Bolin's playing on CTTB is really nice, but nowhere near Blackmore's style. They should have called themselves something else on that album, it's good but not Deep Purple. Sadly, Bolin playing live with them was a fucking disaster, it sounded awful, and he could hardly play at all.

@61Slughi If you listen to Bolin's other projects, he certainly wasn't into metal... and he was also struggling with drug adiction, which eventually killed him. Yeah, everyone in the band was getting disillusioned... the last show Lord just drove off after the show without talking to anyone (fro what I've read.) There's a concert they did in Long Beach where he sounds pretty good, look for it.

BOLIN SOUNDS GREAT ON BOLIN ERA DEEP PURPLE SONGS FROM "COME TASTE THE BAND"...IN BOTH PERFORMANCES THE SOLO IS LACKING THE PRECISION OF BLACKMORE. IT'S NOT EVEN CLOSE TO BEING NOTE FOR NOTE!!! THE POINT IS THAT ANY GUITARIST TRYING TO REPLICATE BLACKMORE"S SOLO IS NEVER GOING TO SOUND EXACTLY LIKE BLACKMORE! BOTH GUITARISTS ARE GREAT IN THEIR OWN UNIQUE WAY.

Bolin never performanced nice in DP. So bad mistake had included him in Deep Purple. I never understood why. This shit can do any guitar player begginer.

Bolins' playing is better than "Last concert ..." but he's still struggling to put something interesting together on the solo . The fx seem like a deliberate attempt to mask this. Such a tragic waste of talent.
