I used to own '97 318is coupe, it handled great but was always underpowered even when compared to my friend's 320i wagon which was quite a bit heavier. The 6cyl just has much more torque in lower rpm range. I'm more than sure that F20c is definitely a much better(newer, more hi-tech) engine compared to the anemic m44. No match to the S50 though :D

Keep in mind that most countries in the world tax their cars annually based on engine size.. I've lived in Japan, Korea, Singapore, US, and France.. US is the only country that does not do this.. Singapore, which where I live now, have huge difference in tax between 1.6 and 2.0 engine.. Almost $1500 a year.. now you push that up to 5.0.. OMG.. that's alot of money...
@fereloso the F20 is superior then many straight six's. BMW to this date has never made an engine that produce 100 horsepower to the wheels per liter. This is a feat in mechanical engineering.
In fact this motor should have just stayed in the s2000 as that car a lighter and superior chassis.
@TheHarooni the s2000 makes 240bhp with 2.0 liters. put it on a dyno and its 200 whp, 100 whp per liter. I doubt the M3s straight six makes 300whp but definitely not 320whp which would put it on the hondas horsepower per liter ratio
@TheHarooni a quick search reveals that the m3 you're referring to makes 280whp. 80 more horsepower from 1.2 more liters you see what Im getting at.

People, relax. Its not an M3. look at the spec list at :57 and 1:04, you'll see it says 318is in there. I have one, it comes with a 1.9l inline 4 (96 and up, 92-95 used a 1.8l) and isnt anything special. Trust me, you have more options with the F20C. I'm having a hell of a time finding aftermarket parts for my car. They also swap SR20's into these chassis, and I've even seen triple rotor mazda engines in them. Chill.

the bmw 4 cylinder M42 or M44 he swapped out is a much more capable engine than the one he swapped in. quite a pointless conversion, even more pointless than a chevy V8 swap.
