She was a bodybuilding PRODIGY, a rarity because she was a female who naturally carried a phenomenal amount of proportional mass. I'm not sure she was all natural (nearly none were even then) but her genetics were so exceptional she may have been. She was fiercely committed to winning the Olympia , her 1991 defeat to Lenda Murray left her so bitter it threw her into permanent retirement.
Well I agree 100% with her statement years ago that it is ridiculous to dock a female bodybuilder for not being feminine enough. It's even more ridiculous to dock her more for being 'too muscular.' This is a bodybuilding competition, not a 'being feminine/beauty/whatever' competition. The female with the most muscular, most ripped, most proportioned physique should always win, end of. And in the 1991 Olympia, that was clearly Bev Francis.
i agree, it should not be classed as a sport, and it is entertainment, it is very interesting how people look and believe that the people on stage are in such good shape, when really they are quite unhealthy due to dehydration, how else can they get the fat level so low..they have to dehydrate themselves.
face gets a masculine look due to steriods, its a part of the sport(however calling it a sport is also debatable), every pro at this level uses steriods.
I must admit it's a beautiful routine and good music, but I don't see the point of a woman distorting her physique to that extent. Face loses all trace of femininity.
I actually think she still looks "feminine" (whatever that means - technically, as long as a woman still has breasts and female private part, she is "feminine") and I think a lot of people don't realize that muscle is muscle - men and women may generally be different sizes, but there are women who have the genetics to be great bodybuilders, just as there are women who have the genetics to be stronger than most men.

Bev was bigger than the other girls because she was into powerlifting and was a competitive track athlete before she took up bodybuilding. Heavy lifting gives you dense muscles.
If you saw Pumping Iron 2 you wouldn't say that. He was absolutely bonkers about her from the first minute, following her around like a puppy dog. What surprised me is that she actually married him. They have kids, by the way.
Bev has been a pioneer and a major role model for women's bodybuilding. She's had support from her husband all the way. Is he gay? Who knows. Do I care? No. They've made a successful life together in bodybulding. It works for them, and that's what counts.
What does her husband's sexual orientation have to do with it? Nothing. But, if we're talking steroids, yeah, she probably took them back then. I DO NOT DEFEND IT, but steroid use was and still is rampant in all sports. Bev broke down a taboo regarding muscularity in women's bodybuilding, and the sport is better for it. And now we see what bodybuilders of both sexes can do without steroids. That's the goal.
Obviously it's not taboo, because women's harecore bodybuilding is a sport that interests thousands of women and men worldwide. As a woman, I'm not interested in looking like that, but I appreciate the effort that goes into it and it has inspired me to go to the gym and get in shape. If you don't like it, don't look at it. To each their own.
You do know that women who stick to a strict diet and extreme conditioning can achieve amazing levels of muscularity without steroids, right? It is sexist to imply that any female athlete used steroids to achieve a powerful figure. It is prejudiced to imply that a bodybuilder of either gender should be accused of abusing or using steroids unless they have admitted to that use themselves.
Her first show and was she massive and a pioneer of massive FBB. Later on she would down size into something more feminine. She would be back later to a more massive but beautiful physique in 1991 Olympia which was the best show.
I'd love to see how far bodybuilders who are on top now and who have taken steroids and hormones could go if they went natural and it would be interesting to see how they would look.
Always curious why female bodybuilders do what they do. Why do they want all the musles and look more like a man? Never appealed to me, but respect for those who can achieve what they want.
For what the sport is, OK I give it to her, but Maaaan she is ugly...

Bev Francis, what an incredible and talented Bodybuilder. Just curious, do you think she took steroids? I think it's possible she didn't but was just huge because of the heavy weight she lifted. What do you think?

thats modern bodybuilding. The oldschool was more about symmetry and perfection. During that competition Bev was the only one with that size.

That's why fbb's are so much hotter these days. Bev however already knew that nothing is sexier than big muscles! She was far ahead of her time and that's why she is so great!!!

Bev was bigger than the other girls because she was into powerlifting and was a competitive track athlete before she took up bodybuilding. Heavy lifting gives you dense muscles.

If you saw Pumping Iron 2 you wouldn't say that. He was absolutely bonkers about her from the first minute, following her around like a puppy dog. What surprised me is that she actually married him. They have kids, by the way.

Bev has been a pioneer and a major role model for women's bodybuilding. She's had support from her husband all the way. Is he gay? Who knows. Do I care? No. They've made a successful life together in bodybulding. It works for them, and that's what counts.

What does her husband's sexual orientation have to do with it? Nothing. But, if we're talking steroids, yeah, she probably took them back then. I DO NOT DEFEND IT, but steroid use was and still is rampant in all sports. Bev broke down a taboo regarding muscularity in women's bodybuilding, and the sport is better for it. And now we see what bodybuilders of both sexes can do without steroids. That's the goal.

Obviously it's not taboo, because women's harecore bodybuilding is a sport that interests thousands of women and men worldwide. As a woman, I'm not interested in looking like that, but I appreciate the effort that goes into it and it has inspired me to go to the gym and get in shape. If you don't like it, don't look at it. To each their own.

You do know that women who stick to a strict diet and extreme conditioning can achieve amazing levels of muscularity without steroids, right? It is sexist to imply that any female athlete used steroids to achieve a powerful figure. It is prejudiced to imply that a bodybuilder of either gender should be accused of abusing or using steroids unless they have admitted to that use themselves.

Her first show and was she massive and a pioneer of massive FBB. Later on she would down size into something more feminine. She would be back later to a more massive but beautiful physique in 1991 Olympia which was the best show.

Always curious why female bodybuilders do what they do. Why do they want all the musles and look more like a man? Never appealed to me, but respect for those who can achieve what they want.
