  • Veryyy Satch

  • A genuine MIJ ESP will satisfy my shred needs FOR LIFE!!! Fantastic instruments!!!

  • ESP horizon owns every guitar :D

  • sounds steve vai ish! very good man!!!!

  • Chappers what effects and tone ideas where you using ?

  • the orange amp became blue..haha

  • One word: MAJESTIC.

  • When you say lydian shred, you mean (example) A lydian, not A scale?or Lydian modes from various Keys?

  • This is beautiful. I'm quite jealous of your Orange head as well. Is the cab also by them?

  • thanks for the examples of how to use this mode, i've only started my modal studies this helped a lot thanks rob :)

  • I have the same guitar except it has a fixed bridge. This instrument sings so beautifully it makes my heart melt, and in professional hands like yours its close to Armageddon...:D Really nice, thumbs up!

  • This is just my normal vision...

  • Hi I am considering buying either the horizon or a discontinued mirage custom. Which would you suggest?

  • I wasn't expecting much from this, concidering the other videos of people 'shredding', but I must say, this was surprisingly tasteful, beautiful stuff.

  • haha, i was on a mac at the moment I watched this, and was able to negative the colors back to their original form. hahaha. Cool song man :)

  • So whatever did happen to your Orange gear? Did you just up and sell it one day in favor of the Marshall stuff, or do you still have it and don't plan on having it on camera anytime soon?

  • amazing video!

  • Rob, I think you kick ass ! But I'm a beginner guitarplayer, so could you give me some advice on how to become a guitargod like yourself? :-) thx mate

  • I think your action fucked up halfway through the vid :3

  • Do you play Lydian over diminished chords?

  • do u use the orange amps live?

  • backing track effects are way too loud and irritating

  • So if you're soloing in c major and you wanted to play Lydian mode, you would use a G Lydian scale?

  • @internetphill No you would play C Lydian, which would be the G major "scale"

G Lydian has a sharp C# and F# degree, which would conflict with your tonal center C natural and your subdominant F natural of the C major scale.

You would want to play G major SCALE, over C major progression(with no F note) it'd be better to learn the difference though because G major is not C Lydian, it uses the same notes and is a good memory tool, but in theory and interval structure its an incorrect description.

  • @internetphill

Nope. You'd take C Major and raise the fourth scale degree a half step. Here,

    Major: C D E F G A B

    Lydian: C D E F# G A B

G major isn't the C Lydian scale, they just have the same notes but not the same structure.

  • that is eargasmic.

  • Reminds me of the album cover to Steve Vais Flex-able

  • This video is the most psychedelic thing I have seen on the internet.

    very inspiring!

  • I agree

  • i absolutely love ur tone in this video can u briefly outline what gear are you running including ur guitar? would be greatly appreciated

  • are the slightly cheaper ESP LTDs any good say £350 worth?

  • seriously where can i get tht backing track?

  • thats incredible..you literally made the guitar talk. unbelievable. you truly are amazing:) I look up to you so much:D

  • Can someone explain to me how you can play in a mode rather than playing in a whole scale without staying in the physical positioning of that one mode in the context of a scale if that makes sense? I mean how can u play in c Lydian and not e minor/g major without staying in one position playing the notes of e minor starting on a c note?

  • an E minor scale does not only have Es in it so you can choose on wich of the many notes you want to start.

  • WAT?????

  • nevermind I figured it out... it was a bitch to mentally grasp tho

  • if thats your wife filming that rob she is a mastermind with the camera ! the vid flows very nicely!

  • It's called editing.... ;)

  • Very cool vid Mr. Chappers \m/ \m/

  • Chappers my main man, how one such as myself go about making this backing track?

  • Dude you can download this from my site! ;-)

  • Cheers

  • @RobChappers i know how to play in modes for the most part but for some reason the lydian scale gives me trouble. i think it may be cuz i dont know many licks within this scale any suggestions or theories? thanx man.

  • @RobChappers I can't seem to find it anywhere though...plz link =)

  • @DaTimeHat if you have access to fruity loops 7,8 you can find a patch in the sytrus proram called "Dark haven 2" This patch will produce extremely deep, dark and psychedelic backin for the lydian mode. Can't help with the drum loop, for some reason my brain doesn't want to assimilate percussion.

If you come across it, I strongly suggest you go F major, A major. I can get pretty emotinal with this simple progression. If you wan't a simple turnaround use C-A Major

  • u are amazing, one thing i really like about ur playing is that u dont need to try to show off it shows automatically its not about playing fast or what not, its about playing it smoothe and making music =]

  • may i ask what tuning are you using Mr.Chappers?

  • If Rob isnt available to make your drone backing tracks,,, email me...I can do it, if he isnt available. It wont cost to much, and can really help you as a player. I use these with my students, all the time.

  • Now that is one trippy video!!!

  • Haha I was thinking the same ;-)

Great improv and video Rob keep em coming.

    I subscribed.

  • i realy don't understand why this video only has 4,6k views...

pleeease use the thing you do at 0:25 and 0:52 in some complete song sometime! it sounds realy awesome !,,!

  • Thanks mate, Yeah I like this tune as well... I'm working on recording it as a whole tune, I lucked out when I improved this! ;-)

  • @RobChappers

    fastest written song?>

  • great video and playing most importantly

  • Thanks mate ;-)

  • at 0:33 if you actually played a guitar like that then i would be a bit scared of your godlike skills

  • um is this by chance in b Lydian im just judging by site but like it looked like you started in an em shape cause of the first lick then the c major arpeggio ....i only been playin for a year and im sixteen so please dont judge ....

  • Rob, can I actually ask how well a floyd with an unblocked tremolo stays in tune. And how easy is it to tune, what with the locking nut....

  • They are great as long as they are setup correctly ;-)

  • how do you get that orgasmic sustain?

  • Lots of volume ha ha ;-)

  • that vid and the playing...cool as fuck dude

  • amazing tremolo work, very steady and melodic

  • nice playing :D

  • That is just amazing, im surprised you usually block off your trems if you can use one like that! Awesome control!

  • love this one, nice tune rob.

  • any chance this'll be on itunes?!

  • reminds me of having magic mushrooms for breakfast one day, far in the past , before I became all sensible oink moooo weeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • 0:26 i just sweeeet! very spacy and fun to listen to. BTW i didn't knew esp were doing blue horizon with gold hardware, white emg and maple fretboard =D

  • watching this in HD is so epic

  • Very space age soundy. Awesome job.

  • Chappers, this may sound stupid but, a lesson on good whammy work would be great.

  • love this

  • Thanks mate :-)

  • sound amazing man, love how you used the trem very interesting sound

  • OMG The monkey lord actually used his tremolo system!

Hence Forth, Let This Be Known As Chappers Used his Floyd...Day!

  • The lydian mode is one of the most beautiful sounding modes period.. yet I have trouble using it in a death metal context :( lol

  • rob how loud did u have ur amp

  • It was on 3 and a half :-)

  • sounds a little like steve vai but rob chappers your an amazing guitar player!!

  • Steve Vai uses lydian a lot to :) actually I think steve vai wouldn't be steve vai without lydian mode.

    Shred on

  • Sounds more C Lydian.

  • Yeah that's right, except I am tuned down a half step :-)

  • So C minor lydian? =-)

  • lydian is lydian, it's not minor or major.

  • thats correct

    however it's a major scale with a sharp 4

just thought i might add that

  • @fend14 since it contains major 3rd, it is indeed major

  • @fend14 Has a major third and a major seventh though. You could play a major chord over it. It's more Major than minor, if anything. I think it's radical to not call it major or minor. It's the IV scale that goes with the IV chord of the major scale! IV = major. Let me know what ya think, I don't mean any disrespect.

  • @fend14 Lydian is just basic major scale with 4th raised up half step

  • @fend14 Lydian is a major mode, the same way lydianb7 is a minor mode, i know what you're saying though, people get a bit too caught up in these arguments! Lydian is...EPIC! :d

  • @fend14 And what type of chord can you play over ? Minor.

  • @fend14 What type of chord are played over so ?

  • its a major mode. so its more major than minor if you had to pick

  • well if you want to be technical here, minor is a major mode.

  • it is indeed. I wasnt trying to outsmart anyone. They guy asked a question, i was giving him an answer

  • F Lydian, am I right?

  • Reminds me of Satch a bit...probably the mode you were in. Awesome shred'n eh?

  • cool cheers man

  • yeh wud u be able 2 put that backing track up for download is rele awsome man did u make it urself?

  • Hi the backing track will be on my website really soon :-)

  • dude you need to send me that backing track

    i loveeeee it

im in love with you rob!

    no homo no homo

  • Can't wait for the modal improv lessons!

  • Chappers, what kinda cable did you use to hook up your guitar to your computer? Or are you micing youramp and here's a plug built into the mic? =D That solo was freaking awesome! Nice Garage Band skills! :-)

  • nice job satch! :D

  • I youtube'd win pie and this came up

  • Ha ha!! OMG responsibility AHHHhhhh

  • What program did you use for the backtracking that you made?

  • Garage band FTW

  • daem i wish i had a floyd rose

  • I liked your tone better when you had PRS, but at least ESP kicks ass too and you're still the same great guitar master. :)

  • Well done, sir. You continue to be my biggest hero and greatest inspiration.

  • that is brilliant rele different from most solos almost has a modern hendrix feel 2 it

  • This sounds almost like something you'd hear on a Vai or Satch album.

  • Wow, very awesome Chappers =)

    You are indeed a master.

  • Thanks mate, I appreciate that ;-)

  • Is there love in space , I think so lol nice playng Rob love the lydian mode flying in a blue dream is my favourite satch tune .

  • AWESOME.

    Satriani/Vai quality..

  • sweet dude nicely done

is that your red horizon but you reversed the tremelo block

  • Yes that's right mate, since I have 3 hardtails now I thought it might be a good idea to have one trem ;-)

  • thats sick i also like how you use the tremlo :)

  • This was freaking awesome!

  • Go Chappers Go!!

  • Hmmm! Satcharific!!

  • you should get a guitar like that man

  • awesome mate, very "Joe" sounding, and lovely subtle trem work - bravissimo!

  • thought you hated floyd's

  • someone posted a forum on the forums about it and rob said he was going to put a bar on his guitar.

a few hours later and this video is up. suspicious? I think so.

  • bar on his guitar???

  • The floyd tremlo bar, he usualy blocks them off. Also really good video Rob

  • oh thx

  • Ha ha.. that's right, I took it as a challenge to play with my bar again.. Trems don't come naturally to me.

  • he does but he got a horizon with a string through so he unblocked this one

  • my eyes are on fire!

  • Very, very Steve Vai at times.

    Great playing.

  • It's very hard not to sound like Vai of Satch when using Lydian.

  • Hard to make stuff --Nearly-- as good as them though :D
