I see that the rich are the same everywhere - decadent and entitled, being utterly possessed by the delusion that the labor of any man can merit such opulence while his fellows go without, even after working so hard.
They are talking here (obviously this is dated) as if there is freedom of the press. There no longer is, pretty much all of it has been taken over by the government now because they didn't like getting criticized. Those markets shown often have empty shelves these days as well, particularly now that Chavez has screwed up the agriculture system in the country by stealing well run farms and parceling them out to the poor who can't produce much more than to feed themselves. Food is imported.
@BMayhew60 thats a lie, they still have propaganda machines in Venezuela trying to convince people that he is an evil socialist, and your mis representing the information you have learned, you have been watching fox news and Cnn, Chavez has improved quality of life for all classes, the amount of poverty will never be at zero percent, no one is saying that. And the only things he has nationalized is the Oil companies which should be the case for every country considering its a natural resource
@Airportris Fact check yourself. Power Industry, telecommunications, steel, cement and oil have all been nationalized. Others partly affected are agricultural supplies, milk, glass packaging, food markets, banks, mining, heavy equipment and farms expropriated. Also, I've been to Venezuela at least 10 times and speak Spanish. The media has also been intimidated and in at least a few cases opposition stations have had their licence renewals refused and a proposed law punishing media he dislikes.
@BMayhew60 so whats what with nationalizing natural resources? and everything you just said was discredited by telling me to check google... so i can get an answer from an american news paper or t.v? lol your a joke... natural resources belong to everyone not corporations. and its the exact opposite media speaks openly there and so do the people, take your face off fox news
@Airportris So you get that Venezuela has not nationalized or partially done so or seized land from what sources yourself mate? Venezuela took over not only foreign interests but also domestic interests as well. If you want to challenge me, bring it on. I know 10X more than you do about South America as I have lived there, worked there and been in most of the countries there. I'm a joke? You use your emotional and political tilt against me and then have nothing to back it up but bs.
@BMayhew60 whats wrong with nationalizing foreign or domestic "interests"? is it because capitalism is not prospering for the country? and the people? and your the one making claims, YOU HAVE TO PROVIDE THE SOURCES SMART GUY. American governments and banks take peoples land and property everyday, why are they not . you know there is more then one way of doing things right? you know its possible capitalism isn't the best for every country... but i guess that doesn't enter your brain.
Free Market capitalism works, it's corporatism/fascism that does not work and neither does socialiasm.. You can't create puchasing power with socialism, it's impossible.. Capitalism should not be given a bad name because corruput US backed goverments stole all the money and didn't allow the free market to operate instead had these huge corporations controlling everything not allowing competition.. Chavez should look to what Putin did in Russia...
@xMaXiMuSx i never said it doesn't work, they all work in theory... but the problem with things like capitalism, is that there is always a small minority left to suffer, why can't we design a system where the poor are takin care of if they cannot not succeed in a dog eat dog capitalist society, i believe as humans we have a drive to compete and to do our best, but some members of our society cannot function and contribute and i just think they should be taken care of.
@BMayhew60 I can speak about Argentina and the process of privatization with a perfect example: railways. Argentine state railways were inefficient and obsolete (in part, because of corruption between state officers and local or foreign private providers, which "casually" would become the private buyers). Today, being private, 4/5 of jobs and most services are lost, the ways rendered useless, and the state pays more for subsidies than it used to lose as administrator. And that money goes abroad.
@BMayhew60 and it belongs to everyone equally and profits should be distributed equally or for the greater good of the people, thats just common sense. and as for the food? are you serious? turn off the tv because i promise you can't provide me a viable source to verify what your saying, your just against him because you watch too much t.v
@Airportris See my response to your other response. Google any of it dimwit. You make yourself look really dumb and how dare someone who obviously knows extremely little on the subject accuse someone who does of watching too much TV and lying. A little fact checking could have avoided looking so uninformed in a public forum. If you like the guy, fine - but it is you that is making things up.
@BMayhew60 where are your facts? sources? american media? lol keep coming with the propaganda, you know nothing of that country. and i know whats been nationalized and changed, but its working as opposed to capitalism which creates the most poverty in the world and puts money in the hands of the few and powerful
Chavez denied capitalism and because of that America want to kill him (or at least deny his nation for "basic human right") for Venezuelan's oil.
Anything seem justifiable when it comes to greed.
Bill Gate is a true capitalist but he capitalised the wrong people (i.e. the people from becoming rich) therefore US government broke his company apart because "in a way" he stop others from capitalizing the poor and that is a bad thing viewed by the government.
I love how John Pilger stops the rich guy who starts ranting about Bolsheviks mid sentence and tells him that he's still rich, his businesses aren't being invaded and there's no revolutionaries knocking on his door. Well done Mr Pilger.
A democratically elected government that uses some of the proceeds of oil profits to fund supermarkets where peoples constitutional rights are printed on packets of food? People who want to live with dignity, eat at least one hot meal a day, to read and write, and maybe go dancing... Naturally this is a threat that the United States must crush...

@heavyspy13 I wish people would stop using the words "democracy" or "democratic" becuase this ideal hardly exists. If your governments and media lie to you, then you make your decisions based on lie rather than fact, and this therefore does not create a democratic situation. Governments do this because they know that the majority of people do not look further than their TV's for their information so are easily brainwashed.
@heavyspy13 I don't agree that dictatorships are dying because the USA are placing corrupt dictators in all the countries that they meddle in (they are in over fifty countries now) so they can get their hands - thanks to the corrupt leaders - on the all important natural resources. This is why they want to badmouth Chavez and replace him with someone who will make getting to the oil money a whole lot easier.
@heavyspy13 . And you're picking on China, what's wrong with their one party system ? It's not much different than the USA. Think about this, the Chinese politicians can get on with the job of running the country instead of playing poilitics to win the next election. And after all, their economy isn't doing too badly, is it. Sure, it's not perfect, but no countries system is. I would not like to have the responsibility of managing over a billion people.
In Britain the only way you'd hear of this is if you researched it and that shows the subtle control America has over it's "allies". I despair at the people of the rich countries who carry on worrying about their credit card bills and mobile phone contracts when the majority of people in the world are suffering and hungry. It's easy to ignore brown people overseas if we distract ourselves with television shows and allow fear to guide us. One day the world will have had enough.

how much of that is as the result of capitalist policies from the previous regime? it takes years for wounds like this to heal, and even longer when a foreign power is still meddling in their affairs
Oh really? Did you know that the Chavez government interferes in the politics of other countries in Latin America? In Argentina, where I live, he tried to give $800 thousand to the Kirchner re-election campaign. (Google Guido Antonini Wilson) He meddled in the Peruvian elections, openly supporting and funding opposition candidate to President Alan Garcia. He meddled in Nicaraguan elections as well, supporting and funding President Ortega's successful election, and so forth.
Also, is it America's fault that Chavez shuts down opposition media, bars political candidates from running in elections, stacks the courts with his cronies, gives support and funding to terrorist organizations like the FARC in Colombia, makes changes in the Venezuelan constitution that will allow him to run for president an unlimited amount of times? I know the last thing was voted by a slim majority of the public, but he lost the first time around and put it up for a vote until he won.
The state is there to take care of its citizens, it is not up to private people to do this. Every country ussually have some naturalresource that gives a lot of money, that should go to all the countrys citizens, not to a private corporation. With a resource/s like that, the country can take care of its people. The state is there to its people and not vice versa. Like in Sweden, and other nothern countrys, and how it is now in Venezuela.
Wait... 1914 Bolshevik revolution? Where was this? I know there was a Bolshevik revolution in Russian in 1917, is that what you were talking about, you ignorant cunt?
Ok, here's the thing people: if you really want to improve poor people's lives, then why don't you all work together, accumulate capital, train/educate poor people so they can be part of your "socialist company"? Why not fighting fire with fire? Make money, but instead of buying unnecesary items, collect it among all you and use it wisely. How about that? Money isn't a bad thing - we are the bad ones for not using the power that money provides in a wisely manner!!
I can't believe how tolerant Hugo Chavez is toward a media that is bent on defaming him. I can't imagine this happening in a single other country. He's probably set a historical record for the most tolerance of media criticism of the government.
And aren't the wealthy always boasting about how "cultured" they are compared to the vulgar of the poor people? This clip shows nicely what a load of shit that is. Here you see poor, ignorant people near the end of their lives who dream of nothing higher than learning to read and improving their minds. And what do the rich do? They decorate their houses with works of art as if they were hunting trophies and watch shitty sitcoms on their idiotic television stations. They are the scum of humanity.

Mr Pilger, a true but naive propagandist of folk-collektivist Antisemi´te, who supports the most evil antiwestern-anti-israeli islamists.
The psycho-ideologic problem is, the USSR also (miss)uses the real social/ anti-poverty movements, so that the Wt and spec. the USA automatically became enemies of the poor, because it had to be anti-communist.
So now, Chavez and Achmadinedchat use these anti-/pro-communist/imperialist footsteps & demagogy.
And Castro was bad how?

Exactly. And in media all over the world they say that he is clamping down on opposition media...

This government is obviously a threat to world peace. We should nuke it, clearly. How dare they try to improve their quality of life? Kill them all.
