Same thing happened to me when I tried to sleep in the back of my Honda Civic. Cop told me I couldn't do that due to city ordinance. Which is funny. So sleeping on the sidewalk in full view of the public is ok, but when I tried to hide myself by crashing in my car thats punishable by jail time? We truly live in a jacked up police state.

Iam glad someone brought this into the light. I love how people used to be in denial of this sort of thing. Thinking it would never happen to them and that homeless people where just failures at life. It still occurs among college kids, they have their little jobs and they live at home and they spend like fools. They think they will always have spare money for fancy cars and clothes and don't think about tomorrow. Most of them can't even bake bread and have no idea about how to truly survive.

I'm having a hard time with believing the black guy who says he is an electrician and can't find any work, (so is homeless.) If he is a certified electrician, one would think that at any given time, even in a poor economy he should not be homeless. He could have business cards made for under $10, have a beater car, put ads on craigslist and do small jobs but require $100/ minmum to help old ladies with swapping out a switch plate. It's so obvious he must have other issues or zero sense.

A guy with a college degree told me after being out of work for 2 years desperately applied at fast food places and was told he was "over qualified!" It could be a vacuum, a picture, almost anything but that is how I get by. I know how tough it is, and I know people who are handymen and do well for themselves (well being can maintain a home and their own care) . I did not say what I said lightly.

I think for the interview they could have chosen someone who represents those of us struggling now in a better light. Police harassment is a big deal. It's even illegal to drive to a truck stop / rest area on the highway to sleep. I mean, it's ok if you're actually traveling from one destination to another, but if you go there to sleep say a few times a week, the police will kick you out or arrest you if you're caught more than once. I was told it's because the homeless were harassing other people, and though that may have been true, it's just not a characteristic of a homeless person asleep in their car.

More homeless people trying to get food in one area, the people feeding them run out of food or money to help, then there is riots. The law is there typically because the city will set up homeless feeding centers where they can get a couple hot meals a day without there being a chance of rioting.
My family is one check away from rock bottom & losing everything-yet we never go out to eat, never go to the movies, never go on vacation, we dont have a new car, hardly ever buy clothes, & now can't buy food any longer. My husband made the drastic decision to tap into his 401k so that we can just get heat this Winter. It's been a mo. since I've had just a can of soup int he house & I fear for my young son's welfare & might have to send him to live with family.

It still occurs among college kids, they have their little jobs and they live at home and they spend like fools. If he is a certified electrician, one would think that at any given time, even in a poor economy he should not be homeless. He could have business cards made for under $10, have a beater car, put ads on craigslist and do small jobs but require $100/ minmum to help old ladies with swapping out a switch plate. It's so obvious he must have other issues or zero sense.

Police harassment is a big deal. It's even illegal to drive to a truck stop / rest area on the highway to sleep. I mean, it's ok if you're actually traveling from one destination to another, but if you go there to sleep say a few times a week, the police will kick you out or arrest you if you're caught more than once. I was told it's because the homeless were harassing other people, and though that may have been true, it's just not a characteristic of a homeless person asleep in their car.

But what is happening here is that the poor people lost a lot of their buying power and this is the main reason for the crisis we have right now...
20 years back the gas was U$ 0.75 a gallon and the minimum was U$ 3,25, so you could get 4 gallons with one hour of work...
Now, the gas is U$ 3.50, then the minimum should be at least U$ 14...

I do get that buying power has been lost and that affects the poor people, raising the minimum wage would not fix that, it would just make the prices go higher and hurt the poor people most. I say "Let the middle class shrink" the only reason American's have had it so good is because they have been sucking the governments tit for 60 years. Look at China-there's no middle class there and yet they have become the super power of the planet. They have surpassed the US by hard work, not government handouts. I will work with my brothers Cantor, Boehner, and Paul Ryan to end all handout programs (social security, medicare) and encourage tax breaks for job creators.

@VivaMydick Where do you get your information? $200,000 per year may be Middle Class in Hollywood or New York City, but most of the US isn't Hollywood or NYC. Most of the Middle Class people in the USA make between $30,000 to $60,000 per year. There are a lot of people who live on minimum wage which is less than $12,000 a year after taxes.

@UniverseOffspring the reason for that is like feeding pigeons, you feed them, they wont go away. It's not bullshit, it's trying to keep authority. More homeless people trying to get food in one area, the people feeding them run out of food or money to help, then there is riots. The law is there typically because the city will set up homeless feeding centers where they can get a couple hot meals a day without there being a chance of rioting.

My family is one check away from rock bottom & losing everything-yet we never go out to eat, never go to the movies, never go on vacation, we dont have a new car, hardly ever buy clothes, & now can't buy food any longer. My husband made the drastic decision to tap into his 401k so that we can just get heat this Winter. It's been a mo. since I've had just a can of soup int he house & I fear for my young son's welfare & might have to send him to live with family.

well Payton ...start by losing the head gear man..most of these people did not just simply lose their jobs...they started abusing some form of drug or another...I personally know quite a few...and it's the same story everytime. Afterall , normal people have friends and family that can always take them in during hard times, but if they do drugs, they steal, lie and burn every bridge in front of them, even family gets tired after a while.seen it too many times in the last 4 yrs, sorry to say.

Oh man that breaks my heart. Why are they being arrested for helping other people? Why is the Government taking so long to help them? They seem to be just relying on feeding them.. Is the food ok? The government hands banks the money for your home to be bailed out but you'll still pay. Christian values are promoted but the charity of Christ rebuked.
