For the first time in my life I voted. I voted for Barrack Obama. I do not regret that decision. There will always be leaders of countries out there like North Korea. Any decision made by the President will with no doubt have negative consequences. I believe a full scale invasion is the only solution. Take our troops out of the middle east. Two things: Recycling MUST become mandatory, and what can't be recycled must not be produced, ie styrofoam. Get prisoners to sort through the landfills for recyclables. We should incinerate what's left so as landfills will be ash, not GARBAGE. Packaging and fast food containers should be minimized. Secondly, we need to return to organic farming. Compost, manure, and seaweed are free! Synthetic fertilizers create run-off which damage our fresh water! Cafeterias can donate compost to local farms.

The issue with North Korea wont be solved unless we use military action which will cost Obama a lot of supporters. The "president" Iran deserves would not be much different than the man they currently have because all candidates must be approved by a group (can't think of the name right now) who only allow those with views similar to theirs to run.
These are 2 completely different situations and our subs were "running drills" (aka shooting at theirs and vice versa) throughout that time. My dad was on them so there was definitely military action being taken although it is not commonly known info.

Two things: Recycling MUST become mandatory, and what can't be recycled must not be produced, ie styrofoam. Get prisoners to sort through the landfills for recyclables. We should incinerate what's left so as landfills will be ash, not GARBAGE. Packaging and fast food containers should be minimized. Secondly, we need to return to organic farming. Compost, manure, and seaweed are free! Synthetic fertilizers create run-off which damage our fresh water! Cafeterias can donate compost to local farms.

The two situations are completely different because, they are different countries with different leaders (for us and them) who have different thought processes. The reasons for the actions of North Korea are also different from the reasons of the Cold War.

No two countries are identical, but there are many common features. The same was true of Yugoslavia, which was once very fanatical and antagonistic to the west. Eventually it reached a tipping point, and the communist government, built on a cult of personality around Tito, collapsed. Ditto for Romania and Ceausescu. It happens. You're right, everything doesn't have to end with a bang but when the leader of a country is shooting missles around and has numclear power and already said that he is not going to be a part of multi-nation talks, something more than talking has to be done.

The leader of the DPRK is about to drop dead, and the establishment has no confidence in his designated successor. The population is literally starving, the missiles couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, their reactors use 1940s technology, they used up their entire supply of uranium on underground tests, and the U.S is about to start inspecting their ships at sea.
Does this sound like an IMMINENT threat?

Is it an imminent threat to the countries in the area? Yes
That is what we do; we use our military power to look out for other countries. Should we be as involved with other countries' problems? I don't know, but we have the big brother role in the world and that won't change any time soon.

Well, that's another thing we'll just have to agree to disagree on, then. Obviously we need to be there when it counts, but we should NOT set ourselves up to be the world's policeman on a singular and full time basis. When you do that, people blame EVERYTHING that goes wrong in the world on the USA, because it was (apparently) America's duty to prevent it from happening. You get blamed for hegemony and incompetence at the same time.

Heh, well I just didn't see where that response came from. All I said was there are BETTER reasons for not killing people than just "it'll cause a slump in our trade with Asia, and cause further devaluation of the dollar." Was he DISAGREEING?
(And I wasn't accusing him of that, either. The clause "Among other reasons, OF COURSE" was put there specifically so that he wouldn't think I was accusing him of calousness. *Shrug*)
