The Kindle will work, in the sense that I'll be able to read whatever books are on the device.

Great idea, but $400 is a bit steep. I'd want to a) be able to convert any books I already own to e-books and b) be given monthly credit towards book download purchases, as well s free access to certain newspapers and magazines.
