@cirrhosed In a ghazal it is very difficult to differentiate between Megh and Madhmad Sarang....The difference lies in the treatment of of rishav and nishad and their andolit prayog which can only be brought out in dhrupad properly....It is the greatness of his proper taalim (which most of his copiers lack) that his alaap brings out the Megh clearly (note the re and ni andolans). But the song is generally Madhmad Sarang/ Megh interchangeably. Plus it is mishra with other notes too.

Ghulam Ali sahib played Tabla for 10 years for Mehndi Hassan, then began his career as a ghazal singer. Please do not compare them as Ghulam Ali studies under Mehndi Hassan sahib.

Mehandi Hasan was also the master and Ghulam Ali is also a master, its not about calling someone a king and someone a nawab. Its just love for a kind of sur. Like someone may like GHulam Ali or someone can like Mahandi Hasan or someone can like Talat Mehmood, or Jagjit Singh or I think the fathers of Ghazals like Mirza Ghalib or Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Sahab. So just enjoy, dont impose your flavour on anybody, its not good. They all are the best. I think so...
