@frank0067 Ok before you run VMware, make sure to remove the "Floppy" section in "Hardware". Also, in the networking part where it sais (Something with a N??!! Sorry forgot :P) Chose the top option. So the wifi would work then.

VMWare Player is freeware. The only difference is that you can't use snapshots. I use VMWare Workstation 7 for my security and server classes.

hmm nice video but why don't just run it from a USB?

I recommend you to run it from a USB because some of you have a built-in WIFI card then airmon-ng wont show you it, but if you run it from a USB it will.

Important: You need to set USB boot up to true in BIOS!

I just had this problem. The final version (which is what we are using, not the beta) auto logs you in when you start it up. So you don't need to login with root/toor. Just type in "startx" as soon as you get on and it will work.

Thanx, just figured it out! Also, if you get an error with "no screen found" just type "fixvesa" and than just type "startx".

I also tried to hack my neighbour's network but with no success, it needs like 1500 beacons for 1-2 data. Used a Toshiba L350D with Atheros AR9281 and Acer 7740 also with Atheros card.

@Anon12356 Be careful to change your Wifi cards MAC address both for when you are picking up beacons, and also when you use it to surf the web as normal... You never know when you are hacking a military officer or other person who is likely to notice the attack and investigate. I've had some close calls before.

Just write it to a CD and save ur self a lot of time, just hit F8 twice when ur first boot screen comes up. adn then choose Cr/dvd rom thingy. instead of ur hard disk ( which should come up as HDD at the beginnning. and by the way, WEp/WPA cracking can be done on any linux distro. But Backtrack does make it easier. I just wish my cap level would allow me to download another distro, after downloading fedora core, i think im goonna have to top up :P
