"You want to become a jazz great"??, You're already a jazz great!!. Keep up the good work. I think charlie parker spirit is deeply planted in you. You're special!!
I think Jazz is just telling your story your way(or someone else's story your way). Nothing to do with being the best. Charlie Parker, Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, Louis Armstrong, Art Pepper etc all told very different stories. I have my favourites but would never say one was better than another. - Otherwise, lovely playing, nice flute.
wow your so good! I play the sax too! But I didn't learn it in two months. Well the most basic notes. But Dang your so good. My best friend plays the flute and she learned it in
Thanks for ckecking out the video and commenting. That footage was over a 1 1/2 year old. I'm hear myself in the footage and hate the way I sound. I'm working to post some newer footage.
Damn you're 13?? Wow man lol. That's AMAZING for a 13 year. To even understand what jazz IS when you're 12 or 13 is crazy. Keep it up, you even look like parker a little.
You sound great. Just have fun and make as much music as you heart allows. You are a natural. You remond me of myself at your age but better. Listen to all of the greats like Sidney Bechet, Lester Young, Herchel Evans, Illinios Jacquet, Arnett Cobb, David Fathead Newman, Jonny Griffith, Sonny Stitt, Ben Webster, Coleman Hawkins and Eddie Harris. There are more but these guy play very melodic and bluesy.
You are on your way!!!!!!!!!! Keep going young brother.
I'm really proud to see a young brother like you DJ continue the Jazz tradition. I'm sure the great ones -- Mile, Coltrane, Parker, The Duke, The Count & all the rest are looking down are cheering you on from the other side. Keep your eyes on the prize and I believe you will be great also. Thank you for sharing your gift.
wow, thats REALLY cool. I think that your flute playing is a bit choppy, and not quite as smooth as your sax performances, but I suppose smoothing out the flute playing will come with practice. But, still, this is incredibly cool! I would listen to the whole documentary, but, I'm not sure I'll have that kind of time till summer vacation comes around. You've got the stuff to do music. Rock on.
wow!! i am very impressed. i have been playing the sax for 6 years now and probably close to as well as you play. i want to learn the tecniques of jazz but i dont know where or how to. lol i also am going to set my new goal to learn the flute. lol i also play the drums. i dont get into them as much though. you keep up the good work.
Yes jessiethejoker..that me on the video. Some of the footage I was i think 11 yrs old. Most of it was 12/13 years. The documentary is dated, but I enjoyed doing it. The documentary has been shown to several youth organizations. The full length documentary is on Googles. Take a look when you have free time to waste. The full length is 20 minutes long.

Nice work. However, Jazz shouldn't be about "being the best". All the same, sounding great =)
