  • wow... they are building like 300 of these windmills around Van Wert Co., USA , and building very quickly too. Hope none of them FAIL like this ! Wonder what wind speeds they are rated for?

  • @aleloooooooooya - Your ignorance is incredible. Statistically, these turbines are 4 times more dangerous to humans than nuclear power. Structural failures can fling the blades up to a mile away from the turbine. Look at this video again, watch where the blades go!

    Not to mention when ice builds up on the blades, the turbines fling that too, cutting people in half.

    Nuclear power is the cleanest, safest, cheapest form of energy available to us, regardless of what you might think!

  • @DraconiusKrynar of course is very safe to store tons of radioactive waste under the floor. More safe is when you know that we produce it faster than it degrades.

    That awful problem you mention about the wind turbines is of easy solution. I supose this is an old turbine, as Denmark was one of the pioneers with this kind of energy. Otherwise it would have a simple system of blade rotation that regulates the blade reaction to the wind and helps to mantain a safe speed on storms like this.

  • @DraconiusKrynar Where do you get your statistics? how many people have wind turbines killed? 16 worldwide how many people has the Chernobyl incident killed? UNSCEAR say 63 so far with 6000 cases of thyroid cancer, and that is the most reserved report, you want to read Greenpeace's report, and that's one incident, it kinda dwarf's the 16 from wind energy. Wind, wave, hydro and solar are the cleanest, but your right on the cheapest part, after all that's what matters right? lol

  • These things are built so they can adjust the angle on the blades so they can work at almost any wind speed of shutdown completely if necessary. Something must have malfunctioned internally stopping it from doing so.

  • @wrangle2angle Hey i am from denmark myself this was far from me. in the news they said that there was a malfunction in the brakes.

  • thats why they should be shut off when a storm occurs; at least they do that around here.

  • i saw this video on Destroyed in Seconds on Discovery Channel and they'd replayed it in Slowmo and then you could see that one of the blades just splinters and a few milisecs later the rest also gave up and 1 propeller struck then the tower itself lol..

  • I read in my paper about our own runway windmill near Tehachapi, Calif., which closed down a freeway Sun. nite. Apparently the windmill actually blows up, thus the blades & stuff would b flying everywhere. I thought the "propeller" would just detach from the axle & b spinning around, like something out of "Krull."

  • My dad told me about this today (He works in a windmill company at white waters... Some small company in the southern cali desert). When I saw this video...Wow, this is insane. Now I don't want to try to climb inside a windmill.

  • Those windmills are huge! I'm surprised it hasn't been tested for these kinds of situations.

  • Usually they are controlled with computers to adjust the pitch of the blades so that if the wind gets over a certain speed they don't do this. I guess this is one that was not controlled and just is allowed to spin at what the wind is pushing.

  • Ah, alright. I did a little research and it turns out that these are an older model that are no longer in production. They don't have the pitch controls like the new models that are being built today. Which are actually quite larger than these.
