Her voice was ruined by that second rate blues band she played with , this is Janis at her very best.. My momma loved to sing along with Janis while washing dishes.
Yep, that's John Cipollina (not Peter Albin) from QMS...late grrrrrrreat guitarist from the San Francisco scene of the late 60s; saw QMS a few times; Jorma Kaukonen is one of the original members of the Jefferson Airplane, then Hot Tuna, recorded Quah, and performs regularly...soon at McCabes in LA.
@holyland08 Too bad Cassady didn't play. That's Jorma's thumb doing the bass parts. (Listen to Embryonic Journey) Jorma was my mom's guitar teacher at Dana Morgan's Music in Palo Alto. Mom also took banjo from J. Garcia. I hung out when she took lessons on Saturdays or during the summer. Man that was fun! Mom, now 80, was a folk singer in the sixties. Her regular gig was at the Tangent in Palo Alto; performing as Marcia Moore when married to Ben H. Moore M.D.(d) RIP Papa Ben. Luv, BluzCat Keith
The opening picture is John Cipollina the lead guitarist of Quicksilver Messenger Service, another great player, who played sometimes before Jorma and Jefferson Airplane sets but, as far as I remember, never actually played with Jorma or Janis (but I would love to be proved wrong).
This is indeed Jorma and Janis together in Jorma's apartment practicing (they did play folk clubs together in 63-64?). One track "The Typewriter Tapes" never commercially released. Jorma's first wife is typing.

This is raw Joplin, the one that disappeared with her commercialization. She was great either way, but I rather prefer this. JB
