Yesterday, I would, write this to America."
- letter written to Abigail from John Adams about Franklin being a player in France while they were both there in 1778.
@BestrNameEver Yes it was a little funny, but Franklin was funny in his own right. They could have done the research to show the real funny side of Franklin. But it's a movie so all that really matters is the fact that it entertains viewers.
@singingismypassion ...Are we watching the same movie? The man was portrayed at the height of wit and clever. Unless you're talking about his habit to sleeping. Keep in mind the man was in his seventies and really, could you say you WOULDN'T sleep during a session of Congress?
"Some day, you must tell me how you did it". I'm a Christian, and even I find humor in that line. I have this on DVD, and see it every Fourth. One of my top favorite flicks.
I love how they were literally already making out for 5 seconds "What makes you think so?" and Adams actually justified that with an answer. hahaha :)
Aaahahaha I love this scene...too bad it's historically inaccurate b/c the summer of 1776 Martha Jefferson had had a miscarriage which is why Tom was so anxious to get back to see her, as she was in no state to travel. But it's quite all right, this is one case where I'm happy they twisted history---it makes for a lovely amusing scene. Adams looks so embarrassed it's hilarious!!
@abootorab BTW, the actor playing Rutledge (S. Carolina) was the old bartender in Northern Exposure. And Reverend Witherspoon is played by the same guy who was the governor in Benson.
I find I also truly like the debate between Adams and the delegate from Pennsylvania (whose name currently escapes me). I had a history professor who told me that this is as likely how it happened (without the singing and dancing, of course) as any other hypothesis.
I BET THE only person who disliked it was john adams.
Adams: a whole week. the entire earth was created in a week.

I wish you'd tacked the end shot of Jefferson gazing slyly down the steps at Adams after Franklin departs...that made the scene.
I suppose he was saying both "thank you" and "get the hell away from my house" at the same time
RamrodtotheMax 2 years ago 4
There is another small historical inaccuracy in the movie.........
During "But Mr. Adams" the one man is referred to Robert Livingston.
The man who signed the Declaration of Independence was Phillip Livingston.
