  • 9-5 iS SUICIDE!! who cares how much money you make!?! this guy is livin' the dream!

ALWAYS FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS :D lets goooo

  • @VeryFreeBird Agreed: the less I have the better I feel and i have, well just a backpack and the road since 2004. Rock on!

  • Have you ever had any sketchy rides? On several occasions I've been picked up by gay guys who make it quite clear that they want to pay me for sex. And on two occasions I've had guys pull over, then when I get up to the car they have their pants down and they're jacking off. And I've also turned down a few rides because I got a wierd vibe from the driver. Have any of these things ever happened to you?

  • @raider2661 I've had some gay guys looking for action before, but no one dangerous or aggressive. I suppose if I was into it these would be the best rides ever, instead they're just funny stories or forgettable.

  • im 16 and i wana run away/ hitchhike my way from where i live now (near springfield missouri) to where i used to live st.louis missouri, for the freedom and adventure of it, should i?

  • @moopy141 Life is up to you, sounds fun, but bare in mind it may be illegal - since you're under 18 it can technically be considered kidnapping I think for the person who may pick you up. You may wanna check it out, then balance the consequence against the risk and how much you actually care.

  • I don't bring a sleeping bag, I bought a gore tex jacket it goes to -40 and its really tough fabric plus it goes to my knees...

  • Oh this is gold. Thank you. I'm heading out for the first time, on my own, and I am nervous. Your video was helpful. What was your first time like...were you nervous a lot?

  • @DoctorMatty first time was good, a kitchen on wheels picked me up in LA towards Santa Monica. Wasn't nervous, just curious to see it work. First big trip was from California to Oklahoma, just excited for the fun on that one too. Have a great time on your trip!

  • thanks a 1000

  • I'm about to hitchhike half way across the North American continent wish me luck!

  • is it safe for a thirteen year old boy hitchhike about 10 miles alone

  • @shotgundrumboy in the states I think hitching under 18 is considered kidnapping to the person picking up, not totally sure, but may deter some people

  • @shotgundrumboy only do it if u have to. take a bus

  • @shotgundrumboy probably not safe kid, and I've hitched all over the u.s. wait till you'tr older (read: bigger)

  • Ive hitch hiked.

  • thanks for the (indirect) advice. i'm planning on running off to new york from dayton, ohio and when catching a one-way Greyhound through WV and PA ended up a lost cause, i've made my decision to hitchhike all the way there. this has given me some wonderful information:)

  • So do you absolutely feel like you need money? Is it possible to do it without anything?

  • @iloveny22 it's up to you, but it's certainly possible. If you don't have any bills, like phone or student loans, then you should be good.

  • what would you say is the average time you ahve to wait for a ride?

  • @miggetymike1 30 minutes, it varies a lot though. Sometimes one person is dropping you off and another is already pulling over, and sometimes you're waiting a couple hours or more

  • how can i get rid of cops away when they start harassing me?

  • @eulex10 try to avoid being harassed in the first place, cops are usually pretty cool, at least my experience hitching in the US when I interact with them. When they come to talk to you, treat them like they're their to help you out

  • @kenflannery my experience is different.i was harrased searched with pockets too just for walking on a road.maybe because i m black and you white.America is racist country after all.

  • Gotta love the road, thumb up, wind in your hair, and no idea what's going to happen next. Hitching is great! I've always had good experiences with the people that pick me up, some will even get you stoned or give you a cold beer! Kerouac 4 ever...

  • @climber073 reminds me of going through oregon and cali.

  • dude hitchhike through mexico with me

  • Leaving Baton Rouge for NM - CO - north CA - and then who knows. Super stoked.

  • him gonna hitch hike and im 14 i dun wath will be my experience but i will do it i do this for a girl will be my frist time and i dun wath to except im starting in n-b to go to montreal in quebec so ya might toook like 2 days but still imma be with her :)

  • sweet vid

  • hey man im thinking of hitchiking myself what food do you recommend i throw into my 40 (ish) litre pack ?

  • depends on where you are, where you're going, things like that. A loaf of bread can be good, granola bars, peanut butter, ramen if you think you can cook it somewhere. Like I said, depends if you're hitching a few hundred miles, or will be hitching for the next few weeks, months, years...

  • Nice video man

  • I hitchhiked from Estonia to Spain 3 weeks ago - had a time of my life.... I thought hitchhiking in the States is illegal, or at least some states?

  • @MCrue2 Lots of things are illegal in the states ; )

  • Thanks for the video! My friend and I hitchhiked from Chicago to New Orleans but Katrina hit New Orleans we still got to hang out there for like a week in a half but we had to ditch the place. Now we're hitchhiking from Chicago to Detroit then from Detroit to San Fran. I'm a bit worried about the Desert but your video made me feel better! Thanks!

  • I prefer to make a giant cardboard thumb

  • Hi ya im 19 years old guy form england. Me and my friend Tim are going to go traveling around europe this summer. were planning on getting train passes for a month. do you think we should get train tickets that cost £350 or hitch hike despite the language barrier. also only hitch hiked once before and that was in England. cheers. also any other good spots to sleep. last time me and my m8s were traveling europe we slept beside rivers and in woods but wild bores can be a problem in woods. cheers

  • I dont think you'll be having a lot of problems if you speak english. Most ppl will understand you.

  • Hej man..! ;) there`s no problem with english language in Europe... ;) I`ve been traveling in some countries but I had no problems to communicate with people... ;) There`s a problem in Spain or in Italy because people there do not like picking hitchhiker`s...so you will spend there a little bit more time trying to catch some one... ;) Good luck!

  • wow. this is sweet. I've always been so hesitant to try this but this is really encouraging. I thought no one gave hitchikers rides anymore.

  • Hey Great vid! :) I have been wanting to hitchhike for some time now, but never got up the courage, money, time, etc to actually go for it. I was also afraid to be by myself for that long of a time. its like the "into the wild" movie where the guy goes by himself and then realizes later on that he didnt SHARE the experience with anyone. I think I would get VERY lonely, regardless of all the people I would meet. I'm still debating. Is it smart to have my first hitchhike exp in the winter in USA?

  • depends where you are in the country and how far you're going. Down south you shouldn't have any problems, or if you're just going a short distance up north. I'll be hitching up to wyoming for thanksgiving and then to nyc from there for xmas with a chunk of random stops in between, just be prepared with a warm sleeping bag and jacket, hitch the country!

  • @SpiderMan1307 The money? thats the point of hitchhiking; free travel!

  • @SpiderMan1307 no!!!!!! man email me at lifetester420@yahoo.com

  • great vid man, informative and much better than reading about it. you a digihitcher?

  • i use a lot of sites like digihitch, trip hopping, and wikihitch. mostly you just get out there and do it and start to learn what works best for you. I just got back from a 2 week hitch bender from CT/NY/Mass down and around to new orleans with over 50 total rides, i love it!

  • im leaving in a week and a half from toronto,

    really good advice

    thanks,

    peace man

  • Do you think its a good idea for two female college students to go hitchhiking? We plan on bringing mace...

  • let me think... yes! you'll get rides so easily (depending on where you are). I still think thee best way to hitchhike, considering safety and quickness of rides, is one guy, one girl. But two girls, you'll get rides no problem. And as far as being safe, that's not a big deal these days, you'll be fine, and with two of you there's nothing to worry about.

  • I'd say go for it. Sure, it'll get hot, but if you're just hitching through you won't be out in the sun for that long. Bring sun screen for sure. I'm never sure about hats... they're good for keeping the sun out of your face for sure, but I think people are more likely to pick you up if they can see your face.
