  • Nice rifle.. Love those old Winchester lever actions.. I have an 1894 saddle ring carbine, an 1892, and a marlin 39a golden Mountie...

  • you're an idiot

  • mine was made in 1939.

  • Mine was built in 1981 and doesnt have the safety button. Just a half cocked hammer for "Safety".

  • ive got two from 1916 and 1906 and it still shoot great today. One of them even has a pop up sight on the back of the rifle on the but for long range shots. its a great gun

  • dont shoot it its a collectors item

  • I'm a bit of a gun newb. Just inherited one of these. What do you feel is the ideal ammo for one of these made prior to 1969?

Also any helpful info you want to pass onto a gun novice?

  • I got this gun from my dad and it was passed down from his dads dad and

it is one hell of a gun

  • i have a model 94 .375 built in 83, i love it. strong enough to kill anything xD

  • I might buy on of these used for 425$

  • my model 94 was made in 1969 and there is no safety button on it.

the safety comes from not squeezing the lever before you shoot, if you don't squeeze it down you can't pull the trigger.

by far my most favorite rifle that I own.

    great video

  • just got one of those today for my 18th birthday. pretty stoked, i need a cleaning rod and some ammo now.

  • my 30-30 has no safety just the thing that you pull back if u want to shoot when it is not back its on safety when it is back its ready to fire very good gun by the way

  • Best rifle ever made in my opinion !!!

  • My model 94 was made in 1897 and i still shoot and hunt with it today and that thing works great i wouldnt trade it its a great gun alot of fun to shoot and never have had any proplems with it theyre smooth shooting and really nice and light for carrying and hold a good amount of ammo :D

  • @thoresf damn man that is awesome!!! I'd love to have a model 94 from the 1800's

mind is just a little older than that it was made in 1964

  • Here are the serial numbers for the changes,

SERIAL 4,580,000 CHANGES TO COIL HAMMER SPRING

The cross bolt comes in at serial # 6000000

SERIAL 6,000,000 CHANGES TO REBOUNDING HAMMER AND CROSS BOLT SAFETY

  • i got my grandfather's, its a great gun

  • my dad had a model 94 that was surprisingly bad. he tried ejecting a round once and it went off and busted a brand new tire on a jeep. but i think he didnt cock it all the way

  • Gunsmith work LOL worth fixing though if ya still got the rifle.

  • My uncle "stole" it from my grandfather. Should have been mine. I shall own one someday. Marvelous weapon.

  • very nice gun. how long is that barrel? is it a 20 or a 24 inch?

  • 20"

  • how many rounds does the 20" hold?

  • 8, 1 in the chamber 7 in the mag

  • good work!

  • a GD safety on a lever action exposed hammer rifle is stupid it is only put on this rifle to please lawyers.

  • pre 90s like my dads from the 70s have the half cock safety and the non angled ejection they're the better version in my opinion

  • Mine is a 1973 model it has the alloy loading gate I beleive but the rest of the rifle is made to 70's specs.

The Pre 90's rifles and the 70's models are slicker actions and better rifles in my opinion too. The last big change in 94's was in 1964 when the alloy loading gate was introduced. There is a site that can decipher the serial numbers and give exact year of Manufacture dates.

Hang on to that 70 model!

  • I have a model 94, 32 spl. I don't know what year it was made and I cant find the safety. :)

  • Safety's were added in the early 90's. Serial #'s are difficult to track post 1983. If yours is side ejection, it would be difficult to determine mfg. date if it's between 1983 to early 90's. I just bought a used 30-30 because it DIDN'T have a safety. Newer ones have a tang safety.

  • it probably has a half cock position on the hammer

  • I have a Winchester Model 1894 and checked its Serial Number and found out that it was manufactured in 1967!

  • Good thing I bought one of these and should be picking it up this weekend, I'm also worried about being insufficiently armed for the inevitable zombie invasion "swine Flu". Also look into the IAC 12 gauge, another must have.

  • Zombies are best engaged with an M-2A-7

An IAC 12 is what you would use to clean up the twitchers with. LOL

  • Damn it! These badass rifles aren't in production anymore..What am I gonna use to headshot zombies now?

  • are you sure this is a 94? because I have one and it looks a lot different than yours. also yours looks newer mine.

  • The "94" Model has been constantly updated since its original production.

  • huh I got a sears 54 [winnie with sears stamped on it] and it dosnt have a safety does that mean it's pre 64

  • nice gun, nice presentation

  • I have several 1894's all pre '64's and none have that style of safety , they have the half cock feature. Nice gun, nice presentation.

  • same.

  • i have a winchester 22mm. but i need to buy a part but i dont know the name of the part, i have a pic of it, could i have some help.

  • Numrich arms might help you.

  • I have a 1955 model 1894 that I got from my grandfather.A awesome gun,but it dosent have the side safety shown on yours. And I cant use a scope with it but thats no biggie its still accurate out to a good distance.

  • hold on to it. The pre 1964 are more desirable and valuable from what I've seen.

  • actually you can put a scope on it,you can get a pistol scope down the barel or you can get a side mounted scope

  • good video presentation

  • Excellent presentation dude

  • yeah i figured as much...it has to be a pretty recent model because of the saftey...id never seen that on the model 94...look out for my new video about my 1951 model 94 im gettin!! and if you get bored go ahead and check out my other vids...lol....

  • What year model 94 is this??

  • It was a gift... I estimate 1995?

  • My model 94 does not have a button safety. Granted I assume the safety is either aftermarket or something that was done post-1979. It does have the second safety you pointed out.

Is this a angled ejection model or is yours not scope friendly either?

  • The Winchester 94 in the video is rather new from a production standpoint, so I have no doubt that the mechanical button safety is a "modern upgrade". I believe if the lever-action model is old enough, there is not a safety at all.

Angled ejection =) although I do not have any optics on it yet. I've contemplated putting a peep sight on it.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • even the first models made over 100 years ago had a safety. not a button like this one but they do have half cock.

  • @OrbitalMechanics You are correct. The cross-bolt "lawyer safety" was added in the 1980's. Before that, you had the (entirely adequate) half-cock safety.

Lyman peep sights are a fantastic upgrade for these rifles. Don't scope your levergun, it really ruins the balance and handling of these handy little weapons. Lyman peeps are more than adequate at all practical ranges if YOU do your part.
