He won 2 championships with inferior cars, in '87 the williams team PROHIBITED HIM from driving the way he liked it, and that's why he was winning Mansell in the first 5 races and later on, Mansell trashed him. EVEN THOUGH he won the championship BY A LARGE MARGIN.

Piquet WAS a real driver. He was not the strategist Prost was, or the fast Senna was, but he was COMPLETE. Most complete driver F1 ever saw. Not the best, but close enough.

Out of the three championships, there was 46 races. He won 11 times (25% of races) and was on the podium 26 times ( more then55% orf the races) Especially in 87 when he was on the podium 11 out of 16 times. Where where you qualify, basically tells you where you will finish, unless you pass on the first turn, after that the field stays stagnent, and the race is already over before it started. Back then anyhting could happen, have a few bad weeks, but if your consistent, hell you still have a chance. today 1 bad finish and your fucked. Back in the day these guys had so much raw talent, there was no need for luck, jsut a big set of balls.

Actually, that's not right. Piquet made a decision early in his career, and especially at Williams, to drive to however the race was playing out. Not that pretty or memorable, but it brought in the points. Have a look at his famous pass of Senna at Budapest '86 to see that huge talent was there - it's just that he didn't always show it - sadly. Mansell screwed up more chances than he deserved before finally walking it to the title, in a car 2 secs quicker than the rest of the grid.

During the Driver's Parade lap at the Silverstone GP 2010. Alonso's Ferrari cap blew off in a gust of wind. Kubica picked it up and put it on over his Renault cap for like 2 or 3 seconds. This was amid rumours of Robert's move to Ferrari from Renault which as we now know didn't hold water but still a funny gag to play to the media.

I've got a lot of respect for Piquet. Stylish driver. He is one of the greats but you're right, his record isn't that respected. His pass on Senna in Hungary 86 shows he was a driver of real force, when he wanted. He did just enough to win, always leaving some in reserve. Not the way to grab hearts but it worked - in '87 he raced for points, instead of wins and it paid off against Noige.
