hey dude i got a black bullhead about an inch long at a creek a few days ago. he is happy in my goldfish bowl and eats goldfish food. if i move him to a 10 galllon, how long will it take for him to grow to like 4 inches
i used to have one... it died dut it was in a 100 gallon pond, reached 38 inches, and weighed5.6 pounds, almost a world record fish of his kind.... if you ever dont want that fish, send it to me, i have yet to get anotherone because i cant find where to get them
cewl im getting cat fish 4 the class tomorrow but not sure what breed.all of us are bringing fish, turtles and decorations.and we have jobs. Darrel has the best he has poop duty :P
@batstarwars2 I know you asked this a month ago and you might have already found the answer. But, catfish are not only the easiest fish to take care of, but definitely one of the easiest organisms to take care of. I will tell you why. They're nearly impossible to kill. I mean if you stab them of physically harm them they could die. But they can live up to 48 hours without water. They can live weeks without food. And if you don't feed them, they can live happily off of algae from the tank..
I now have a new yellow bullhead from today, and what's really strange is that he ate a handful of fish flake on the very first day! Does anyone now what's going on?
@shadowems My Yellow Bullheads come to the surface to eat fish flakes all the time. It is good/fun to give them a varied diet. I've fed my catfish minnows, crickets, rolly pollies, scuds, tadpoles, worms and anything I happen to find!:)
My black bullheads are awesome! I throw frogs in they eat it worms other fish snails pretty much everything if I get full at supper I just bring the stuff I can't eat down too them and they eat it. Lmao my dumbass friend threw gum into it and of course they ate that too and actually digested it... I was pretty worried lmao but these fish are to badass
I used to grab a couple crickets off the sidewalk at night, then throw them on top of the water .... they would come up and pick them right off the surface.
I have a channel and it eats at night I assume since I never see it eat and he was a inch or less when I caught him and now is about 5 inches and I never see when it eats but the food i give the other fish are pellets, flakes and freeze dried blood worms and baby shrimp so I guess it eats the blood worms and srimp and i have minnows which it dosen't mess with much as far as the stress thing goes, maybe just the type, o and I feed right as I cut the lights to ensure it eats hope this helped
I just tried this with my pet brown bullhead and its the only thing he'll eat beside a live minnow, once in a while, thanks for the tip on feeding my anarexic catfish!
i juz caught a catfishh bout 2 inches long... n i think im planning to keep it...what do i need to keep it alive? do they need oxygen? filter? anything you kno would help thnx in advance
i juz caught a chnnel cat bout 2 inches....n i think im plnning to keep it...what do i need? do they need oxygen? filteR? anything you know would help thanx
Possibly, but the bigger the tank, the happier and healthier they will be. The catfish in this video outgrew his tank and now lives in my downstairs bath tub. :)
Depends on the species. And if you plan on going out to catch fish to keep, READ UP on them first! There are a few species that do thrive in captivity, like bullhead catfish, but there are others that have requirements for survival that can't be met in a tank.
hey :D i have one i found in a lil stream , i feed him anything from dried shrimp to minnows. I can pet mine and feed him while he is in my hand , they are smart fish
I usually feed my two nightcrawlers that you can get at any bait shop, crickets, minnows, and blood worm pellets. If it's meat, they'll eat just about anything.
i got my bullhead catfish from a pond hes about 6 inches long and hes in a 10 gallon tank along with a 3 inch goldfish and a small plecko do you think theres too many fish in my tank
(oh yeah, i had some zebra fish in there but he ate em
cat stevens! lol cool tank setup whered you get cat stevens anyway, if you bought him how much i've seen them before at pet land discounts. how much does a tank like that cost .
Ok i got a few question for the owner ummm can one of those fish go in a a ten gall tank? where can i buy these? what foods will it like? what are the dos/donts? can i put some feeder goldfish in there to feed it too? i like fish that eat live food are these one of those? are they active?
I kept mine in a ten gallon tank for a year or two before he out grew it. To my knowledge you can't buy them anywhere though. Catfish will pretty much eat anything that's alive or stinky. I feed mine crickets, minnows, worms, etc.
So long as the feeder fish aren't too big, shouldn't be a problem. If they are too big for the catfish to eat, it will terrorize them until they die from stress though.
Bullhead catfish aren't very active during the day.
but i got like idk maybe 20 bullheads and when i walk in the room they all go crazy begging for minnows i got them when they were babies too they were in a small group... ahah
Heheh, you should see him now! Had to move him to the downstairs bathtub he's gotten so big. The tub was never used and now it's been converted to an indoor water garden for him. :D
Aw, cool! I would imagine that would be quite the feeding frenzy.
So the bullheads do pretty well in an aquarium? How big do they get? I have a 150 gallon and am looking for a little larger catfish for it, i already have 2 oscars a bass and a little bluegill, but a catfish would be nice.
They seem to adapt very nicely to them. This one in the video outgrew that ten gallon tank he was in and is now in my downstairs bathtub, which has been converted into an indoor water garden of sorts. x3 I have a younger bullhead in his old tank now. Oh they can get huge, just depends on their enviroment. But they seem to grow a lot more slowly in captive settings. I think one would do great in your 150 gallon! :D Just have to make sure he didn't snack on your little bluegill.
That's cool man. I have six baby catfishes. They are fun to watch. They eat flake and earthworms and they are crazy eaters. They clean up the flakes in less than a second. I also have a fingerling bass and bluegill. Feed the bass tiny minnows.
Awesome! So bullheads love worms huh? No wonder I always catch them when I fish. Your fish looks awesome! If I ever get an aquarium, I'll just put Bullheads in it :D
Nightcrawlers are definitely his favorite food. :)
Thanks very much! They make really cool pets. Just don't plan on keeping any other critter in the tank with them unless it's a LOT bigger than they are. They'll eat anything that they can get a hold of.
Bullheads are very hardy fish so I would imagine that you could but I'm not at all positive on that. I think the temperature would be fine and I imagine the salt would too, but you might try asking someone at a pet store that you trust.
aw! Cat Stevens is so cute!! i was just wondering, what kind of tank that was (in gallons) because im raising catfish (they are tiny babies right know) and i need to get a bigger tank before they grow to big. so if you could message me the size of the tank that would be totally rad!!
The tank in the video is just a ten gallon. He outgrew it pretty quick and is now in the bathtub downstairs which has been converted to a sort of indoor water garden. x3 I need to post a video of that... Careful keeping bullheads together, if any one gets a growth spurt before the others, it will eat them. I had a second, smaller catfish in the tank with Cat Stevens to begin with and he didn't last long. ***shall also message this to ya*** :)
Pretty easy. They definitely aren't picky eaters and so long as they have clean water and a decent sized-tank they are happy. Don't try and keep any other fish with them though. They'll either get eaten or seriously harassed.
I have two now actually. The one in the video(Cat Stevens) now lives in my downstairs bathtub which has been converted into a sort of indoor water garden. :D The second one is very small and lives in Cat Stevens' old tank.
It's just a standard ten gallon. I have a thirty gallon that I'll be putting him in come spring time because he is getting rather cramped in this one.
trawl through snake grass along the base of pylons in most southern lakes with a pool net, youll catch a little one.
