my wifes car was running bad. engine light was on and sometimes it would flash. some times it would just stay on.It was missfireing.I replaced both ignition coils and the spark plugs and it solved problem
@lenhister Not yet! We scanned it several times and no code that would lead to a problem. I'm gonna have to change my EGR I think... This is really strange
@nuke00 Hey thanks for your reply. I took my car to a mechanic, they changed the spark wires, and ignition coil and the problem remains. Please keep me posted, I'll do the same.
@lenhister it happened to my grand am. the mechanic told me the gas filter was dirty and it works fine. before they changed the coil the spark wires nothing happened but when he clean the gas filter it worked properly. try it out, and if it does your lucky.
@nuke00 I took it to one mechanic and they changed the ignition coils and spark wires and the problem returned 2 days later. I then took it to another mechanic who changed the EGR valve and now it runs smooth. More than likely it's the EGR valve as this is such a common problem among Mazda Protege's.
So i got the car and took off the EGR and cleaned it, i felt that i cleaned it really good however it stalled twice on me so far really bad, almost like the engine is gonna die. Im gonn check for vaccuum leaks tommorow and see if i cant try to clean the valve aliiiil bit better. Other than that do you have any other ideas? the IAC is cleaned and the EGR so far..... any ideas help thanks!
@akalda1 Try to get your fuel injectors cleaned. If it doesn't works, check your EGR valve solenoid or if your timing belt has jumped. You might want to clean your intake with intake cleaner too.
Hi there, im getting this exact car tommorow for free but the owner says he has the same issue. i hear its the coild from just about everyone on the internet, did you have something simular to that???? thanks
@akalda1 Hi. The ignition coils are ok, but for you, I'd say it may be the EGR valve or the TPS. You should scan the computer if it has a check engine light. The EGR is a real pain in the ass on that engine, every 2.0L gets this trouble one day or another. I'm thinking of bypassing it. Hope it helped you!
@nuke00 Thanks for the tip i will check that off the list first thing, I think they cost around $150 so I might attempt to clean it and put the original back and pray the gasket does break lol.
I had the same problem, but I replaced my catalytic converter, my coil packs, and my oxygen sensor, And now my mazda is perfect
