Glad to see my company isn't the only one where the Captain controls the throttles even when its the FO's takeoff. Not something I particularly like but at least other companies do it too.
These are REALLY fantastic videos. I just ordered my first one (Air Canada 777-300) and I'm ready to order more! They are put together so well--really the best videos on the market in my opinion.
@applesweeter Minimums is the minimum height above ground that the pilots must be able to see the runway. If they can't see it they have to execute a missed approach/go around. V2 is the minimum critical engine out safety speed. Its the speed that the plane can fly safely with a failed engine. On a 747 its around 180 knots.
david bowie lol...man that sure is a sexy first officer...have the deepest admiration for flight crews everywhere....just got pmdg 747-400 so that was a great intro to the fmc-cdu tks!
@Khazar01 Pilots will almost always land manually if conditions are visual. They might fly the approach with autopilot on, and will carry out full autolands regularly for procedural familiarity but generally from short finals to touchdown, manual landings are the norm.
Nice takeoff and landing! I've really loved to be a comercial flight pilot but it was not accesible to me (the charge of flight training lessons and flight/hour.....:( )
I like to watch this Youtube many times, I hope in the future I see ladies from my country to have a pilots career. I wish to the female pilot all the best in her career .
Holy Crap!!! I didn't know DAVID BOWIE is also an airline captain for the 747-400!!! It's a double whammy. Think of it, he could sing Ground Control To Major Tom AND fly at the same time!!! Awesome!!!
@jm431 minimus is the altitute the pilot has to decide if he/she is happy to continue the landing. If there is low visiblity and the pilot cannot see the runway when minimus is called he/she should go around and try again.
@Simonj110 That would be the speedbrake, you'll see at 7:28 if you look just to the left of the thrust levers and the pilots hand a lever moving back toward the bottom of the screen. The speed brakes automatically deploy on touch down to help the aircraft slow down. They are those slats that you may notice that stick up and out of the wings on landing
I fly the 747 now, so it's fun watching how some of my colleagues in the work field fly.
It's a bit odd that the Flying Pilot used the yoke to control the aircraft after touchdown. Boeing generally tells pilots to use the rudder after touchdown and leave the yoke so as to avoid wing/engine strikes.
@wompasdub Yes that is true. We make more preparations and "contingency plan Bs" than a passenger can imagine in case of engine loss or other problems (even medical problems).
@jonstewartforprez well if you don't use the yoke after touchdown you may strike your engines/ wings. They use it to keep it strait. The wind blowing from the other directions
Intereting video! @mmichaeldonavon I thought that at first but if you look closely she landed right in the touchdown zone (the white marks on the runway surface), so it was a pretty spot on landing!
Fania54: it is the pitch, to adjuste the descend Rate, instead of moving the yoke to the forward, she corrects just with the pitch and she can gain her Rate of descend smoothly in the ILS.

I have 2 questions.
*What does "minimuns" mean during landing?
* What is the speed of V2 for 747 during take-off?
applesweeter 1 month ago
@applesweeter Minimums is the minimum height above ground that the pilots must be able to see the runway. If they can't see it they have to execute a missed approach/go around. V2 is the minimum critical engine out safety speed. Its the speed that the plane can fly safely with a failed engine. On a 747 its around 180 knots.

@applesweeter V2 also depends on the weight of the aircraft - the heavier the plane, the higher the V2
