  • If a business fails in the free market, it is because it is no longer useful enough to the people to be used. It isn't good or bad for society, it just happens. Still sort of sucks, though.

  • Sorry, But Andy is off-the-mark on this one.....

  • @DushonMandick23 I am ecstatic to see a postal employee reveal his true colors. Please don't go to work with a machine gun tomorrow. Whenever a post office employee goes "postal" a lot of his postal co-workers are casualties. They have two speeds, stop and reverse. It is like shooting fish in a barrel.

  • RIP Andy Rooney (1919-2011) . I will miss your wisdom from your books and 60 Minutes commentaries.

  • I prefer email, both writing and receiving, than a hand written letter. It saves trees, too.

  • Just remember, trees for most lumber and paper are farmed. When the demand drops, that space gets used for some other commercial purpose, or just neglected until it becomes viable to continue production, often resulting in fewer trees. Not to mention the myriad of other sources of paper: bamboo, hemp, flax, etc. You should try picking up a nice fountain pen and writing a few letters, changes the process entirely. There's just something visceral and personal about a hand written letter.

  • @haruspex84 I agree, but with that method I cannot backspace and correct mistakes. Not for me.

  • RIP

  • You know what really pisses me off....light bulbs. Whatever happened to gas lamps...and I don't know about you...but I would rather take a crap in a big hole in the woods than put indoor plumbing in my house.

  • All postal employees are lazy, retarded, inbred chimpanzees with surly attitudes who think the world owes them a living.

  • @Jefgg I wholeheartedly agree. A union-run entity, 60+% of whose income is derived from junk mail REALLY does not deserve to exist.

  • @eddiequest4 I concur.

  • @Jefgg if I'm a lazy retard like you say then you must be the lazy fuck who gets there welfare check and food stamps on the first of the month...get your free phone too?

  • @mailchick3508 I get nothing for free. And unlike you, I work for a living. And it is spelled "their", not "there". I guess lazy postal retards can't be bothered with proper grammar. Fuck you, cunt.

  • @mailchick3508 You are so dry the crabs carry canteens. Screw you and all the useless baboons who pretend to "work" with you. I don't trust the post office retards as far as I can throw them. I pay my bills online and use other services to deliver packages. If it wasn't a felony I would pound my mailman to a bloody pulp. I get mail for everyone in my neighborhood except myself. Then I bring it back to the post office to complain to a supervisor. They just scratch themselves and wonder why.

  • Idk about you guys but I don't use email either!!

  • He didn't talk about HR 1381

  • Love you Andy!

  • this guy was like a grumpy old man, but he was a legend

  • R.I.P

  • This is funny. An email has all the charm of a freight train.

  • Rest In Peace Andy Rooney! Will miss hearing your commentaries!!

  • JOBS ! NOT GOP CUTS !!!

  • US POST OFFICE IS AS AMERICAN AS BENJAMIN FRANKLIN !!!

  • You got the suggestion for this segment in an e-mail, point and case as to why we need less post offices.

You would rather waist paper and your time and the postman's time rather than get a relevant and important email?

  • Trim your eye brows and I will take you more serious. You are not allowed to have brows like that unless you are a scientist or physicist.

  • amen to andy rooneys feelings on the u.s.ps !

  • The thumbnail looks like Andy's ghost in front of the post office.

  • what they need to do is consolidate more 'small town' post offices. Up a stretch of US 76 near me, there are 4 post offices within 30 minutes of each other and it could stand to be consolidated into 3

  • Why don't they just close their doors. All I get from them is ads I can't stop, and bills I don't want. Just go away and let UPS and FedEx do its job.

  • @onebaud USPS are the originals. because it's a government agency, they would actually have to go strictly by the books. FedEx and UPS could make up strange rules not by the minimal.

  • @onebaud FedEx and UPS charge a minimum of around $15 to send something, and if your bills came that way the utility would just tack the added cost on to your bill. Then you would have to pay another $15 to send them the check. So much for the private sector being more efficient.

The USPS' main problem is that they don't charge enough. If the cost of a 1st class stamp was doubled to 88 cents, it would still be an utter bargain compared to the private options.

  • Andy is the alpha troll! :D

  • you fucken senile retard

  • What a terrible argument. We all like mail; that doesn't mean that the postal service should continue operating at billions of dollars of losses. If it's more efficient, cut some post offices. I have 3 within walking distance. Rooney's argument--once again--has very little to do with the actual issues at hand.

  • I love snail mail! They better not close the post offices... That would just be terrible!

  • Snail Mail

  • if you consider how much effort is needed to transport a letter from one side of the country to the other, a letter is a bargain whichever way you look at it.

  • Look, getting a personal letter will always have a tangible quality to it that email can't replace, but he's honestly saying that he'd rather get a junk mail than a personal email? WTF is wrong with this guy? He also didn't provide which idea he liked the best for keeping the post office in business, he just said he didn't like any of the ideas, but he wants to keep it. The more I hear about this senile lunatic, the less respect I have for him

  • It is unacceptable that I have to watch a 30 seconds commercial just to see Andy Rooney rant about some pointless topic...

  • @AmericanXcore It's pointless that you watched a 30 second commercial for a clip you didn't care to watch in the first place.

  • @NateMac00 yah, that's what she said .

  • 100% AGREE!!!

  • @AmericanXcore Just do what I do, and don't WATCH the commercials ; ) I mute them, then let them run their course while I do something on another open browser window. Before you know it, the disgusting annoying commercial is gone. I never see or hear them. They disgust me.

  • The first class stamp i STILL one of the best deals in America!

  • @ThePrimeSpotcom The first class stamp is a great bargain as long as the lazy retards who pretend to work at the post office can figure out how to put a labeled envelope in a marked box. They always use the same lame excuse. "It's not the regular carrier" is their favorite pathetic excuse. And that is unacceptable. These poorly trained postal service monkeys should have to work a real job just to see what it is like.

  • @Jefgg To get better service, I tell residents to write their name on a sticker label and place in inside the box where only the letter carrier would see it ie. "Smith Only." BTW, I collect those blue boxes. LOST IN THE MAIL? Um, I've collected burned mail from firecrackers, mail drenched in coffee, softdrinks.. people, don't use marker, it runs! I have even collected dirty diapers, needles, used condoms. I could call a few postal CUSTOMERS names but I'll let you! PS ALWAYS put ret addy!

  • FUCK CBS AND FUCK THESE COMMERCIALS

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Three day mail delivery work weeks are quite sufficient. What do we need mail delivery on Tuesdays and Thursdays for?

  • I totally agree with Andy Rooney. Email is a good way to contact people, but email can only do so much. If I want to send a post card to a friend who lives on the other side of the country, I usually send it via good old fashioned post office. If I want to say hi to that someone, I usually email that person or if I don't mind calling long distance, I call them on the phone. But I believe getting rid of post offices is a bad idea.

  • Society is progressing and daily correspondence is becoming more convenient. I, Andy Rooney, am old and therefore will complain about this.

  • I do like mail better, I like the fact that its physical and you can hold it. But email has one thing going for it, its free!

  • The chimps who work at my local post office have two speeds, stop and reverse. And they could care less. They have all the benefits of a government job plus a union. I didn't know bums could unionize. I am not concerned about them going postal. They are too lazy to pop a cap.

  • The old days are over Andy, but jerkoffs like betsall are still here....

  • In 1900, when I was in my mid 30's...

  • like u andy but the PO has nothing but over paid cunts....do away with 40% of the offices or cut their fuckin pay them ass holes.

  • Sounds like your wife ran off with the mailman. Lucky her!

  • Thank you Mr. Rooney I like working at the post office as a carrier and the peraons to which i diliver the mail to always look for me with a smile.

  • @hrodri1867 I like the post office too. I send out a lot of email but I don't write off the post office entirely. And the carriers are cool. Nice uniforms too my friend.

  • Give it up, the post office is outdated.

Write an email. The current post office is a joke!!

  • @InsaneGoonRules

    I like mail better

    It might be slow

    But it is trusty

  • Thank you Andy for taking the time for the post office. A handwritten letter is the best. Some well thought time and 44 cents to send a handwritten letter is priceless. I've been delivering mail for 19 years. I do online marketing, but my service is my first priority.

  • I'm sure glad he hasn't retired. He's not that funny, but I always smile for a while after hearing him. just like now; I'm smiling with tears in my eyes.

  • Andy is right. The best mail I ever got was when my girlfriend sent me a letter scented with her favorite perfume. I kept it under my pillow almost forever. I think I'll start using the post office more often. There's nothing in the world that says more than a letter written by hand to someone you care. Thanks Andy for setting the record straight.

  • I always enjoy listening to Mr. Rooney lamenting about our not to distant past quickly vanishing permanently.
