Do they always get that big when they're pregnant? I have a pregnant cavy right now and was told by the vet she was due anytime now, but she is not THAT big...how many babies did she have?

They can get pretty big. Biggest litter mine ever had was 6 and she was huge. But one of the others only had one, and two was more common, and they just looked a little fat.

I did not know much about guines pigs at the time I adopted mine. I put her cage in my room and would clean it out often, then I got bronitius. Has anyone else experienced this?

Anywhere from 1-4 is average. Shorthairs usually have more, an average of 3 or 4. Long hairs have usually have 2 or 3 babies. =)

how do you tell if your guinea pigs pregnant? cause i have a guinea pig and right by her belly where the legs are it gets really big and it feels muscular, we feel stuff moving down there unless its gas or intestines moving? if you could tell me it would be alot of help :3

dont grab ur Gpig if your not sure. u could kill the baby pigs inside the belly. I dunno how you know f a Gpig is pregnant but i advice a pet doctor to take a look :)

It's hard to tell without somebody who know what they're talking about to actually see the guinea pig. A vet would be able to tell you, but if you can already feel things moving then it it probably not a good idea to move the sow, she could become stressed and go into labor too early. Although from what you describe, she does sound like she is probably heavily pregnant. For the record, I've never heard of being able to feel gas or intestines moving, but I guess it's possible. I have two girls and a boy. We had two boys, but marble passed away in september. Jade, mine, has had two litters, one of 3 and one of four. Unfortunately only two in the second litter lived. The father was her brother...(line breeding) She is three now and we don't want her to have any more babies, but we're trying to get our other girl, Hershey to have a litter with Max, our boy.

Piggies are the best! My guinea pig Marita ended up pregnant and I had no idea until I found the baby. Unfortunately, the baby didn't make it (only 1). Marita was very lumpy, so that's why I couldn't tell (she was like that from the time I got her when she was about 1 or 2 years old, plus, her eyes were cloudy).
